  1. I'll chime in on this. First, @jhughes who did you PM in your post above? It appears you might have hijacked this thread trying to sell your boat. Nah, you wouldn't do that. Second, you then went on to say how slippery all Malibu's from '17 on are, they're the worst, and then said your '23 actually drives pretty well. Well, maybe the factory had two good days because this boat drives very good. I had no problem switching back a forth from that crazy 200 to the Malibu at the tourney this past weekend and run respectable Surpath numbers in both boats from the Boys divisions all the way through M3, 6, 7 & 10. This Malibu does drive very well. For TXi as you say. Sure the 200s might be more consistent from boat to boat but this Bu is no slouch. It also skis very well too. But don't take my word for it, I'm still working on my deep water starts.
  2. @Horton So what's the theory? I'd heard you could potentially fail your driving test if you removed your hand from the throttle while the boat is under power.
  3. Prior to everything blowing up, would Larry Nassar have passed a background check or a SS class? Most likely. So wtf does it do? If USOC would give up info on USOC people who knew what he was doing maybe I'd be more of a fan. Definitely people at USA Gymnastics should go to jail. Probs USOC people too... That was a direct quote from a waterski partner of mine. He's contemplating renewing his and his family's memberships.
  4. @Wish It's just the tip of the iceberg. I can think of tournaments in Helena, Kalispell, Greybull and possibly one or two in E.WA which will end. Why, because we have a hard time getting officials filled out for the number of divisions required to just run these events. There's a reason in the tourney guide we went to TBD for running order. I, along with the other chiefs, have spent many hours prior to tourney day trying to figure out running orders so we don't have to change drivers & judges every two skiers. So now, we have background checks. Skier 'A' drives 500 miles, Skier 'B' 400 miles & skier 'C' 250 miles to ski and help out where they can. We as chief officials are relying on these skiers and their ratings to make this tournament happen. Skier A & C have not completed the background check and are, now, not able to help. The tourney is a bust. Do we refund all the entries? Does the sanction fee get refunded? Surely our sympathetic governing body will understand and take care of the LOC. And you know where sympathy falls in the dictionary?
  5. @The_MS "As an organization we pushed back on this and submitted an appeal arguing our judges did not fall into a position of authority… Unfortunately, that appeal was denied by the USOCP. As a national governing body under the oversight of the USOPC, we are required to follow these policies and procedures…" Why are we required to follow these policies? Why did our governing body side with USOPC? Why couldn’t they have seen where this will end and stood behind the membership? This would have been the perfect time to sever ties. Unless there’s some small print we don’t know about. Did we sign in blood? But it’s most likely money. How ‘bout Due to your denial with regard to USA-WSWS request to reconsider background checks for all adult judges we regret to inform you we will no longer continue to support USOPC. Effective January 1, 2022 we will no longer be part of your organization.
  6. @jgills88 point taken. The other day I recieved the email from headquarters and as I read through it my first thought was, well that's it for me. It's time. Some of my decision is personal but this hoop I'm not jumping through. Could I? Sure. I'm just not going to. I know I don't give as much to this organization as most but I have spent plenty of time keeping my ratings current, volunteering and traveling to tourneys. The part of this decision which really bugs me is, leaving a couple of friends without a chief scorer. They'll figure it out though. Like @Jody_Seal I was wandering around the house this morning thinking about this, except I had pants on, and my thoughts went to a group of guys to my east. It would only take 2 or 3 of them to decide this was the final straw and it potentially could eliminate 4 to 6 tournaments. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out in the years to come.
  7. I'm a snow skier... I'm also a snow ski instructor. I teach kids. And adults. I have to take a Safe Sport class. Ok I'm a snow skier... In order for me to ski at any resort in the US, because there's kids there, I have to take a Safe Sport class. No
  8. I pretty much have one gun case. She has seen me leave hunting & shooting with it all the time and knows it well. All the new guns come home in that case
  9. I'm 50% sure I can wrestle the ski @jipster43 won away from him and 100% sure I can out run him (see below). 4 passes into JP's season this happened. Yes, while skiing. And yes, literally the first ride of the year from what I understand. Kidding aside, I'm happy for your win. You deserve it. Just don't leave your ski unattended next summer if I'm around ;)
  10. @mfjaegersr Good to know for my recollection of the event. Or lack there of apparently. Which means, where the pic was taken most likely did get a bunch of ash. I too thought of the Joe Cash photo when reading the thread title.
  11. They are a little bit lucky the mountain blew to the north as that reservoir is due south of St Helen's. Although even if it had gone south the Swift reservoir (NE of them) most likely would have taken the brunt of the mud flow. At least in the short term. I also suspect the ash fall out was probably minimal where they were as most of it went east toward Yakima, Moses Lake, Ritzville & Spokane. Prevailing wind. If you ever have time, and are in the area, it's worth the drive up to the Johnson Observatory. The devastation can still be seen and is pretty impressive even 40 years later. I remember the day well. Cool photo
  12. @vernonreeve "great guys" might be a stretch ?
  13. @Horton Funny. Yes, beer cam. You can find them in stores right next to the drinking goggles. If you can get a mssg to Nick tell him to be careful. In that part of E WA it's a shoot first and ask questions later. Wolves, cougars, Sasquatch etc etc.
  14. One mtn pass west of our lake place. If he's heading east maybe I'll catch him on the game cams. Or her I suppose.
  15. I've been a Nautique guy for a long time and currently own two (1997 & 2008). If somebody was going to give me a new one for free I'd take the MC.
  16. "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges." (apply as necessary) "Excuse me while I whip this out." (pulls ski out of case)
  17. I'll echo what @MS said. I skied two rounds behind it last weekend. A2 145#. Been at A2 on every boat/motor combination since '08. After round 1 I asked what others were feeling and apparently most weren't feeling what I was. So, I left my settings the same for round 2 with a loose game plan to change letter if need be. After the way my opener felt I was thinking I should change to B2. But didn't. After my next pass I thought the same but still didn't. Stayed A2 for the rest of the set. I've ignored the other threads about the boat here until this passed Monday. I now have read them all. My thoughts are... I've now had two ski rides behind it and what I felt is real. Or real to me anyway. If there is a next time behind it this year I'll start off with my standard setting but won't hesitate to move to B2.
  18. Surely with all the innovations, and the price tag, they figured out how to make back up in both directions?
  19. So, I've spoke with Tim at length about this and was getting texts throughout the day it happened. The short version is, he had the opportunity to shorten his handle. It was getting close to his time to ski and he didn't have anything with him to fix it. He took a gamble. That said, before he skied he had it measured and the person on the dock measuring handles said it was good. He also had two other people look at it (both TC's and very high level judges in their own right) and they said it was good. BUT, as Tim told me, "my bad choice." The handle is just over a year old and he didn't think it would stretch out of tolerance at this point in it use cycle. It's had plenty of load put on it in the last year. I can attest to that. Ultimately, what it came down to was the rule Horton posted. CJ, appointed judges, et al, got together asked, I presume, the dock starter (TC's designee)... was it in before he skied (yes), was it out after he skied (yes) then according to the rule (zero). There was a bunch of drama in between. Including, from what I understand, a measurement of the handle where it was deemed in tolerance. Which brought another delay in the ruling. What no one has said so far is, the reason all this came about was due to a protest by, again I presume, one of the skiers. Which triggers all kinds of thoughts for me. The logical and calmer side of me... the protester would have had to see the handle get measured after the ski ride. The protest was made because the TC's designee was not going to make the necessary "zero call". What if this skiers score would have netted him a 4th, 7th of 12th place finish? Would you still have protested. Where as the not so calm me thinks, what a chicken shit move to file a protest against a fellow skier when he clearly did not intend to cheat. You're an egotistical ass and your one additional position in the standings apparently means enough to you to take a score from another competitor over something which clearly did not give him an advantage. Look, many of us have had judges calls go for or against us, but I, personally, would have let the judges make the call and let the chips fall where they may. But that's just me. Hell, maybe I'm doing this for all the wrong reasons.
  20. What everyone has said. Apr-Oct with a drysuit. With a stretch of warm weather I've barebacked it in May only to be back in a drysuit two weeks later. Rubber June- mid Sept pretty easy. There's only one permanent course set up on public water I know of and it is maintained by the ski club on Lake Spokane (Long Lake). No man made lakes in the Spokane area. As bigskieridaho said, the two private sites, which hold tournaments are Moses Lake (1.5 hrs) and Basin City (2hrs). Oh, and there's only one decent skier in the area but he's an electrical engineer and apparently doesn't know how to use a tape measure. To soon?
  21. So, every once in a while I ski with the skier this happen to and his comment to me, and I quote, "my fault for not shortening my handle". His biggest gripe was how it all went down. Not the rules. Non the less, he accepts he was responsible and he should have made sure it would measure.
  22. @aupatking Got down here last night. Much warmer here than E WA. The family had nothing planned today and/so they decided they wanted to go check out Weeks Bay P. Very neat place. My girlfriend in-law (?) has lived in this area her whole life and had no idea this place existed. Which seems to be a running theme in all the years I've been skiing. If you're not a skier you just don't know. In a way it's funny. Her & bro in-law also said they wanted to come check out the place next spring. And no, none of my family here skis.
  23. Scott & Mary, ah yes, two outstanding people and skiers. They have been heavily involved in tournament skiing for a long time. Spokane... hum, that's where I'm from and you got me thinking. The skiing population for this area, in the fashion we all pursue this sport, is not that large. @lpskier
  24. @Zman @aupatking Guys, the offer for a ski ride is much appreciated but I'm not planning on bringing my gear. I just thought if anybody was skiing, I wouldn't mind taking a boat ride and meeting a few people. The escape part I mentioned. I definitely don't want to inconvenience anyone around this Christmas holiday. I can call it Christmas, right? My brother in-law just moved so I'm thinking we'll be down that way in the future at a better time of year. For skiing that is. I'll take a rain check if that's okay. Your lows in the 20s is above our highs here in eastern WA for the last week. Teens & low twenty's during the day and single digits at night. It is warming up to around 30 for the next couple days but that's because it's going to snow some more. Next week it's more of the same cold. I'm not complaining. I like the four seasons. @lpskier In the past I've done the Orlando/WPB deal in the winter and it's very nice. Not scared at all to ski this time of year down there. It has been 3 months since my last ride so I'd be a little scared about that part.
  25. Is there any skiing going on in the general area at this time of year? Or any time of year for that matter. I'm flying down and spending the Christmas holiday with the in-laws and may need an escape for an afternoon. I'm not really planning on bringing my ski stuff but was wondering if maybe I could watch a boat run up & down the lake with a skier in tow.
