  1. I just bought this boat and didn't come with a users manual. Can anyone help (or point me to a youtube video). That explains how to make speed setting adjustments in smaller increments. Thank you!
  2. Somewhat related. I have a lead on a 2002 197 prostar TT with 400 hours. I know the owners and am curious what people think of this year and model and what I should expect to pay. I have tried searching around and the reviews don't look great....I would only buy if it were a "good" deal...and not a lot of sales info out there. Need to get handle on price before doing a test ride.
  3. this is all super helpful guys, very much appreciate all the feedback!
  4. Not to further complicate, is there a bigger hull worth adding to the discussion. pretty clean '95 MC 205 close by that also caught my attention. Thank you all for the feedback!
  5. Was looking at doing a restoration on one of these two boats. Which of these two has a better slalom wake? Anyone had experience with doing major work on either? Should be considering other makes/years? I picked these two with the understanding they both have quality slalom wakes (even compared to new boats). Thanks!
  6. Was about to pull the trigger on a 1999 SN 196 but... I am thinking a bigger boat is what we need. Have sat in a MC 197 (have not skied) - felt bigger inside and now rethinking my whole search - want to narrow which dd boats will have more space (could still be a closed bow) without sacrificing on the slalom wake. Thoughts on models/years would be great. service in area is MC, SN, BU, supra, and centurion. Looking to spend sub $30k.
  7. Ah i see...i had no idea...great that i have been able to get a lot of pulls on this boat but kind of bummed to hear that lol and apologies for the novice question. I have good service from 1. Nautique 2. Malibu...distant third 3. Master craft in my area. Is the 196 considered the best older wake or are there other strong contenders? Again, mostly free skiing BUT...really really like the performance of this '15 prostar and have definitely stepped up my game spending more time behind this boat.
  8. Very helpful feedback, thank you all! @ski-dad - i would have a bigger budget for a V-drive. I guess what i am hearing from the group though is there is only the "least offensive" v-drive and would simply be apples and oranges if trying to replicate the new pro star wake benchmark i provided?
  9. I primarily do free skiing and have been skiing mostly behind a 2015 prostar. For many reasons a vdrive makes a lot of sense and was curious how much different the wake will be on an xt 20 ? Has anyone here skied both - thoughts - just don't even want to test drive if it's not even close? I feel like i have progressed significantly with a few seasons now on a proper inboard and don't want to loss that momentum. A separate question would be is there a $30,000 or less inboard that will have a comparable wake to the '15 prostar?
  10. So not even close between the two? Both are a direct drive. Will take a look at this Malibu. Is there a specific year/hull?
  11. Have a lead on these two boats. Would be using for multi sport but am most focused on quality of slalom wake. I know need to test drive but both a good drive away so trying to prioritize which to see first. I am a beginner skier and coming off occasionally going behind a 2014 mc x23 so my hope of getting a direct drive there will be a dramatic difference.
  12. So is the communities final vote then that the Malibu VLX with diamond hull is the best vdrive slalom wake?
  13. "Can anyone comment on the difference in slalom wake between these newer vdrives, and say a mid 90s prostar 205. Will any dd always have a better wake? I ask because i know there are a bunch of older dd that people love to highlight as great wakeboarding boats - which maybe also means just "ok" slalom wake."

  15. I would have thought the new GS series would be a stronger contender but haven't seen too many votes for this multi-sport option.
  16. New or used - just want best hull design to do both, with aim of it having a better slalom wake than a 17 xt23 (which is my current point of reference). So from the responses above it appears that the first choice to compare would be a 13-15 vtx?
  17. Hi, new to the forum and realize there have been some posts but nothing super conclusive on this topic from my view. Have been out on a mastercraft XT23 which for the size of the boat thought the wake was surprisingly manageable for slalom but surf is excellent. Is there better? We only have mastercraft, malibu and nautique in our area. For those that have spent time in the XT, GS,and BU vtx. would appreciate any input. Would love to be able to do both ski and surf (even if it means extra weighting to get a good surf wake).
