  1. The Rules Committee met last weekend and one of the items discussed was W4 slalom speed. Jeff Surdej sent a survey out and the recent survey results were discussed which showed the results as 50/50. The committee recommends leaving AWSA W4 as it stands. This means that for ALL AWSA tournaments W4 max speed continues to be 34mph. All skiers may continue to use the ZBS option below maximum speed if they choose. For Regional and National tournaments the top speed can continue to be 34 and any scores going to IWWF ranking list will be scored as if 32mph (3@35/34 becomes 3@35/32). This will not impact our placements at those events. Skiers who want to compete at IWWF events will have to ski 32 max at those events, and AWSA skiers will not change at this time. This would have been a major change “again” and the rules committee wants to give this more time to evaluate this major change. We felt this impacted less AWSA skiers. Richelle
  2. Horton, I don't think you meant to cause so much of a stir!!! (Or maybe you did) That call was looked at by several judges with boat camera review. At 39' her front foot passed the 1,3, 5 buoy line and was scored 1/2. That is one reason why the Badal's put so much money and effort into putting on such a high class tournament. Those DVRs are amazing and the added web cast cameras are amazing. We all want to make the best call for the skier and hopefully we can learn from these scenerios. What a great event and thanks for letting me be a part of it. Richelle, Chief Judge
  3. Richelle = Skimom Ghost Skier doesn't think that either Horton or I are funny! I have something to do with Rules but trying to keep a low profile. Hate mosquito's!! I really liked being the "hot girlfriend" but now in W5 and not really feeling it :)
  4. Now we have to write MORE rules??? :) Not calling this one!
  5. Good morning! I don't know which round that was, but from experience there were several calls that were that tough to make. Bubble buoys are very hard as that example shows. 10.12(d) For judging purposes, the front foot of the skier shall be used to determine the point at which the skier crosses the quarter, half, and full point buoy lines (or the end gate in case of the final buoy). She probably did ride over the top, but those darn things just wilt away and you can't see them. We used a new system for review which worked very well, and Horton was even impressed. Those are some amazing pictures that Horton and Dirt are taking, thanks!
  6. Thanks to all who helped and participated in this great event. See you all next year! Amazing job by Greg and Debbie.
  7. I am not sure that he would have ever said any of those things, but he does like that you are talking about him :) He is going back to his style, whatever that may be! Me too! the Hot Girlfriend
  8. Janie is an amazing skier and person. She deserves all of the recognition that she can get. From skiing, to hosting tournaments, judging, driving and all of the working out that she does. I just wish I could do 1/4 of what she does!! She is an amazing inspiration to all of us. Thanks for all you do! Richelle PS. Do you think she talked her way into it :)
  9. The "hot girlfriend" won't be there, recovering from Nationals! Maybe not the best conditions for some events but the LOC did and amazing job or organizing. Thank You! I won't tell him you are all showing up and have fun!!
  10. If you are a M3, M6, W4 jumper or going into those divisions after Nationals, then you should have received a survey from USA-WS. We have been asked to increase the current speed. If you have an opinion one way or the other, please let us know. If you haven't received a survey and you think you should have please contact USA-WS to update you information. 11. All, it is great to see all of the comments pros and cons. This is exactly what our region (west) and the rules committee need to make decisions for all of the skiers. Right now the Western Region has a few concerns about this format including inflated scores, official burnout and not knowing when the skiers will ski. With our meeting coming in Nov. it will be great to have this feedback to offer the committee. We, as a region, would not like to see this as a rule, but having this feedback is a great start to possibly changing things in the future. There is currently an option for an exception and maybe more feedback is necessary. Thanks and we do listen. the Hot Girlfriend PS maybe I will have the guts to go into the other thread of who we are, but I think I have already been ratted out!
  12. OK, I guess I am busted. Was off skiing with the ghost skier this weekend trying to find the elusive 6 ball-no luck! I am not a big poster on message boards, but I do read them. I would like to make sure that everyone understands the rules. Maybe not everyone agrees with them but at least have an understanding of why they have been put in place. In answer to these questions, several people are correct. The safety of the skier was a major factor. Having sat in the boat watching several skiers end up next to the boat trying to get into the buoy line to score a full buoy we realized that this could be a major safety issue. Also for the boat crew when the skier had to hold on to an enormous amount of slack and having the handle fly into the boat. Most of the pros understand the rule and are either doing the zigzag to get the full buoy or waiting just outside the boat guides with more control and coming in with a tight line. I think that the rule has not been understood and this is a great opportunity to get the information out to skiers. One other issue is the exit gates and the verdict is still out. Both rule books state "and ski away" there has been an interpretation of 6 no continuation but at the rules committee meeting we will be trying to make it more understandable, which ever way that goes. the Hot Girlfriend (thanks Horton for the nickname)
  13. OK my passion! To clarify the rule about holding on for a whole buoy. No driver should be pulling back the throttle because no skier should be holding on to "beat the snot out of yourself". If you have slack behind the boat and still ride away, that score should still be a half. That rule was implemented for the safety of the boat crew. If Horton did a zigzag, which is what he should do for a whole buoy score then he should have been able to ride away without the driver trying to help. Also when calling gates and feeling generous just think about what you did to all of the other skiers in the event. Happy skiing and thanks Than for that last paragraph about "rules creating the environment in which fun is possible. The Hot Girlfriend
  14. The ghost rider found your tale quite amusing and sorry that some haven't found the humor. Remember life is more fun when we can laugh at ourselves, but thanks for coming to his defense. The "hot girlfriend"
