  1. Thanks all! @wtrskior - I have been going to mcclintocks. @gt2003 if you asked me three weeks ago when I thought I would complete a full pass, I would have said next year maybe, so stick with it! Something clicked in the last 2 weeks for my offside which has been a real struggle for me to get comfortable with. I was constantly on the back of the ski in the turn and bent through the pull. The way it was explained to me was to think about getting my hips around the turn and up to handle and fight to keep that position through the wakes. Maybe it was the visual as it was being explained to me or the simplicity of only concentrating on that one thought while skiing. Either way, my offside turns and pulls became extremely more consistent over the past two weeks and culminated with completing the pass today. When asked how it felt after the pass, my response was "easy". Not a word I thought I'd ever use to describe running the course! Still lots of work to do on form though. It amazing me how slow yet how quick things can happen in this sport. I also believe that skiing at 28 mph behind a CC200 has helped opposed to my older MC. There is no comparison between the wakes of the two boats at the speed.
  2. I've been a lurker on BOS for some time. Today I can officially call myself a Baller as I finally ran the course (15 off/ 28 mph)!! I took up skiing 3.5 years ago (only skied a handful of times on 2 skis prior in my life) with the goal of completing a full pass within the first 5 years. The last two years I have started taking lessons over the summer (more so this year) and in the last two weeks everything started to come together. Unfortunately no video today but there was a lot of celebration by myself and my instructor. Let the addiction begin!!
  3. I was able to get up to the boarding school this week for a couple of lessons with @brooks while on vacation near Orlando. As a new skier (1.5 yrs on a ski) who has never run more than 2 buoys, I was looking to get some coaching on fundamentals with the long term goal of getting into the course. I set up lessons with Brooks over email a few weeks prior after seeing this post here, he was very responsive and made things very easy. I met Brooks on Monday at the boarding school along with Travis Moye, who was my driver for that day (Brooks drove plus coached the second day). Their site is beautiful, with the two ski lakes and tree protection, we had glass or near glass conditions both days I skied even though the weather was not optimal. Brooks is a great coach, I got some really good information from him and even though I had been off my ski since October, my skiing definitely improved over just two lessons. I skied at 28 mph for both lessons behind the beautiful '14 Prostar. I still can't get over how nice the wake is behind this boat, it was barely noticeable and very soft. This really helped me focus on what Brooks was trying to teach me as I never once thought about hitting the wake - a big change from what I am used to at 28 mph behind the boats we ski at home. What else can I say - Great location, great boat, great coach - if you are in the Orlando area I highly recommend a visit. Needless to say, I will be going back.
  4. Hey all, looking for some feedback on my skiing. Unfortunately we don't have the course in yet so this is just a bunch of free skiing. Some information for perspective, I just started skiing last July and I am a weekend warrior as I can only get out at the cottage. Our time on the water is only early May to Mid-October so not a lot of time to learn. I took some pretty hard spills last year, particularly on my offside so this year I am starting with some real basic exercises. First few times out was just pull-out/lean drills. I have now started to incorporate some onside pulls through the wake. Things I notice from watching myself: I'm not really getting the ski on edge through the wakes and letting up at wakes, handle is high although seem to keep my arms fairly straight. Looks like my weight is too far back which is something I've been trying to focus on fixing by consciously shifting weight to front leg however, that seems to go out the window when I turn in for crossing. Other information: 67" Coeff X, 26 mph. Sorry for the drawn out video (and post), I'm still learning the ropes on video editing so any tips/tricks/software(windows) is also much appreciated. Oh, and enjoy the nice OTF at the end - I was fine.
  5. @Than_Bogan, thank you so much for this article, I have been reading it and practicing ever since you posted. I finally got into the course this weekend to test my limited skills (just started skiing this summer) and feel that following your advice truly helped. First day in the course, got the ski around 2 ball at 15 off (26 mph), I was so exhausted by that point I just let go of the rope to celebrate. Second day in the course, not only did I get around 2 ball but was able to hook back up for the pull only to find myself late for 3 (got a little too excited about making 2 ball!). The biggest difference between day one and two was when I got 2 ball on the second day I was actually early! The pull from 1 ball to 2 ball on that run felt so effortless and I believe that was the best leverage position I have ever been in on my offside (probably nowhere near perfect though!). Now that I have had a taste of the course I am completely hooked. If I can keep picking up a ball per week I may actually run a full pass before our short season ends.
  6. Hey Ballers! Long time lurker here. Just took up the sport in May at the age of 31. My goal is to get into the course (have one on our lake) and start cutting line but I am trying to be patient and develop good skiing technique first. I have gained a ton of information off this site which I think has really helped me to learn the sport, although I realize I still have a lot to learn. I am currently working on pull out drills to get the feeling of being in a good leverage position. The hardest part was learning this on my offside (RFF) but when I final felt what it was like to be stacked, how much less effort it required and the quickness of the ski during the pull out - I was so hooked. I am absolutely loving learning how to slalom and feel like every time I am on the water I am progressing. I have lots of people around me who are willing to give advice but I plan to visit a ski school this off-season in Florida to get some serious training to help me get into the course. Thanks @Horton for such a fantastic site where even future ballers feel like they can come to get advice.
  7. @MattP I believe you have described exactly what I am doing. I took the looking across the wake as looking 90 degrees to it, which is likely closing my shoulders. I plan to try following the tip of the ski this weekend and see where that gets me. Thanks for all the suggestions!
  8. Hi all, long time lurker first time poster. I have just taken up the sport this spring and although I feel I have made great strides I am trying to keep from developing bad habits as I learn that would need to be corrected later on. My long term goal is to be chasing buoys but I realize I have a long way to go. Right now I am working on crossing the wake (28 mph) and starting to establish some rhythm. I am currently a couple feet outside the whitewash however, I find when I cross from left to right (I am right foot forward), I sometimes land on the lip of the 2nd wake and my form breaks. I also seem to generate a lot more speed in this direction and it feels a bit out of control. There are many around me who are more than willing to give me advice (all with the greatest of intentions) but I worry that what they are saying I should do is a bit out dated. My biggest concern at the moment is where I should be looking while I cross the wakes. The person I ski with suggested that I should be looking across the wakes at the horizon to help keep my head up. Seems like good advice but I think it may be making me close my shoulders to the boat which, based on my limited understanding, is not an ideal position and may be the reason why I feel a bit out of control crossing from left to right. Where should I be focusing while I cross wake?
