  1. Well, it does sound like this is a state wide issue. http://www.mwsa.org/slalom-course-rules-and-the-michigan-dnr-changing-its-interpretation-of-provision-6/
  2. Thanks everyone for the info. @MISkier , ironically all of the lake front owners recently got a letter regarding people allowing boats to be illegally moored on the lake. One of our neighbors contacted the township and the state and was told that there was not much that could be done about it. Interesting that there are docks at both ends of the course that are filled with boats. So the DNR would ignored the makeshift marinas while checking out our course that was in non-compliance. I guess in the short-term we will need to get creative in ways for sinking and popping the course. Too bad the DNR is busy worrying about our course and not the guys wake surfing within 10 ft of my dock.
  3. @MISkier - Thanks for the info. We are on Commerce Lake. Read your post and it sounds like exactly what we have. Were you ever able to find a way around the requirement to drop the course every night? Not sure, but it sounds like someone on another lake got busted by the DNR. They pointed out that no one else was dropping their course. This was the DNR's solution to that - increase enforcement.
  4. The lake we live on in SE Michigan has a permit for a course. The permit holder got a call from the DNR the other day telling him that the course needs to be down when not in use. We had been leaving the course up Monday to Saturday morning and then dropping it before noon. Sounds like the permit holder was told the course can only be up if it is actively being used. Anyone else heard of this requirement?
  5. So I am looking at the Helix and trying to understand if there are any changes on the 2015 vs 2014. D3 has 2014 demos for $999 vs new is $1,450. Inclined to the demo vs paying full price for a 2015. Thanks in advance.
  6. @onamission - Issue with Michigan waterways these days is that we may need an icebreaker soon is the weather keeps on going like it is now.
  7. I am looking for suggestions on destinations for a couple of days to week trip. Would like to take the boat with us and be able to find a course to do some skiing. Have spent time in Cumberland in the past so that is one of our options, but am interested in hearing others. We live in SE Michigan so I would like to keep the drive to 8 to 12 hours or less. Thanks in advance.
  8. The last two boats we have tried to make as quite as possible. Ironically, we ended up with the opposite in our prior boat. Never put downturn exhaust on a boat, it actually makes it louder. On our TXI we have the STE, the silent rider mufflers, and the insulated motor box. This makes the boat very quite. If I had to pick between the STE and the mufflers, I would pick the mufflers at least from ease of installing.
  9. @miskier - Thanks for the info on the Lyons Ski Club. Our boat dealer also just recommended them. I will try to contact them. Thanks again
  10. @onamission - I know Steve Michell, but not Michaels. We have gotten to know pretty much everyone that skis on Commerce. There is a lot of time to hang out and chat while you are waiting your turn.
  11. Larry, Thanks for the info. Contacted Dixboro and right now they do not have any openings. Will most likely go out and check the place out. Can always get on a waiting list. Thanks again.
  12. My wife and I live on a public lake with a course. Love living on the lake, but hate trying to ski with the boat traffic. We spent 5 years in Florida until my job moved me back to Michigan 2 years ago. We loved being able to ski a lot in Florida with very little boat traffic. We are not great skiers, but would like to improve. With that in mind, we are looking to ski if there are any private ski clubs in the area we could join. We live in the Commerce/Novi/Wixom area. Thanks
  13. Today was the first day I did not make it through the work out. Been trying to get over a cold. Work out consisted up 4 round 30 sec on and 30 off of barbell squats, then the 4 rounds of the same for push presses. 7 rounds of sled pushes and sit-ups. WOD was going to be 4 rounds of 400 meter rows and 25 burpees. By the time we got through the sled pushes and sit-ups it was all over for me. Never made it to the WOD. I guess I will call this my active recovery day. Anyone doing the crossfit wholelife challenge?
  14. My wife and I have been doing CrossFit for a little over 2 months now. We like the fact that you have no idea of what you are going to do until you walk in. Saturday was 30 minutes of rounds of 5 deadlifts, 13 push-up and 9 box jumps. Made 16 rounds in the 30 minutes. Yesterday morning was 5 rounds of 400 meter row, 30 sit-ups and 15 deadlifts. I have to admit I have a different attitude going into work after doing that workout in the morning. Have not really seen much weight loss, but I can see improvement in my ability.
  15. my wife is as crazy about skiing as I am, although she does not know about this site. We see at day break as often as possible, and it was her idea to buy the last two new boats.
  16. @OB & @Scuppers - Thanks for the information. That is what I am starting to understand about something that deep. I am leaning toward a cable course from Ed. Just need to convince others that it is the best option. Thanks again for the information.
  17. @OB & @scuppers - Have either of you done individual anchors for the buoys with the water between 35 & 70 ft. Talked to Ed who thought a cable course woudl be a better alternative. A number of people that ski on the lake seem concerned about a cable course. Others think an individually anchored course at that depth will be a problem, both in placing the anchors and the course staying aligned in wind. Thanks for the help. Just trying to have the course be one less obsticle to skiing well.
  18. We purchased sealed weight bags from the dealer. They had them in 25 and 50lb bags. Work great and a lot less mess than sand in a bag.
  19. @ob & @scuppers - will any portable course work? Somone is selling and Accufloat course near me for $250. May be easier to buy it than try and find someone who has one.
  20. OK, so next step is find someone close with a portable course.
  21. OB, Thanks for the details. Sounds like a great and simple solution to the problem. Next step, get the portable course. Nolan
  22. OB, If I understand correctly, you are saying use cable course to layout where to drop the anchors for a permanent non-cable course. Is that correct? Never even thought of that idea. That is what makes this site great.
  23. Looking for help on ski course options. We live on a lake that has a course. The lake does not have public access, but has a lot of boat traffic. We have only been on the lake for 2 years. From our understanding, the course was put in by dropping some anchors through the ice during the winter. Prior home was on a lake with a course. My wife had progressed to being able to consistently ski 15 off at 30 mph. Now the best she has done is 4 at 15 off 28 mph. We wnet back to Florida over in the spring and she consistently ran 15 off at 28 mph. So I think that either due to the method of installation or due to time, I think the course is our of whack. So I am looking for options of what we can do. I have thought about purchasing one of the cable courses, but am worried about boaters chatching the cables with their boat anchors. Anyoen have experience with a cable course in an area that people may drop anchor. Thanks in advance for the help. Nolan
  24. I would buy one in a heartbeat.
  25. I would be interested in one of the smart timers if you were willing to separate. Were you serious about $40 for one of the timers?
