  1. @ski6jones Problems like in illegal immigration, inflation, energy independence, etc.......???
  2. We found out the airlines will only cover damage to a ski if the damage is reported prior to leaving the airport. We always take our skis out of the sportstube in the baggage claim area and inspect for damage. Kind of a PITA but worth the hassle!!
  3. @chaloux ZO on our boat has been updated to single puck
  4. The 98 Nautique that @6balls listed above is our boat. I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have. This boat has been wonderful. We bought it as a promo in 2000. We repowered the boat to have ZO installed. Boat has been used in private ski lakes in Kansas.
  5. That is going to be a long run-off!
  6. @Horton Wouldn't credit card numbers be a concern in a hack as auto renewal of membership is an option at USAWS? I don't consider myself paranoid, concerned about my credit card number being obtained, yes. Paranoid, no. Additional information from USAWS regarding any potential information obtained by hackers would be nice.
  7. If you only wait 3 weeks instead of 6 after giving birth to get back on the water because you had a May baby.
  8. Tie, 6 is 6 in the scorebook. Skier B needs at least 1/4 @41 to win. Skier A is no continuation.
  9. @KcSwerver Bryan, happy to hear that your music career is successful!!! I'm glad you are still finding joy in water skiing!! Tell your Mom we said hello!
  10. @austinhami How about letting your parents bring that boat to Enid and Conroe for us to test drive??
  11. I grew up wally skiing at the lake with my family. Met a guy at a bar, he asked me if I skied and what ski I skied on. I knew the name of my brother's ski so I claimed it. He asked me to come to the lake on Sat. of Memorial Day weekend. He asked another girl on Sunday, then a camp vote on who was invited back on Monday. I guess I won the vote. He started me skiing the course. A year later, he cajoled me into skiing the Pomoma Lake Classic by promising me a new ski with matching wet suit and lift jacket if I made a full pass. 3 women judges (Kelly (Dlugosh) Kohler and 2 others) called me in a full pass even though I only rounded 3 ball. My nickname at the time was 26 longline.
  12. Only judges who are 18 and older who are selected to judge a National Championships event or IWWF World Championships or multi-sport events or Pan Am titled event will need to pass a background screen – all other judges at local and regional events do not need to be background screened. I do not see specific language explaining which judges, or if all judges at Nationals need BGC. Appointed? Assigned? Volunteer onsite judges?
  13. @lpskier that was a gross comment to make towards @Inboardfix. He is the father of two young women and is the last person I would think of being inappropriate. Sarcastic probably but not inappropriate. I thought his question was very appropriate especially given the fact that an easily made unsubstantiated claim against a male could have severe consequences to one's reputation.
  14. @Broussard I completed my SS training months ago, I had started the training a year ago at the request (not mandate) of USA swimming. I am thinking of a ton of skiers that I know who rarely know the rule changes - it took them years to understand zero based scoring, changes in the kids divisions, etc... @klindy Yes, but I got the information from this thread, NOT from USAWS.
  15. I was on the call and I did not learn much more that what I already suspected - fall in line or get lost. The first hour was dedicated to the insurance guys telling us what a great job they did getting us insurance in a difficult market. Did anyone else notice that Nate repeatedly said in the 2nd hour that we (membership) have known about the mandates since March so if any current member fails to complete the SS training are sorry out of luck. New members get a 30 day grace period but current members do not. I did not know about the SS requirement before started this thread. No more showing up at a tournament and renewing membership in the parking lot, online registration will be blocked without the SS box being checked. It is also basically forcing LOCs to switch over to online registration as waivers have to be done online. I was underwhelmed with Nate's knowledge of how tournaments are run - no understanding of how many judges it takes to run a tournament, much less Nationals. The best part of the town hall was watching Lyman yawn over and over again. wander around and then start eating....don't think that he realized that his video was on for the whole meeting!
  16. @lpskier Let me try to be more specific. 1. I object to the background check for all judges because I do not think that it will do anything to protect kids at tournaments. I have been at a tournament where a stranger was seen following around a young girl, we called the police. The BGC would not keep the #1 OM skier from being on a tower despite his questionable at best history with young female skiers. 2. No, I do not want to pay for an unnecessary BGC. I have had multiple for my job, but my job pays for them. They are required in my healthcare job but that job pays me for my work. 3. I do not want to give my SSN or my credit card number to an unknown entity, an unnecessary risk of identity theft. All of the big corporate training classes repeat to never give your SSN to a 3rd party. I want to hear what others think, hard to have a conversation when you try to censor differing opinions by telling @The_MS to shut up. I do think that loosing talented drivers, regardless of age, due to the mandates that have been stipulated by USAWS-WS is just bad for the sport. A bad driver has much more influence on my score than a judge in a tower.
  17. @lpskier Yes to all of the above AND to the heavy handed mandate from "those in authority", all designed to CYA the USAWS organization with minimal real benefits to any members. The worst part of the mandates is the liability being shifted to the LOCs.
  18. All adults who are authorized to interact with minor or amateur athletes at an amateur sports organization facility or at an event sanctioned by an NGB or member of an NGB are obligated under the law to report suspected child abuse, including sexual abuse. I did not see anything in that letter other than an authorized adult is obligated to report suspicious/abusive behavior and the NGB cannot interfere with such reporting. Where did the mandate for SS training and background check come from? If the broadly cast "net" references judges of the minors, I would be happy to volunteer to judge only the adults! I have done my time with the junior divisions including judging at Class C, Regionals and Nationals, driving and volunteering at junior camps, etc.. I would gladly pass the baton to the younger group of parents.
  19. @UCFskier Wasn't the lockdown for "just" 2 weeks, the Covid protocol "just" until the vaccines become available, now until you are "just" fully vaccinated and who knows how many boosters that will take. The issue is the mandates that we are supposed to accept from those in authority that seem to think they are smarter than the rest of us, for the "greater good" regardless of the minimal ROI or the damage that the mandates cause.
  20. Not to mention the number of judges that it takes to run Regionals and Nationals. It always seems to be a huge effort to get the correct number of Regulars and Seniors given the judges schedule has to accommodate skiers conflict and family member conflict of interest if the whole family skis.
  21. @braindamage I have a family of 4 judges, that is an additional $120 for the background check mandate. The governing body of USAWS capitulating to the mandate is what is causing the fight. How do LOCs have enough judges to run a tournament if enough judges decide it is not worth the hassle/extra$$ to maintain their judge's rating?
  22. WOW! I did a cursory reading of the USAWS update but did not click on all of the links. How are they going to complete the background checks for all of the officials. Who is going to police that all are compliant with the background checks? Do background checks that many of us have passed for employment count? I guarantee that my young adult children who are assistant judges will not take the time or spend the $$ to complete a background check. Another reason for them to leave the sport.
  23. @gjohnson Redacted report, thought that would have been obvious.
  24. With the new initiative to inform and teach all USAWSWS members to recognize and help prevent and respond to athlete abuse, I would think that being more transparent with information regarding the situation would be helpful. Whatever caused the action taken by SafeSport could be a teaching moment for us to increase our awareness. Obviously enough of a transgression occurred to land this member on the suspension list. We had a colligate skier from our state on the suspension list and never knew what caused the suspension. Was it at a tournament (at our lake)? Was it at a sanctioned practice? Was it during travel to/from the tournament? Not wanting hearsay, just the facts. Why not make the SafeSport reports public?
