  1. A little off topic, but I bought a 66" Strada this summer too (great ski, got me 12 balls easy and probably more). I only weigh around 110 lbs, but I've had no problems with the ski. I ski at 36 and bought the ski with the intention to grow into it, but I'm wondering if I overcompensated. Is the weight difference so much that a 65" would *dramatically* help (don't want to go through all the SIA hassle if it isn't that big of a deal)?
  2. I would def try the wing @ 8. Rossi suggests 9 for all ski lengths (except 63 and 69). As for the bindings, it depends on what brand they are. Mine are Radar bindings (Vector + RTP) and I run them in middle holes (as Rossi suggests), something like 28 and 3/4". If you have Radars it is measured to the stitching line at the bottom of the boot. Not sure about other brands, but I know the method of measurement is slightly different.
  3. I didn't really notice it when I first went out, but after a while I realized I was getting less slack. It slows the ski down going into the turn more, so you don't go flying in as much and that leads to less slack, huge for me @ 28.
  4. Well something was right about them, my fin was nearly perfect but I did adjust the wing from 8 to 9, the next morning I skied 28 for the first time ever... Then I skied it again.
  5. Oh, and yes I do have a caliper and not a micrometer and it is labor day, not memorial day.
  6. Alright, all my measurements were within .004 of Chris's. Is this close enough? Considering my ability level, in what increments should I adjust? .005?
  7. This weekend I'll be down at the lake through memorial day, skiing 3-5 sets a day, and I thought it would be a good time to finally fine-tune my fin settings a little. Trouble is, I have never touched them before. Ever. I recently purchased a micrometer and wing angle-adjustment templates, but I don't have a clue where to start. I'm on a 2011 Strada 66, skiing into 28/32 off @ 36 mph. Is there a set of numbers I could start from? Are the factory settings good enough? Actually, they might not be factory as I bought the ski slightly used. Like I said, no idea what I'm doing here. Also, my Dad is on a 67 or 67.5 Monza (don't know which) from 2007/2008 and he's looking for some numbers, too. He skis into 32 @ 34 mph. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Who knows, maybe I shouldn't mess with it at all, I just thought it would be a good opportunity. Thanks.
  8. I was in a similar position earlier this summer -- just making the climb from 34 to 36. For me, once I was used to 34 (I could ski it consistantly @ 15 and 22) 36 didn't seem that fast, your timing just had to be that much better to stay early. It took me a couple of months to fix my timing issues at 36, but with so much rope at 15 off timing was my only problem. I have some friends who like to say "22 is the same pass as 15." I disagree, but it really isn't that much harder. You lose a little width, but it didn't take me very long to get the 22 pass (skied it for the first time in a tournament last weekend). To help you out at 22, my suggestion would be to ski 15 off as wide as possible in your warm up/practice passes. Once you get up to 36 mph, take 2 or 3 passes and ski WIDE -- at 15 you can get 10-15 feet wide and backside the ball. This helps you get used to the time of leverage and width needed to ski 22, as well has your timing. And it's a TON of fun. Good luck! Ben
  9. I have a vector front/rtp set up. I have skied on approaches and animals before, both are nice bindings but I would say go for the vectors as well. They are extremely comfortable, relatively safe (though not as safe as the Wiley's), and if you lace 'em up tight the perform just as well as any boot I've been on. However, if you have the cash, go for the Stradas, I haven't heard a bad thing about them yet.
  10. It is a 196, by the way, just realized that mistake in the original post.
  11. The hours are very, very low -- either 64 or 164 (the gauges are broken... Something we'd have to fix.) Besides the gauges though, the boat is like new, I've seen it. However, there are 196s on SIA for 17 with speed control, bimini, etc... They just have more hours.
  12. My Dad and I are looking to buy a new ski boat. However, we're about 25k short of what we need for a SN 200. Anyone have suggestions as to older boats with good wakes/prices? At the moment, we are looking at a 2001 SN 190. It is pristine-- clean, low hours, and no dings or nicks. It does not have a shower, heater, speed control of any kind, or a bimini top, all things we would need to install our selves. He is asking something around 20k. Is it worth it? Are there better options? Thanks for your help! Ben
  13. Greg- I'd be happy to work! I couldn't get the links to work on the OWSA website to work though for running order/teams... Also, if I got to the lake around 6 or 6 30, could I get a practice set in? The site says practice Thursday evening but I just want to make sure it's not full or anything. Thanks
  14. Chef- How recently did your son up the speed to 34? Two summers ago I was in the exact same spot, trying to go from running easy 30's to 34's, and I had a similar problem. I could run 32 around 60% of the time, but it still felt fast, so when I tried 34 it was very hard. I couldn't get angle, couldn't get early, and had a few nasty crashes. After a couple months of working at it these problems were worked out as I got used to the speed. Once 32 and 34 started to feel normal, I could crank turns and get much more angle. I would suggest a set or two of free-skiing to help with this. If you only ski at a private lake free-skiing is redundant, but my family takes trips to a large public lake every summer, and if you get up early the water is great and you can get over 100 turns in just one set. Note: I've always skied with a wing, no idea what angle it's at though as I don't mess with fin settings.
