  1. Guys, Thanks for all of the insights and sharing. I will pull together our sampling of info along with the methodology this weekend and post it. I agree this is the next step in truly understanding, teaching and coming to terms with the multitude of variables in our sport. Getting this kind of info to the skier can help improve technique and understanding....I'm really glad no one said 1200#.......... Good water to you! Best,

LLF....hard shells....facing drivers side......rear in first..... adjust liner...buckle......Front foot .....adjust liner....buckle......repeat adjustments again.....flak out rope in water behind boat prior to one hopping in. Then on the ends......work rope to center....no matter who's driving.....drives me nuts if the rope hangs off the gunwales.......other then that not much........

  5. We have been talking about some of the "truths" in water skiing lately. One that was most interesting to us was the amount of force loads a skier takes during a pass. We also thought about the amount of force getting up (deep water start) and what might be a "max" load say at a handle pop...... Well, in our small sample of 4 skiers. It was really amazing to see the data. By linking a force load meter between the pylon and and the rope we were able to get readings for all of these scenarios. Any wagers?
  6. We were using a MLB pitching speed gun. Now admittedly, as stated....we are far from scientific. It was just the consistency of the speeds that was so striking. The methodological was to stand at an angle so as the skier was traveling directly at the gun while the "shooter" was standing in the water, in the same location for all skiers and shooting at the time (as best as possible). We were capturing the top speed as the skier was entering the whitewater. You would be able to pickup a couple speeds during each pass. Wake crossings in and around 40mph and in the turn/ball in and around 25mph. When we took the gun to a pro stop. It was very interesting that a 34mph skier did register the highest speed of the day. Not sure what that means other then the formula for speed comes to mind again. Time over distance equals speed.. We sure did have a great time doing it and we all learned something about our own skiing ...double win.
  7. Guys, Has no one pulled out the radar gun and mapped the info? We did this a couple seasons ago. The data is very interesting..... First of all. The top speeds reached by the pros are amazingly lower then the commonly sited speeds. They are also not that different then the average skier. Our tests were far from "scientific" but consistent enough to ensure the results where meaningful. So, anyone guess the top speed of say T Gas? On passes of 32, 35 and 38? We shot speeds off the second wake.......44mph. He was the top speed tested at the event. This is far less then the oft sited 60-70 mph that is kicked about. The truly interesting data was that the guys in our test group that are running 15 off are skiing faster then the guys running 32 off. Our conclusion was in line with the DN study. Time over distance equals speed. Top speeds for 15 offer's averaged 42mph. The rest of use hacks only were reaching average 40mph. We since have moved on to considering that speed at the ball is good! How fast can you be in the turn.......we feel that we are just slowing down too much.

  9. 6 days a week. 2-3 sets a day. (But only get approx 100 days a year) Had a run were i skied 24 sets in 4 days....ya that was a mistake. Could hardly walk for a day. But 2 days off and felt like a rock star after. Skiing more 28s to get really dialed in this year than ever before........its working.

  11. Really like the ML but noticed with the new pair (with the metal "d" rings) has a different fit. Longer web strap and tighter across the palm so the strap after 20 sets or so is already too long and starting to "bunch" up when I come back on the handle. No failures ...........boy that seems like it would take a lot of loading to have it tear off. The Radar fit issue was the same for me. Med (Clinch and ML size) was too small and Lg was too big!?
  12. Horton, If you do have a change in plans. The A List Hotel on Old World 3rd St is a really fun place to stay. Everything in Milwaukee is close to the waterfront. And if you do come out. Bring your stick. Rides are available and just 30 mins from downtown.

  14. One handed gate. Works for me to be free and "move in" with speed. LLF so a heel side turn and have been working on getting the speed up to the first wake.
