  1. When we look at the main factor for success of the Collegiate Nationals it's not that they have a Division II. What makes it different is what @E_T kinda touched on, it's the team aspect.

The AWSA Nationals could easily add a team element to the current format to try give attendance a boost without drastic changes. A team could consist of 1 M, 1 W, 1 Jr skier and a Regional participant not qualified to ski Nationals as a individual. Teams would be families, ski club members, old friends or new friends. NOPS score totals in each event will determine team placement. You still get your same rides but now they give you more than one chance to win a National title.

Let's use the power of peer pressure to boost attendance. It works in college!

  2. I stuck to my plan at Regionals and came in after my first jump so could get my overall score only to hear that I missed 3rd place by a foot. I took a lot of crap but my back felt great the next day.

Back in 2009 I worked a few months in Houston and Igor pulled me a few times. Didn't get to see him ski until after I left and was very impressed.

  3. NASCAR has the Car of Tomorrow so maybe the answer to an affordable tournament boat is the Hull of Tomorrow? The manufacturers who plan to sell the AWSA approved hull used in tournaments for a set number of years would share in the development of the hull design and split that cost. They would then have the freedom to design the boat however they like from the waterline up and will differentiate on build quality, manufacturing process, materials, and innovative features. Marketing dollars would be reduced by eliminating the "our hull has more records than yours" ads and the pros wouldn't have to hold back on their performances when being pulled behind a non-sponsor boat. Tournaments would only need 1 boat and a backup instead of up to 4. How's this for thinking out of the mold?
  4. @Dirt & @Horton called me out a couple days ago but looks like @Kindly explained the F sanction perfectly and how they can be added to a C tournament. The current framework is flexible so an organizer can do pretty much anything they want to make their event a success. What works in one area might not be ideal for your lake or club so I wouldn't want to be forced into just one way.

We have strong Jr Development & Collegiate programs for the younger skiers so maybe we need some more Sr Development. Yes we need new skiers but an overlooked group are former skiers. Maybe they are at a point in their lives to comeback and all it takes to become an addict again is a taste.

Also a word of caution when organizing a stand-alone Fun tournament. If you do too good of a job your skiers might not want to ski in class C tournaments.
