  1. no, that is not true. During that time you could get wake or ski hull.
  2. Yes, double boots do take getting used to. I did it and I will not go back. Double Vapors are a great and easy setup. I have them and love them. Like Chef said, don't overtighten the top bungee. That is tempting and not hard to do, but negatively impacts release characteristics.
  3. I didn't want to hijack the other thread about a wall of gear, so I started a new one. I'm looking for ideas regarding how to display old ski gear at the lake house. Looking for ideas for something simple, but decent looking, but also still reasonably priced. I'm handy, so I'm imagining building something myself. Just looking for ideas and examples of what others have done. BTW, this would be skis. Some with bindings, some without.
  4. Size and straight/bent is totally personal preference. But Brenda's merchandise is top notch. Get the crossbar.
  5. I have an orange Strada (I think that means it is a 2013) arriving later this week. What are the fin and binding numbers for a 69.5 inch?
  6. I have herniations of L4-L5 and L5-S1. I have been incredibly lucky to have great PT and I religiously stretch my back in the morning and before strenuous activities. No surgeries. Only cortizone injections 10+ years ago. My back is better now than 15 years ago. It does limit me to one set in the morning and one in the evening (on weekends). If I try two sets in a session, my back is very unhappy and lets me know. I have never used a PowerVest, but did try support belt type things a long time ago. I believe they have minimal impact on the strain (don't really protect that much). Much more protection done with stretching, ab work, and doing right things while skiing (most importantly, not doing wrong things). I also believe that there can be different answers for different people. You have to do what works for you. The best advice ever (from the surgeon who helped me avoid surgery) : Stop when your back tells you. If you don't listen and push too hard, it'll take you down.
  7. Awesome boat. If I had $9K, that'd be on its way to my driveway. :)
  8. ...and if you don't maintain it.......you may have a reason to buy a new one....... >:) >:)

The best advice given on this thread was : do not buy a boat without skiing behind it first. Try a few and buy the one you like. Lots of kool aid consumed here, no matter which boat maker you talk about. The only thing that matters is that the guy paying for the boat likes it. :)
  10. My daughter's vest had a couple of issue too. I sent it back during the off season and they fixed it right up. No further problems. Give them a chance and they'll make it right.
  11. Try Vapor/Strada bindings size 13/14. They're the best bindings I have found. My feet are similar to yours and I felt the same way about the Vector when I tried it.
  12. I'm totally back after ACL/MCL reconstruction. Several years ago, there was a guy at INT Nationals who was in his 50s or 60s who had both knees replaced and he was a wakeboarder doing inverts. A guy in my ski club had partial knee replacement last fall and never missed a single set. He was ready to go 100% this spring.
  13. Hey, guys, especially Joel, I just wanted to celebrate getting in the 28off club and encourage others in the midst of the same struggle. Joel posted at the beginning of the year that he was going to try to learn 28 at 28 since 22 didn't seem to be helping him get 28. I had to do the same thing since I couldn't stop myself from repeating the same mistakes at 22 that I was making at 15. I have a good pulling position (mostly), so I could run 15 and 22 with this bad habit. 28 would not let me do it. It has taken a while, but I have run a couple of 28s without doing any kamikaze diving at/around the buoys. So, the purpose of this post is to tell the others taking the unusual road to keep the faith and it can happen. Good luck, guys.
  14. Hey, guys. My daughter will be likely working an internship in DC this summer for 8 weeks. Anyone have info regarding possible people/clubs where she could get some ski time in while she's there if she takes her equipment with her?
  15. @jhughes - to agree with what Waternut just said - the turn in should feel more like the smooth, progressive cut instead of a slam in and huge tug of war.
  16. @jhughes Hey, brother. I'm in the same spot except I have taken the route you suggested and that many will take issue with. I absolutely hated -22 and never run it. I also do not like to slow the boat down because my ski reacts so differently. This issue is probably worse for me than most because I'm too big for my ski, but they don't make skis for me - 6'5, 245lbs. Look at the sizing for skis and everything is in 20lb increments til you hit the biggest ski, then it says 190+. Ha. Anyway, I totally feel your pain, but take heart. I have run -28 once and am solidly knocking on the door for consistent solid runs. -15 and -22 don't discourage pulling after the second wake. In fact, typical skiers at that length don't have the technique yet to keep from pulling until they're nearly to the buoy line. At -28, you finally get the swing from the boat to throw you out there and pulling too long has disastrous consequences. Here's what I did (following coaching from a -35 skier - we call it freeskiing in the course) : turn 20 ft in front of the gate and then try to turn 20 ft in front of every ball. At first you'll lose time and be at the balls by the time you hit 4 ball. Just keep skiing it. Doing this removes the chance of hitting the ball and getting hurt and also teaches you to keep your head up and look down the buoy line to verify you have achieved proper width. Once you can stay in front all the way through, you have to move on to the harder part. This agrees with advice above. Once I started actually going through the gates and going around 1, it highlighted that my pullout was too narrow and I was pulling too hard/long through the gate. That generated a pull into 1 ball that was narrow and with a feeling of too much speed. I'm just getting that under control now. One other thing that has helped is that I like to occasionally take a couple of passes (and even a little freeski time) at -35. That will really teach you to not pull beyond the second wake!! Enjoy. And thanks for all of the time/effort on fifteenoff.com. I loved that site. Bill p.s. A few times I have been persuaded to ski -22 and ran it about 40% of the time. It is nothing like -28. It feels almost identical to -15 to me.
  17. I only hit the bar when I'm swatting at the handle. Doesn't happen at all when I keep my hand close to my hip and ski the handle back to my hand. Hmmmm. :)
  18. Hey, oldjeep, that's my actual handle. I love Brenda's products! She calls that head guard, not arm guard, since an arm could still get in there.
  19. Congrats!! Just keep it fun for her and she'll stay with it.
  20. I guess this is another lesson in different strokes for different folks. I guess there is no single method that works for everyone. Just curious, are you a lighter guy? I'm bigger - 6'5, 245lbs.
  21. Hey, I was at the clinic years ago in Michigan with you when we brought in Greg Sherer. Sorry to hear about your issues. I found this link that may be of help : http://scdlifestyle.com/2012/08/13-causes-of-ibs-d-most-doctors-never-test-for-but-should/ Best of luck to you. I hope you're back on the water soon.
