  1. @ecno I Skied a Reflex for 2 years and liked it. It was a difficult transition from rubber bindings, and my first hand full of sets were exactly like @Chef23's. I never felt like my offside was as consistent with it though. I attributed that to the narrow front of the boot not allowing me to get my inside toe planted and bring my weight forward. What ultimately made me switch to a Vapor binding was a prerelease that hurt like *%@#. I tested it many times like Andy and Horton before that occurred. I was worried about the lack of stability when I switched to the Vapor because of its hybrid design (I tried a rubber binding once or twice during my time on the Reflex and felt like I was using a sock for a binding). Switching back to a rubber binding was more difficult than the switch to a hardshell. I found the lateral control and rigidity of the Vapor was equal to that of the Reflex, and felt immediately comfortable.
  2. @twhisper just tried your site today. It worked fine. Even in a Google search, it said "this site might be hacked"
  3. Tried to go to Terry's website today. It's been hacked.
  4. Last years Polyforms lasted half the summer. This year they appear to be holding up better.
  5. I had back issues a few years ago from all the get-ups. I use a rear toe and drag a foot now. It's much easier on the back.
  6. The first new ski I ever bought was a Connelly Shadow. That's what he skied on back in the day.
  7. A front Attack and a rear toe should be just fine for you. I skied well with that set-up for two years. I transitioned to a reflex for two years and now use a Radar Vapor. If you want something with more lateral stability than the Attack without going to a hard shell, the Vapor is a great choice.
  8. I wanted to ask this question myself. I've tried many different skis and keep going back to my 6.0. I think my next new ski should be another Mapple.

@jweber I think I'll do exactly that. It's my partner's ski and I mounted my Vapor binding to it. The middle hole was close to stock, so I went with it. I have time now to experiment.

I skied the VTR a few sets a month ago. It might be one of the best turning skis I've ever been on (especially my off-side). Had a problem getting width on my harder passes. I skied a 66", but I'm at the top of the weight range. I'd really like to get my hands on a 67".
  11. +1 @Lovell. Patience is key for me at 35 off. I need to be intense behind the boat and patient in my preturn and in my turn. The ball will be going past you and you are not at the apex of your arc. Don't rush your turn. You are better off finishing 15 feet past the ball with a good turn than forcing the ski to turn at the ball. This is a mental issue of running my hardest passes that I struggle with.
  12. @skinut like you would expect from a large crossover. I thought I was going to get hurt.
  13. I tried the 22, 28, and 32 off wakes. 32 is very skiable. I didn't have the 15 off section on my rope or I would have tried that too.
  14. Skied a set on one today for the first time. Lots of potential. Creates lots of angle out of the ball. I had to make sure I was on top of the ski in my preturn or it would break me at the waist. I'm a consistent 28 and 32 off skier and go deep into 35 most sets, running them on occasion. Today, I ran 35 the first set. It wasn't pretty, and it didn't count, but it was the first set.
  15. I used a fabric marker.
  16. I also recommend going up a size. I'm a size 10 dress shoe, and size 11 running shoe. I went with a size 12 Vapor, and I'm glad I did. I switched last year from a reflex (black cuff). I was worried about a lack of lateral support switching from a hard shell, but felt immediately comfortable with the Vapor. In fact, I felt even more connected to the ski. Ran a pb after switching.
  17. @DBski just built one for our sn196 to sit on over the winter while in storage. Cost was around $110, but he did use the carpeted bunks from his boat lift to save us some money. Not sure if he has a picture.
  18. I go to Cancun several times a year. Most of the time my room overlooks the lagoon with only slalom course there. I say leave the ski at home too. Even if Scott is around, conditions usually aren't that good.
  19. Thank you everyone. @bassfooter As important as technique becomes at the shorter line lengths, the biggest hurdle for me was a mental one. At 28 off and even 32 off, I'm use to initiating the turn well in front of the ball and back siding it. That just doesn't happen at 35 off (at least for me). Because I'm further down course at the apex of the turn, I now have the perception of being late causing me to lose patience and rush the turn. I need to remind myself coming into the ball that I'm not late, the ball is just in a different spot relative to the apex of my turn at that line length. That helps me be patient, get my hips forward with a good reach (like Chris Parrish says, the belly button and the reach should be in the same direction) and turn with proper form. So, to make it simple, what I'm trying to say is, turn like you do at 28 off, even though the ball may have already gone by. I've said that to @dbski countless times getting into the boat after forcing the ski to turn as 4 ball (my off side) goes by. The biggest technique improvement that helped me was handle control. After I ran the pass, I reviewed it in my mind and can remember arching my back, tucking it into the handle with it actually touching my abdomen as I was doing my work behind the boat. That stacked position and bent knees also helped me negotiate the wake trough which was a challenge for me at 35 off. @h2o.nhk I did run 1@38
  20. OB1 Perfect use of the left seat pay raise.
  21. I'm a 10.5 to 11, and I went with size 12 Vapor's. Glad I did.
  22. I felt more of a change going from a pair of old RS1's to the Vapor than I did going from the Reflex to the RS1's. It only took me a set to get comfortable with them. I've tried many of the current bindings on the market, and these are keepers.
