  1. I know this thread hasn't been active for a hot minute, but I'll give it a shot. I recently found a gravel pit that might be perfect to drop a course into. The western portion of the site is active, but the eastern portion seems to be inactive. Check out the photo below to see the gravel pit. My plan is to approach the company that owns and operates the pit with the intention of being able to operate a ski club on the lake. If you were the owner of the site, what would you want in exchange for letting a club lease/ski on your site? There have been some good suggestions within this thread; letting employees/owner's family ski, etc. Are there any other features or benefits that you would suggest that I bring up in my meeting with the site owners?
  2. @justcuz My dad just bought a new Prostar and is selling his previous 197. Fair price and a great boat. Very clean and well maintained. http://www.ski-it-again.com/php/skiitagain.php?endless=summer&topic=Search&category=Boat_3Event&postid=47513
  3. Captain Mike's is the best thing I have found in a bottle but I always use chemical products sparingly but it's great. Otherwise hot water, liquid detergent, a scrub brush, and some TLC. Works wonders.
  4. A large part of the commentary throughout this thread has been about collegiate skiers and retention of those members. I'm not sure the exact number of collegiate teams, but there are a lot with what I would guess is an average of 20 eligible USAWS members per, at Purdue we have ~50+ members but only 15-20 have posted a score in a tournament. The other members just want to ski for fun or wakeboard, but we make them buy a membership for insurance purposes. Of the 15-20 people that have skied in a collegiate tournament only 4 skied in a tournament outside of the collegiate season. I think that there should be some type of reward granted to the collegiate team that can has the most skiers who ski in summer tournaments (introducing them to new levels of the sport) and a second reward for USAWS membership retention post-graduation. Right now, I know, in the Midwest at least, there are financial rewards given to the team that has the most members that earn officials ratings. This would be a similar system where the reward would go directly to the team. This is a great fundraiser that helps keep people in the sport. I think that even if someone isn't skiing in tournaments, knowing that they are helping their former team may be incentive enough for them to sign up for their membership. IDK, I'm not them. I think the first incentive concept would be more effective because it is introducing the collegiate skiers to local skiers and the summer tournament scene.
  5. @AdamCord is that the old peat moss farm? I remember hearing about that. We have a great site now, the only complaint is the distance. All the risk definitely makes sense, I was just hoping to get through it somehow.
  6. Hey Ballers, I'm the current president of the Purdue Water Ski Team and I'm trying to make a lake work that I just found in the Lafayette area. We have a very nice site that we currently use with a boat, but we are limited by use and distance since it is nearly an hour each way from campus. The lake I found is at the Subaru factory in Lafayette, so it similar to some of the lakes I have seen that are at FedEx facilities, etc. Does anyone have any advice on how to get them to lease out their lake? I reached out to the facility and was given the cold shoulder and told that it was just for use by the employees. Any help would be much appreciated! Clay
  7. Check out http://swervewatersports.com he is doing a couple of collegiate weeks just before school starts. I can't remember what he is charging, but it's something like $80-100/ day including food and housing. Don't quote me on that, I'd let him tell you firsthand but it's a nice site in Tennessee.
  8. Summer waterski tournaments aren't all that fun. You wake up drive some distance to a lake and ski maybe three times and sit around the rest of the day. Some times you have a banquet with dinner, but the event aspect is nonexistent. The only part of the sport that seems to be growing or even have a large presence is collegiate skiing. I think the only reason for this is that it is a party theres something to do other than just sit around waiting your turn all day. Those same kids that ski in collegiate tournaments rarely ski in summer tournaments. Competitive waterskiing has very limited access which has severely limited the sport.
