  1. @Horton no I’m comparing the regular XTR to the 2017 NXT. They have some blemish skis of both that are avaliable
  2. Hey all, was looking at the Nano One XT & the XTR. Just getting back into skiing & just want to try something new, currently on a 66 first gen Syndicate pro & i ski 36 mph. Anyone skied 36 on the XTR & N1XT & have thoughts?
  3. Yeah, I kicked around the idea of skiing at a private site but i live right in downtown Charlotte so Norman is just a lot closer than the others.
  4. Hey all! Haven’t posted or skied in a while, but recently moved to Charlotte & was wondering if anyone here skis at Lake Norman? I have driven by the slalom course a number of times & planning on getting back into skiing this summer. If anyone here skis or knows someone who skis there any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Hi all, My cousin is is looking to buy a 67 senate graphite preferably a 2019 or 2020. Does anyone have one they are willing to sell? He found a couple on SIA but between no response and the listing being up for a while we think the ski might be sold. Thanks
  6. @BCM @Deanoski good point, I have no idea what version it was. We ended up selling the boat after that and going to a ZO boat.
  7. If you have a short setup don't get Z box. That thing was hell on our short setup, either keep PP or get ZO. If you have a lot of room before the course you will be fine with Z box
  8. My thoughts as someone who is 26 and has tried to get every single one of his friends hooked on skiing and why it has mostly failed. 1- Instant gratification. Its hard to be a good slalom skier. You simply cannot be athletic and be a good skier. As everyone here knows its a technical sport and just being big and fast doesn't help. The best skiers are the ones who spend the most time training. 2- Price. I will go to my grave saying this. Its too damn expensive. If I want to start any other sport the barrier to entry is less than $1000 to start unless you start messing with horses. If I want a friend to start skiing I can point them to SIA, they can use my boat and I won't even charge for gas most of the time. Still a used ski, bindings, vest, handle, gloves will run them damn near if not more than $1000. Even people I skied with in college for 2 years were hesitant to spend the money on their own equipment, understandably so. 3- All of our friends have surf boats. We go with them see something that is super simple (i.e. instant gratification) and you can drink while your doing it. The number of times I've seen or been thrown a beer while surfing.... Cant do that in a slalom course. 4- For people who don't get it, watching a good skier is not as impressive as they realize. I took a friend to the lake this summer. He watched me get a couple at 32 off 36 mph straight up. Nothing amazing but not terrible. We were with some friends the other day and he told me if I gave him 1 summer he would be able to beat that. A short, should we call it a debate, followed. I explained it takes years to be able to run even into 32 off. He didn't believe me, still thinks 1 summer is all he needs. He isn't a skier. I remember listening to the 2008 worlds video cast and Marcus Brown made a point when Rossi was skiing. He said "the better the skier the less impressive it is to watch because they make it look easy" I 100% believe that and sadly the spray can be the coolest part someone sees.
  9. Has anyone flown United with skis? Online it says anything over 62 inches is a $250 check bag fee?? Is this right?
  10. @Orlando76 where have you seen a bubble but for $25K???? That’s the most insane thing I have ever heard
  11. @BraceMaker actually Kentucky law is 16 for consent unless the older party is in a position of authority or trust (which a coach would fall under) in which case it’s raised to 18. What Nate did would be illegal in Kentucky.
  12. @LoopSki In almost EVERY other state a 23 year old having sex with a 17 year old is illegal. I’m 24, if I had a friend who told me they had sex with a 17 year old that would be a massive problem weather they were in Florida or not
  13. From the article- “Smith acknowledged he had sex with a 17 year old when he was 23”.... that’s all I need to read
  14. I did the collegiate ski thing for 2 years. It was a lot of fun but i ended up transferring to another school that didn’t have a team, & for me personally that was the best decision I could have made. Just wasn’t for me, but that said it’s a great way to get involved in a group & have an instant group of friends
  15. @wawaskr we all know exactly what individual & what companies sponsor them.
  16. If you’re strictly a slalom skier I would stay away from the 197...
  17. @Jetsetr what part of the country do you live in? Even in Kentucky a decent country club will run you at least $3,000-$4,000 a year plus initiation & quarterly minimums... And we have courses with $60k initiation & $3k a month after that... I have as much if not more in clubs than I do my syndicate pro. You sound like you have a course that offers a great deal, but most courses don’t offer any kinds of memberships for $200 a year
  18. Water skiing should take notes from golf. Both sports have similar barriers to entry- both take a chunk of your day to do, both are expensive, and they have similar target markets. Golf is huge where water skiing is not, & competitive golf will never disappear the way it seems tournament water skiing is
  19. Zane Nicholason told me that you should be pulling until the middle of 2nd whitewash through 38
  20. Inflation is the baseline to measure all price increases... just because your price increase is absolutely ludicrous, doesn’t mean it is measured against another item.
  21. The fact that a few people defend the price of new boats is comical. Also, I work for the worlds largest tech distributor, we sell the screens & various connectors that go into these boats. The fact that these screens are thousands to replace are pure robbery
  22. @skierjp $1,000 is a looong way off of $100,000 & most of the people who buy those $200K wake boats are idiots who finance them for 30 years
  23. @ozski I've never heard one person say it takes me too long to get a practice set so I'm quitting skiing. Also, im not sure where you are located, but the last few years the main issue in skiing is DEFINITELY not too much participation
  24. This will be the death of skiing. & it is not as simple as "just buy used" the high new prices are keeping used prices high. Ive noticed a lot of people on this thread have said things to the effect of "you can get a used ZO boat for sub $35K!" as if thats a good deal. Most people cannot afford a $35K car let alone a $35K boat. Do we need to make the sport accessible to EVERYONE? No, cost is a large barrier to entry in this sport and thats fine. But that barrier is too damn high. Realistically, if you aren't single and have a family and kids, a $100k salary probably isn't enough & I believe that is a problem.
  25. So he got a suspension which means they are reasonably confident something happened... does that mean it gets turned over to the police? If so a 3 month ban from water skiing might be the least of his worries
