  1. I'm planning on doing the Star Gazer Upgrade, Z Box and Multi-Line Display as part of the next stage.
  2. I really liked the way the GT-40 drove.... I felt the Excal was going to be a ton of extra work for not enough gain. That was really the only reasoning.
  3. @DW - The first 2 were just way too lumpy. Think Eliminator Picklefork...it was awful. I believe he just sent my cam over to Comp Cams and had them make me a new one, mine had some wear apparently. So I believe it's stock, but with a fresh grind. I will double check for you
  4. I was literally in this boat 3 weeks ago..I picked my boat up dirt (DIRT!) cheap... I bought it with the intention on rebuilding it... I just loved the TSC1 hull. ... I have a 1999 Nautique with the GT-40 with around 1700 hours.... Interior was getting replaced, exterior was getting updated, so I was in a position to do a few things with the motor. Option 1 was to swap with the Excalibur, Option 2 was to rebuild the GT-40... I did some serious searching on the differences between the 2.... I had test driven the Excal, loved the upgrades that I could do to that engine... but loved the low end on the GT-40. I called my engine guy and started chatting with him about the situation. He has built some beautiful engines for me before.... From stock to wild... His opinion was to rebuild the GT-40 with a bit more "punch" to it. I pulled the trigger. We went through 3 cams before I was happy with the "lump," then had the whole thing ported and polished. I'm taking the boat out this coming weekend... first time in the water since the overhaul. Gotta take it out of state as it's still snowing here. My advice, drive the Excal... then think long and hard about what you want to accomplish from the boat and how much you want to spend.
  5. I should probably mention... my engine is literally just getting put back in the boat tomorrow. It's been out for the last week getting rebuilt. When I pulled it, the numbers were 152-155-158-149-152-155-148-156... So, the numbers looked good in my eyes.... especially with almost 1800 hours. I pulled it because I'm having new interior put in, I'm changing the exterior, and I had the means to have it done at the same time... I'll have photos up of the interior and exterior if anyone wants to see them
  6. I look for consistency rather than the actual numbers. It's been pretty well accepted that gauges are not real accurate. My Snap On reads 14-15lbs higher than a Matco of similar design.
  7. Wow, good info here. I'm only looking to leave utah due to work. Park city is awesome, I love it here... However, work wise there is no room for growth. Dallas is a big winner for the family, not to mention we can jump in the bonanza and get to Durango co in a few hours. I cannot and will not move back to California. The taxes there alone are downright insane, and the state itself is way in the hole. I own property in SoCal, it's a great place to visit... But I will never live there again.
  8. @Ed_Obermeier‌ - Thanks, the wife bought me the P5 last season for a wedding gift. I have a slight guitar addiction.. those are the 2 that get played the most which is why they are on the ground... we were jamming just before this photo was taken. I try to keep my plate as full as possible when I'm not at work, helps slow my mind down.
  9. @Horton‌ - that is a GREAT post. I printed it, highlighted it, and I'm laminating it to put in the boat. I've also determined it's time for a new ski, or a new fin
  10. @Sherwood‌ - I'd like to get to know this guy! @Wayne‌ - It's last years CoX... It's not the SL. here's the photo http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9/Removeb4flight/ski_zps6c9b795f.jpg
  11. @Chuck_Dickey‌ - That's what I've been doing so far. I was hoping to get a bit more out of it. @AB‌ - I have thought about taking the wing off, I guess there really is no reason not to.
  12. Hey all, my name is Brett, 31 years old, have been an air traffic controller for the past 10 years (15 to go!) and a commercially rated pilot for the last 12. I live out in Park City Utah, but I was raised in Socal (I really need to change my screen name here) I pretty much grew up on the lake with my family, but never really got into the course until just a few years ago. I was a competitive swimmer growing up, missed the olympics by .02 seconds in the 200m butterfly way back in the day. Imploded my shoulder during that race which kept me out of the water for the next 4 years. I got into biking and running in the time I wasn't allowed to swim or waterski, this later transitioned me into Ironman races when I was able to swim again, I now do 3-4 races a year. When I'm not rounding buoys, I'm in the hills running or biking, or if there's white stuff on the ground I'm out skiing it. I don't post often, but I lurk daily (government computers won't let me log in... I tried.) I'm always looking for people to ski with, both water or snow, if you're in the area look me up!
  13. Yeah Florida is off the table... for now. @Sherwood‌ - Let me know when you're up here, I'll give you the locals tour of the Canyons.
  14. So the wing should be a set it and forget it? I had no idea I could tune the fin too..... Maybe this year I'll show some improvement after all :) I've just been trying to work with what I had....
  15. Snow is starting to melt and the lakes are beginning to thaw. This is the time for me to start thinking about the other ski season. Up to this point I've been very "hands off" on my ski tuning. Meaning, I had someone set my wing, and I've never moved it since. I'm currently riding the HO coefficient X from last year... Love the ski, but am looking to get a bit more out of it. I'm looking for someone to school me on how and why to adjust the wing. What am i trying to achieve? Now that there are no local shops (that I know of) I really feel I need to be taking this on myself. I also need to find a place to demo some new skis... Hopefully I can find a course to run in this year.... Otherwise I'm in public waters with a ez-slalom, bribing the sheriff to turn a blind eye...
