  1. Is Terry running 34mph or 36mph when he skis tourneys? How old is Terry these days?
  2. Let me know if you are in NE Houston. We are just East of Conroe and The Woodlands. Kelvin can give you my info. Lhoover
  3. Thanks so much, Jody. I'll be in touch. And thanks to all for your input.
  4. Yes, Jody, your boat, and yes, Kelvin, same setup. Repeat, I'm not saying burn it to the ground. I'm merely comparing it to an 09 MC and a 17 Nautique that are pure butter. I'll go with aupatking and replace the cable.
  5. Greetings, Ballers, a few points and some questions. Some buddies just bought a 2009 SN196, the 6.0 engine, and I'll be darned if it doesn't have a throttle cable rather than DBW. Silly me thought one could not have ZO without DBW. It is immediately noticeable as a bit resistant, a tad stiff, and a long throw from engage to acceleration. It's doable, but certainly not even close to another local boat, a 2009 MCPS 197. It's pure butter. So... would you replace the current throttle cable or live with it? How about converting to DBW? Anyone know the cost? Any magic men who do such conversions in the Houston area? Nice boat, but was expecting so much more after being spoiled by true DBW boats.
  6. Thanks for setting the record straight, folks, and for you Ballers weak in reading capacity, never did I say "we', but "they"! Could not believe what I was hearing but a group looking to step up dismissed 3 used boats specifically because of the engine description being a 6. Thus started my incredulous response of you must be kidding! Are GM and PCM aware of these "problems" and doing nothing? But I see it was the heat, or the lack of rain, or the Air Conditioner fumes that have clouded "their" thinking as there are plenty of satisfied 6 engine owners and no specific gripes. Many thanks, and best to all.
  7. Come on Shelby, you lived here and know how the ungodly, never relenting heat adversely affects everything! Yes, I did complain, and still do, about the gas tank access in Nautiques, though you gave me no credit for saying the MCs and Malibus got my stamp of satisfaction. But I kid thee not on this 6 defamation and warms my heart to hear it just ain't so... in Florida, at least!
  8. Have any of you heard this before? I'm not kidding when I say it is the talk of the boat folks here in Houston. And you know how "they" are! They say don't even entertain the idea of getting a used boat with a 6 in it because of this or that trouble. I've heard oil pressure troubles, oil pump failures, no power, torque is weak in the 34mph to 36mph power band, runs way too hot, etc. Beware! Has anyone else heard these comments or aware of this reputation? How can this be when the 6 seems to be the repower of choice from what I've read here? Are we all crazy down here in drought ridden, hotterenhell S Texas?
  9. Shoot me an email khoover at wt. net We are in NE Houston about 20 minutes from Bush airport.
  10. Good point, Jody. When Dr. Michaels finally got the boot, Dr. Morgan's records were restored (pretty sure it was that sequence). Anyway, for several years Mike held the record for EACH discipline in Men3. Rather stout.
  11. Moksh, where, in the lovely Land of Enchantment, do you waterski? I've been pretty much all over your state and never saw more water than a bathtub. Inquiring minds are interested. And BTW, welcome back to our great sport.
  12. Ditto on a great tourney and another wonderful broadcast. Anyone know the purse and 5 place payout for both men and women?
  13. Bruce, You were holding back! You did not tell us your beautiful daughter was skiing tricks at the Worlds! She looked great, standing up both passes. Did she graduate A&M? What is she doing these days? Congratulations!
  14. We might be a long way from you in N Houston, Tyler, but beats not skiing the course. Email me khoover at wt. net.
  15. OK, Than, I'll bite. And I've read it before, perhaps written by you, but how in the ever loving world does adding width to the course make it easier? Or am I misunderstanding you? Laymans, terms, please.
  16. The GOAT, Freddy Krueger? ...The Pro Men’s Jump Finals concluded the weekend’s events where the crowds watched as Freddy Krueger won his 14th Masters title, tying the great Andy Mapple with the most Masters titles in Tournament history.
  17. I was thinking about starting a thread AFTER The Masters (so as not to jinx her) about why in the ever loving world would the greatest female slalom skier of all time risk it all by jumping competitively? WHY??? Every time Regina straps on her slalom ski in a tournament she is odds-on favorite to not only win, but also possibly break her own world record. Why, then, would she strap on 2 seven foot long boards, approach a 5ft., icy slick incline at nearly 55mph, and expect for everything to just be peachy? WHY??? I get the love of jumping, I really do. But Heaven knows, all of us are ex-jumpers, and for a reason. Jumpers own their own set of crutches, don't you know. And there is a reason that professional athletes in team sports sign contracts that prohibit engaging in any other activity except tv watching. Regina is a former World Champion in tricks, for crying out loud. What about tricks, Regina? You know, a single, 4ft board at 15mph. Good Grief, I'm just sick at my stomach reading this article. Sick. Best to you, Regina, and it has been a wonderful ride. Thanks for the memories as I just can't see her ever winning another slalom tournament. Competitive? Perhaps. I hope I'm wrong.
  18. Jim, not overly familiar with PM so let me know if you got my reply. LH
  19. We are in NE Houston at a very nice site, 120 miles from Nac. Won't have to cross any big city traffic as it's a straight shot on I69. Be in touch if you run out of closer options. khoover at wt.net
  20. A reminder to listen to the multiple podcasts Wade has going at the present. It's a unique format, talking with the families around the country that make skiing the wonderful sport that it is. You will enjoy their history, along with the relevant "Coxie" legend comments and tales. A great way to spend a few minutes and enjoy our sport. https://www.buzzsprout.com/1603045
  21. First. we must offer condolences for being sentenced to work there the next year or so, but my buddy is looking for some activity in that area. Anything going on within a 100 mile radius?
  22. Hall of Fame member Wade Cox is making a big splash by joining the 21st century social media scene with a new website and podcast. Check out the website skiwithwade.com and the new podcast https://www.buzzsprout.com/1603045 Anyone who has ever been skiing with the Arkansas legend enjoys his stories as much as his instruction. You won't be disappointed as he now has a format to share them with everyone. Check it out!
  23. Wonder if SurePath flashed Red or Green on that pass.
  24. If it is cold in Houston (lake temp was 59* yesterday, darned cold for us), then it must be really cold everywhere else, thus spurring more talk and less play. The 3@41 club (we know everything: just ask us!) at our lake was discussing the Rope Tension or strain gauge stat being used at pro tournaments to show the force being exerted on the pylon. This is pretty cool, demonstrating to the world how strong we all are and that this ain't no sissy sport, this high end slalom. Unfortunately, this stat has pretty much zero relevance to a podium finish. Think of other sports that are saturated with stats, both individual and team, that are directly related to being a winner. For instance, the ERA in baseball, the QB rating in football, or GIR in golf. If they are dominating that stat, they are more than likely dominating that sport. Not so with the strain gauge. It's groovy, but irrelevant to top performance. Then what is for slalom? Is there a particular stat that is most telling? Perhaps a Lean gauge, that is, max angle away from the boat? Max speed at the apex of the turn? Max speed at the prop wash? What say ye? Happy Winter skiing to all, and may Spring be just around the corner!
  25. Another good story about Kelvin. Last year, the great Wade Cox was going to give a clinic at our little lake in NE Houston. The night before, it came a gully washer monsoon, I'm talking a frog strangler of a rain, and completely washed out our lake. I called Kelvin that morning and he graciously offered the beautiful Lakes of Katy where he lives, plus use of his boat. Gotta love great ski neighbors. Thanks for what you do for the sport, Kelvin.
