  1. My son & I sent Andy a photo of my boy skiing over 10 years ago, when he was first learning to slalom, aged around 5, he's 18 now. Andy's reply included an Autographed DVD. What great encouragement for a small boy out in Australia. A truly giving role model for the sport & total gentleman. Highly respected & will be missed in this family.
  2. @Schafer, It is a graphic display. Simply an LCD panel sandwiched to a circuit board with a conductive rubber strip. From memory the press buttons were also malfunctioning before I tightened the screw. Was a very simple process to dismantle & assemble again. Cheers.
  3. I've had an occasion where I've pulled my display apart because of a problem Found the 4 screws that sandwiched the display to the circuit board were loose & making the connection poor. Tightened them up & now all Ok. That must have been 5 or 6 years back now. Mentioned it in this thread. ballofspray.com/forum#/discussion/11525/perfect-pass-display-not-working Cheers.
  4. Wow, some of those names rattled the brain cells I thought I'd killed as a teenager. Didn't get a chance to watch the edited version, but the uncut one was a superb hours watch. Fantastic stuff. Great candour. Really interesting & easy going guy. Hope there's more to come. Who next? maybe Roger Teeter? Thanks for the great stuff. To those who haven't. Watch it!
  5. And the Lake's like a mirror this morning.....
  6. I'll 2nd 100mph. My 4.0Litre falcon does 160km/h @ 3100 rpm. We slalom at around 3000 behind a 400 Chev. The car is only facing rolling resistance & air drag, so the boats gotta be working a whole heap harder. Other side of the coin is that over 15 years and 800+ hours (Yes it's an old tub), fuel consumption has always averaged out at 11.0 Litres/hour per season. Maybe the hours/consumption would be of better help in a rough translation of hours to miles.
  7. Another Vote for Oxalic Acid. Commercially sold in Aus as Rust & Stain remover. I mix a lid full with a cup of Truck Wash in about 5 litres of water & just spray it on with a garden sprayer. Watch the stains disappear in a matter of minutes & then hose it all down. Never had any problems doing it on my lawn, but am always generous with the rinse down as it can cause a little rust if you let the solution remain.
  8. I can add a little more about the Comp-X2. Got mine back in 1979 and a few years back found this.... (From Powerboat magazine, April 1978).
  9. There's always alternatives. No Carb Beer. http://burleighbrewing.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/big-head-small.jpg http://burleighbrewing.com.au/beers/bighead/ Then there's a good 18 Year Old Single Malt. http://www.theglenlivet.com/~/media/Images/Global/Bottles%20and%20flavours/FLAVOURS_18b.png Or a cheap Scotch and Soda.
  10. @Roger, Canon released a new 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L a few weeks back. Great improvement. Very versatile lens & good value.
  11. 1997 built Carby 400 Chev 850 hours, Head gaskets at around 700. Doing around 3000 revs at 34, so not working hard.
  12. Finally fixed the photos in my previous post. Here they are again though. Hopefully links work to bigger images. Cheers Phil. My Eldest Boy. 13. Sadly it's been 15' off for the past 10 years. Deep 28' (4 balls) seemed so easy back when skiing was 4 times a week. 22' was usually starting length for several runs. Shared custody of my kids (ski partners) has turned it to a fortnightly to weekly event. Apart from lack of practice & overskiing easier runs seems to the biggest thing hindering progress these days. Cheers.
  14. Guy with the yellow V-Type? Which skiier are you refering to? Did boat video while one guy there did 2 @ 39. his 38 was faultless.
  15. Always Canon since 1980 @Horton, 7D II totally rocks, with either the 100-400L, or the 70-200 2.8L. One hell of a camera.
  16. Hmmmm Don't know why that did post properly. Any ideas @horton? A better look can be had over here.... http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3760673 Cheers. Phil.
  17. 7D Mark II got it's first run at a tournament on the weekend. All shot with an EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L Focus tracking is phenomenal. My Eldest Boy. 18. What are people's thoughts on Perfect Pass settings for free skiing? Our course lake is shallowing up a fair bit so are adding trips to the publice lake to our week. Tried Wakeboard mode & it was Woeful, throttling after the 2nd wake, and GPS slalom mode seems not to use it's logic without gate buoy triggering. The pull just feels too different. Any suggestions on replicating the cours pull in open water? Running Stargazer & Zbox with 7.004R at present. Any upgrades on this software known? Cheers Phil
  19. @GaryWilkinson, 7DII arrived Monday. Absolutely phenononal! 10fps shutter is so smooth. AF controls brilliant. Focus tracking lightning fast on my L lenses. Ended up added a 24-105mm f4L to my kit for boat shots & now have Autofocus on the 100-400mm L with the 1.4 extender attached. Looking forward to that extra reach for shooting from the bank. Only shot a handful of frames, but 16,000 ISO performance clean blows my 50D's 3200 ISO clean out of the water. Cheers Phil
  20. Over????? It's still October!!! Not even into Summer Hehe.
  21. @ Roger, Am upgrading to a 7DII in a few weeks (Can't wait). Early reviews have it hard on the heels of the 1DX in performance. 10fps, huge buffer & fantastic focus tracking. I don't dismiss the merits of Full Frame, but crop suits my interests more. Really looking forward to being able to have AF on the 100-400mm with my 1.4 extender. Extra reach from the bank with AF will be good to play with. Slightly tames the desire to own a EF 600mm f4. @jhughes & @bbirlew, a 50mm is a little redundant for me as I have an EF-S 60mm f2,8 macro, It is razor sharp & very distortion free. 10-22mm is a killer too. Loved adding it to my kit. All still brings me back to either a EF-S 15-85mm or a 24-105mm f4L. Cheers
  22. @Kelvin & @Zman, Full frame is not on my want list. I personally get more value out of the extra reach of the 1.6 crop. Also have 3 other EF-S lens (wider) that would not be of use on full frame. I currently have a 7DII on Pre-order for when they ship in November. For my purposes the extra reach of a good lens on Crop sensor serves me well. Also use a 100-400mm L & have a 1.4 Extender that WILL Auto focus on the 400 on the 7DII. I've run a lot of shots through ExposurePlot http://www.vandel.nl/ and find I shoot mostly between 50 & 120mm from the boat. My boys are just starting to ski lengths up to 28 off, so that will change things in the direction of needing less length. I did shoot full frame in the film days & the 70-200mm was perfect back then, but on crop is too long. I know the EF-S 15-85mm is sharp & focuses fast, but just not sure if it has enough reach. That's why i'm also considering the 24-105mm f4L. Cheers.
