  1. MDB1056 - I didn't see any pics of your old L Animal boots. I need them bad. Mine are very well used. Tried some new T Factors, had a bad experience (completely severed my achilles + broken ankle) on the first set, so now I have an irrational fear of change. Well, maybe a little rational. If still avail pls send info to jeff@jeffswain.com. Thx
  2. I'm interested in buying your old L Animal bindings, if you're willing to sell. Are they the older style with the large handle on the rear part? Shooter
  3. I just moved to Sarasota, and am interested in a club and place to ski. But I am spoiled -- I used to ski with Keith at Lake 38!
  4. I was trying out some new T Factor bindings this weekend and took a bad fall at 28'. Came in late to 4 ball (my good turn), turned it hard, ski stuck, rear foot came out but front stayed in and I pitched forward hard. Broken ankle and torn achilles tendon. Ugh! Surgery on Thurs. Dr. says he can fix everything, but rehab will be many months. I'm really depressed. Any advice? I'm 62, could run 32' on a good day, but now wondering if I'll ever turn buoys again.
  5. Yes, we were very lucky on the weather, for a December tournament in North FL. For the cross-lake tug-of-war I bought a 200' mountain climbing rope; 8000# test I figured would be enough even for a bunch of skiers with strong pulling positions. Contest rules allowed ski gloves and one 5' handle section per team. Keith & Karen are awesome hosts; we also had a chili cook-off afterwards at the "7th Bouy" party house by the lake.

  7. I think I have you all beat. This was the day I did my first deepwater start on a slalom, ca 1969. Cypress Gardens Lil' Monster! It was in Sarasota Bay, behind Dad's Wellcraft. No full pass at shortline, but boy I was proud!
  8. Thanks for the ideas so far and looking forward to more. For a boat length restriction, a number of homeowners have 24' pontoon boats, which obviously aren't a wake problem. And then there are the "deck boats", in between a ski boat and pontoon. A 24' model is also popular on our lake, mostly used for slow speed sightseeing but occasionally to pull grandkids skiing/tubing/wakeboarding. So I don't think I could suggest a 20' limit. And what if the 2018 Ski Nautiques end up being 21'???
  9. We just bought a home on a beautiful private lake in Western NC. The shoreline is mostly private homes with stone seawalls, and generations have enjoyed skiing, tubing, etc. If it only had a slalom course in a protected cove it would be perfect! I am asking for suggestions on lake rules that our homeowner's assoc could adopt. At issue is the new generation of large wakeboard boats that throw huge wakes. When the original lake rules were written many years ago a "ski boat" looked like my 20' Nautique. Now a few 23' + wakeboard boats, complete with ballast tanks, have come to the lake and they are creating problems for both homeowners (damage to moored boats, seawall damage, etc) and other boaters & skiers on the lake. But it would be hard to tell a neighbor that hey you're not allowed to put your $100k boat in the lake. And residents have always been free to ski, tube, board, swim etc etc as they choose. I don't want to be a killjoy but something has to be done. If anyone has experience with this, and better yet a copy of lake rules we could look at, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff
  10. All of us are still in shock over losing our greatest champion. A few years ago our club hosted Andy for a day of coaching, and it was a wonderful experience. He was so nice and helpful to everyone, regardless of skiing ability. Especially glad now to have hung out with him on the lake. Here is a 5 min video I made back then ("Our Excellent Day With Andy"):https://vimeo.com/12097861
  11. Grand Dad does pretty well behind his 2006 too:
  12. RW- how fast can your rig fly? 34mph?
  13. One more thing I liked about the Ghost is that it has a standard 1/4" mount built-in, where I believe the Hero has it's own proprietary mounting systems you have to buy separately. I am also interested in costs of 'copters. You can get a RC 'copter cheap, but the ones I have seen would not have the key abilities we skiers will need for great shots (ability to handle some wind, speed up to 36mph (carring camera payload up to 1/2 lb), range of RC control up to 2000' to pilot from one end of the course if desired).
  14. According to my research on-line (not verified yet...) the "base" Ghost camera is waterproof down to 10' (my friend's ski lake is 7' deep) and includes a 2" LCD screen; the GoPro needs additional add-ons for those features. The Ghost lens can rotate, for flexibility when mounting (yet still keep the horizon horizontal). And I think the Ghost remote (on/off from a waterproof wrist strap) will be good for a skier to wear and control the camera.
