  1. The first time I ever made a pass in a slalom course was with Mike coaching. He did a clinic for our club on the Delta. I had most of the concepts wrong and he straightened me out. Great guy.
  2. Has anyone tried skiing while trying to heal from PF? I have been nursing mine all season but really want to ski soon. Seems like since the front foot stays locked down flat in the binding, it may not make the condition worse because stretching the arch (i.e. walking up hills) is what irritates mine. I use Radar Vapor boots and was planning to use my custom orthotics in those to support the arch. This is a common foot injury so I thought someone may have dealt with it. I did NOT injury mine skiing. I did it hiking/walking on steep hills a lot during the winter. Thanks
  3. I had the same thought as you and slowed the boat down 1 mph and have been working on this technique all summer. It works. My thinking is that 33 is fast enough for the ski to perform as designed but it does allow the skier more time to get it right. I am skiing much more consistent than ever and running some 35s. I will soon speed the boat up in small increments using ZO.
  4. Ironically SlalomSteve beat me to this post. I have been wanting to ask the Adams this question for a couple weeks. Since spring, I have been trying this technique and I am skiing better than ever- from both a PB and consistency perspective. I use A1 setting but I am starting to think that C3 may be better for this style (i.e earlier, more aggressive hit). Adam Cord, what setting do you use?
  5. This past summer I developed fast-growing cysts on the palm of one hand along the tendons of my middle and ring fingers. They are under the skin and not callouses. My doctor (who is really young and did not appear confident) diagnosed it to be Dupuytren's Disease and said my fingers would slowly bend/contract over time but in the meantime he said "nothing to worry about" !! He said it had nothing to do with water skiing and was only caused by genetics. I am going to get a second opinion from a hand clinic but I want to give the next doctor all of the info I can find. Thus, I decided to reach out to you skiers to see if anyone else has had a similar occurrence. I read online that some gymnasts and tennis players develop cysts on the finger tendons due to overuse. Those cysts have to be removed surgically. Seems like skiing may do the same to the tendons. I have been skiing for 25 years and until the past past few years I skied incorrectly and took a lot of slack hits from the boat over the years. I can't help but think that is related. Thanks for any info you can provide.
  6. I would think most people on this site have never skied behind a Moomba. I have owned a 2005 Outback since it was new and have 1200 hours on it and never a problem. Paid a little more than half of the cost for the big name boats. Same engine and transmission as Mastercraft and Malibu (at least in 2005). The wakes are as good as any other. I ski at various lakes and tournaments and have skied behind all of the big name brands: Centurion Carbon Pro, Mastercraft, Nautique, Malibu. I don't feel the wakes on any of those is any better than the Moomba. Our club boat (Nautique) broke down two years ago so I took my Moomba to the lake and all of the skiers loved it. They were surprised. NOTE: Someone above mentioned that the tracking is a little looser compared to other boats. I noticed that on mine as well but there is a thread on BOS that shows how to file one side of the rudder to keep the steering wheel tight. I did that and now it steers/tracks great.
  7. @Rico226 thanks for the tip. That adjustment made quite a bit of difference. @Andre I have seen lots of pictures on line of skiers wearing double reflex and I saw Terry Winter using them at last years California Pro Am. I will find out tomorrow if I like them. Thanks for everyone's comments.
  8. I just got reflex double boots with white cuffs (always been a double boot skier and didn't want to try R style yet). I have not skied on them yet but it feels like the flexion strap on the rear boot will not give me the flexibility I need to be over the front of the ski. Seems like I should remove it from the rear boot so I can move my rear chin more. Thoughts? Thanks
  9. A friend set me up with PS5 bindings and they have 4 strips of 400 dual lock on the ski and 4 strips of 400 on the plate. The bindings feel great skiing but I am a little concerned they may not release in a bad fall. I am 5' - 10" tall and 180 pounds and ski into 35 off at 34 mph. Does the amount and type of dual lock I am using sound OK? What do similar sized skiers with similar ability use? Note that I tried PS5's a few years ago and abandoned them due to pre-release issues and that is why my friend used the 400 dual lock. He said that is what is most everyone uses these days. However, I did note that Goode's website says if you use 400 the ski warranty is void because it may not release properly. Thanks.
  10. ShaneH, Thanks for the update. I am really interested to see how you adjust to them and how they release (not to wish a crash upon you). I have several more weeks before I can ski again due to the foot injury so I'll be checking this site before I buy anything. Also, Brent thanks for the tip on the FM Quattro's. I have been researching them and have not read any negative comments. They do seem safer than others.
  11. I recently tore ligamnets in my foot releasing from a Wiley's binding so I am going to try a hardshell system when I can ski again. My doctor (who does water ski) said he thought keeping my foot in the binding during release was the safest way to go for me in the future to prevent re-injuring my foot. 8 or 9 years ago I tried Powershells and did not like them. Seemed too stiff for me so I swithced to the rubber Wiley's. The Exo Forms have attracted my interest because it sounds like they are less stiff than the Exo pro or Powershells. However, I have concerns because I read that that the original 2010 Exo's had durability, safety, and performace issues. I also have not noticed the skiers on the HO website actually competing in Exo's. Have all of the issues been resolved for the 2012 Exo's? Are the Exo Forms less stiff than Powershells? Any ideas on a safe binding that is right for ability level (I usually ski 28' off at 34 mph and make 32' off a few times a year)? At this point in life I am more concerned with safety than improving my buoy count. Thanks.
