  1. Jim, Send me contact info and I can try to help with a pull or alert the team via our email list. Thanks, Ben
  2. Previous owner on my '97 did the same, ground the wrong side. I ended up grinding the left side and filling in the R side with an epoxy. Boat tracks great.
  3. @adamhcaldwell "When you make a custom orthotic is it to fill the volume under the arch? Or just control how far the arch is collapsing?" Not that simple. You have to look at the quality/quantity and relationship of the rearfoot/midfoot/forefoot. @BraceMaker's image of the main ankle joints are spot on- lots of variability for angles/axes and compensations from one area to the next. The rearfoot needs to be addressed first as it is the area that has first contact. There is a subtle lateral motion in the heel that allows our foot to pronate and create appropriate tibial rotation and load up to the hip. A 2 degree adjustment there could have a profound effect upon the foot as a whole and may give you the control you need without needing as much of an arch. Yes, the fill of the arch is there to "catch" the foot and ensure stability/dispersion of forces. A midfoot or arch support is dependent on the natural alignment and control of the foot itself. It is quite possible that when you restricted your midfoot/forefoot and required your ankle to complete more of the 3D movement. A lower profile device or with a more intrinsic build would be best to lessen volume. I ski in San Diego, though make it back to Massachusetts w @Pat M during the summer at least once a year. I'm interested in seeing if an orthotic will improve my skiing this year, I have used the Reflex/R-style for years.
  4. Really interesting forum and an area I am interested in as an orthopedic PT, especially as i create custom orthotics in my clinic. Much of the discussion here though is based upon the shell and or release and not as much on the interface of the foot. Who out there has used or tried an over the counter orthotic or custom footbed? Thoughts? An improved ski/foot interface should have a profound impact on control. For now we rely upon proprioceptive (sense of position) mostly from the liner or binding rigidity and contact to our lower leg. This should be improved. Better 3D foot control and adjustment for loose/flexible or rigid feet, various arches should allow the ankle to flex more, thus giving the COM the best option to move forward.
  5. Midweek regionals/midweek nationals is a tough commitment for time and a lengthy travel distance even though I was in the same region. I believe they should develop more regions to allow for greater participation. (weekend tourney>full week)
  6. I'm usually out twice a week in the AM. Any ballers are welcome to contact me for future rides.
  7. Robin and I will be there. Skied there Fri/Sat and the water was excellent!
  8. My wife and I had suffered the same misfortune mid-summer last year. We had both of our skis in one sportube and Southwest did a great job driving something over it. Southwest did stand up for the damage and paid us decent value for the used skis. She refuses to fly with her ski now, I still enjoy traveling and skiing too much to leave it at home. My advice is always to check out your ski for damage prior to leaving the airport. Much easier to process and file a claim.
  9. I am part of the team that maintains the Mission Bay site. Doug is correct in the pulling permit process, although 4 permits are allowed to ski. That time of year it will be quiet and water on the cool side. If I am in town over the holidays I will help you with a pull. Mornings are usually the best, although if the winds are right, afternoon skiing that time of year can be excellent. Send me a message and I'll get you my cell #. Here is our most recent team website as well. www.sdwaterskiclub.com/
