  1. We looked into it, but found it was hard to transmit the signal via the network, plus record. Add in control of zoom and playback and it got too difficult. We now run a 4k IP Camera at 30fps and a Ubiquiti long range wifi network (AirMax AC). Recording on a SD card inside the camera, plus a NVR back in the clubhouse. The NVR goes via HDMI to the TV. We also run our gate cams via the same Ubiquiti network, then NVR goes via a HDMI to Composite converter to feed Splasheye that can only handle analogue feeds (disappointingly as it would save some kit and failure modes!).
  2. Where is the legendary Glen Williams on this list! Closely followed by his spawn Curtis.
  3. Add a block to the rope going to the surface bouy. Would be a bugger if you chopped the main bouy and had to dive down and re-thread the rope.
  4. Just a heads-up that the new boot also has a side-side cuff angle adjustment in one of the hinges... take a look... ;) Sweet for balancing you up over the ski as I know a few people grumbled about the supershell pushing their fromt leg too 'upright'.
  5. For some reason it doesnt log in after i registered... stuck on authorizing. :open_mouth:

    Salt water use

We went through a number of Nautiques running in salt and had the same riser issues as others noted. They corrode internally and we replaced every 350 to 400 hours. It seems the casting of the manifolds on them have issues. We had engine replacement after Nautique didnt replace both manifolds and the other one failed letting water into the engine.

    Woodies

What do you use to refinish the skis? having a hard time getting a nice finish on some skis here that have had a hard life.
  8. As a Reflex dealer who does 90% skiing on Saltwater I can confirm everything @skialex says is spot on. My 500 series (with 750 spring and screw) is still going strong after 5 years. The worst one i see is people storing skis in neo sleeves... they stay damp, hold the salt and seem to accelerate corrosion 1000% faster.
  9. @AdamCord and if you need kiwi skiers I am sure I could find a couple that would be keen (me included)!
  10. Not sure on the supershell for tricks yet, but hopefully will have an update soon. As for skis, the Furtif is a really nice ski and Reflex released a Rubber Edge ski last year that works well and is fairly good pricing too!
  11. You can also move the release forward in the heel blocks a hole. Have a close look at the heel blocks and you will see an extra hole slightly forward.
  12. @dchristmas - I am in NZ and 2. Quite simply, they are expensive when you compare it to an offcut of rope! If you can afford the $ and want the best... Vortex it should be. @Jody_Seal - if I ran ski schools and had a choice between an expensive release or spare bits of rope I would be making the same choice as Cory etc too.
  13. I have a Vortex release here. Quite simply it is a great release - massively over engineered but that certainly isn't a problem for me! In fact it feels quality. It lives in a boat on a saltwater lake and in the last 4-5 years there have been no issues (apart from a Nautique that had a narrower pole for some reason). My preference as an 8k tricker is the Vortex over Robbins. I admit that I usually ski with a rope release as its the 'norm' for my pin men who are all good trickers. But all have and do use the Vortex at times. I personally make any new pin person use the Vortex with me as I know they cant make a mistake with the wraps etc like on a rope release. I only do hands with new guys though!
  14. Bit late to the party I know, but as a Reflex dealer I can confirm that the 500 and 750 are fully compatible. The internals, spring and screw can be added to the older 500 release with no issues (unless you let it rust in place!). The 404 is a totally different story though.
  15. @Ilivetoski maybe the size 12 plate and a 10 boot should have been a give-away!! After an issue over here with a hardshell user not wanting to listen to proper advice it just reinforces the fact that we are doing a dynamic sport and there its unlikely there is a perfect product for every situation. Skiing is a risk game... and personally I prefer choosing my risks. I bolt my boot to my trick ski in full knowledge there is no release without something breaking... and that might be me! I worry sometimes that nowadays (and i am not that old) people are transferring the responsibility for their risk to others; rather than taking personal responsibility, and making the effort to understand and accept the risks involved in the sport we are doing.
  16. I used to ski on the FM ESeries for tricks. It didnt work out and I went to the release system. I am now on the Reflex and its worth noting that the Reflex release units are a much better. FM use the Silvretta 303 release that I believe was discontinued many years ago, whereas the Reflex went to the 500 and now 750 series release which includes stainless parts for less corrosion and longer service live.
  17. @msuws I dont see why not! I have put a few beginners on both the Furtif and stealth with no issues.
  18. Disclosure - I am a Reflex dealer, but here is my take. I have a bad habit of selling my personal Reflex skis so end up skiing on a few other skis. My 'quiver' of skis currently consists of (and note I have tried all these skis for both hands and toes): Hands: > Furtif 43" as my go-to ski at the moment > Quantum 43" my backup > Stealth 43" which I have a lot less sets on and is currently living with someone else. Toes: > 42" D3 Rubber edge - stolen from partner when she wasn't looking. > 42" Reflex Rubber Edge My take is as follows: For hands I love the Furtif. In my eyes it stands well above D3 and Quantum and everyone who rides it loves it. It gets awesome lift, has loads of grip (but this might be as I ordered it with the textured non-glossy base) and is really light. It just feels lively. The stealth gets about the same lift, but feels a little looser to me on the landings (glossy base). Comparing the Quantum and D3 I reckon they are good skis, possibly more forgiving, but feel sluggish and less enjoyable compared to the Reflex's. For toes, I am getting used to the Reflex rubber edge. Feels like a D3 but with more rocker so it feels like you can rock backwards/forwards a little more on surface turns. Wake tricks it is a little more aggressive into the wake. The furtif is quick rotating, but i would want grooves to get more grip at the front/back to stop rotation. Stealth I admit I havent done toes on yet. As a side note: Quantum left me without a ski for months when I snapped one - it was off-season apparently. D3 have fixed 2 of my skis including covering the intl shipping back and Reflex had a freshly made custom graphics slalom ski to me within a week after Fedex damaged one. By the way - have you seen the finish on the Black Glossy Carbon skis Reflex does... its like Carbon Porn...
  19. I have seen 2 Reflex shells modded by a boot fitter. Was amazing what they could do and I have no doubt they can adjust if for you. I saw one with probably a 8-10mm deflection / lump added in the shell!! Might not work for warranty purposes, but they can certainly be moulded well!
  20. @ozski‌ Mapple, Asher etc... there are still a heap of the best guys on Reflex too. If the Slalom God himself (Andy) sells Reflex then it must say something about the product. Personally - take your pick. There are some great bindings out there, but all modern high performance bindings require a greater level of care nowadays to not overtighten or to maintain. Unfortunately I have seen way too many injuries over the last couple of years from badly adjusted lace-ups. There is still something to be said for the classics like Wileys! ;o)
  21. @OB where is the ranch? Are all these sites 3-event sites? Just going through them on Google. Cheers for all the tips guys!
  22. Guys, just trying to mock something out on a site that might be coming up for sale near here. What I need is to get a Google Earth view of a really well shaped 3-event ski site. I.e. something that is tight on both length and width, but works perfectly for tournament skiing. We potentially have length and width restrictions so this must to be fairly well 'contoured' (sp?) to the courses. I am thinking a site such as Hazelwoods in the UK, however that doesnt work well as due to trees I an finding it hard to get the true size and shape of the lake to overlay onto the potential site. Any other thoughts? Cheers!
  23. Dont forget the Reflex skis. At worlds, there were 2 Reflex, 2 D3 and 2 Quantums on the podium! Clem did the WR runs on the Reflex, Pierre just won masters on Reflex and Nic skied them for years! Certainly worth a try. I would say see if you can demo a bunch of skis. Certainly worth the effort.
  24. Ok, so to update the thread with a bit more info... Ski is 14 67" Zen Bindings at stock with rear 1 hole back (toes at most 5 mm from front shell) Water probably 70 degrees (salty) Zero off b2 behind 6 200 Jaws on length and head for dft. Sorry for lack of a few details - too much time around info security guys!
  25. @lpskier the rear kicker is currently fully rotated. As an update, I went with @adamhcaldwell suggestion and went forward a shade and took out a little depth. As per the suggestion, it did keep the ski under me more off the back of the ball on my off-side and stopped me falling back. Also, countintuitively in my head, it also stopped the feeling of a potential blowout on my off-side. The ski is starting to fell way better, but seems to need quite a bit of effort to maintain angle/direction off the second wake. I am skiing a bit too much buoy to buoy and cranking the turn (and repeat!). Thanks for the tip @adamhcaldwell‌
