  1. Both feet in when starting? If your plowing that tells me your weight is too far back and the ski is vertical. Try sucking your rear foot under your butt as the boat goes to keep the ski at a 30 degree angle to the water. trying to think of why the hard shell would cause this - maybe your pushing through your front heel instead of the ball of your foot, hence changing the ski’s angle of attack. the flex in the rubber bindings lends itself to getting you to press with the ball of foot and get on top of the ski. With a hard shell you have to be more deliberate in you positioning. i seem to recall missing my first start or two when I made this transition a decade ago. hope this helps.
  2. Hi - small chance I might take a new job that would be in Austin, what would the commute time during rush hour be from this location? thanks JMO
  3. Jodi Fisher is great place as well. https://jodisskiskool.com
  4. Bummer - looks like you at Ann McGinnis’ place in Fort Lauderdale? if so it might be the baggage handlers at that airport, I was there a few weeks ago and the plastic shielding on the side of my masterline bag got torn off, fortunately no damage to the ski. Ann said the week before one her clients ski bags got run over and destroyed the skiis and the sport tube.
  5. I used a collagen supplement for year upon a recommendation from my trainer. Didn’t seem to make a difference for me. not sure there has been a medical study to prove benefit. After all since you eat it, your digestive track is going to break it down anyways, so if you eating well it shouldn’t be needed IMHO.
  6. For me it’s - off season training: strength, cardio, and mobility/stretching. This helps offset the abuse from the asymmetrical loading incurred from waterskiing. then in season, warm up before skiing, stretch/mobility after. Give yourself rest days and mix in a few non skiing workouts. Big fan of Jenny LaBaw’s program, I have worked with her directly and highly recommend it direct or via flow point method. as I have gotten older, skipping post workout stretching/mobility exercises gets me in the most trouble. It makes a big difference in how sore I am the next day.
  7. @Dano I don’t see the post above changing guidance for the gt40? The bottom section of the PCM guidance post above for “others like gt40” is incomplete as it specifies the change interval only. You can see on the PCM site, the service advisory notice on this still shows 15w40 for the gt40 (above 50 degrees F) The switch to dexos 5w30 from 15w40 is for the newer DI engines. This is where the “Notice” at the bottom regarding change it at the next interval is relevant.
  8. FYI, dexos gen 3 has replaced gen 2. I could only find gen 3 this past Fall when I winterized.
  9. Biggest difference I notice skiing the 200, 196 & Prostar is at 30-32 mph and 22 off. There is a small bump on the 196 & 200 wake that’s just not there on the Prostar. Best way I would describe the difference is if your just learning 22 off, the Prostar wake is more forgiving if you hit it on a flat ski.
  10. Thanks everyone, I found a furniture uphosterly repair guy locally that thinks he can swap in a heavy duty zipper, will see what the $ to repair is.
  11. Hi, my master line one event travel bag has a busted zipper, and ML doesn’t repair them anymore. Does anyone have the new Radar travel roller bag? It’s almost the exact same dimensions as the ML but is way cheaper. Curious how it compares. we travel internationally with 2 slalom skiis, the ML worked great until the zipper started to go. sport tube isn’t a great option for international travel given security fully opens them up and won’t carefully repack it after they are done. thanks
  12. Our course is on a public lake, a boat guide got taken out recently, but what was strange was the line wasn’t cut - it was completely pulled off the pole. as you can see in the picture the prop caught the rope and pulled it through the clamp that establishes the loop around the pipe.
  13. I would pull it all. Your shoreline is conducive to easy removal via getting a wheel kit for the lift.
  14. Nice - behind my boat my kids, nieces and nephews have to “earn” a tubing ride by skiing (or at least trying.)
  15. In looking at the video you posted, your driver is taking off at angle which is not helping. Make sure your driver has you perfectly lined up and takes off in a straight line.
  16. Most likely your manual calls for Dextron III, which GM is no longer “certifying” anymore given they released Dextron 6 (which is synthetic) as its replacement for modern vehicles. So what you can get at the auto parts store is labeled Dex/merc which is still dex-3, it just doesn’t have the label anymore.
  17. I don’t have an answer for you, but if you can be more specific on what year/model trailer and boat, you might get a response. Did you try asking your question on PlanetNautique? The guy that runs it might know if Ramlin ever had a multi purpose trailer that covered both models. Also, that’s a wide range of years your looking at, and in that time span the wetted surface of the 196 hull has changed multiple times, which could change how the bunks are laid out. the bigger challenge with putting a 196 on a 206 trailer or vice versa is getting it properly centered from a weight distribution perspective, and making sure the propeller doesn’t hit the front of the prop cage by being too far forward. I personally always put a trailer under my Nautiques that are designed for them. When I bought a used 2006 196 SN awhile ago, it didn’t have a trailer, so I had a new one built for it. how do you plan on using it?
  18. One other tidbit that might help is to intentionally have the ski tip slanted over on the side of your front foot vs having the ski dead center at 12 o’clock while waiting to take off. Think having the tip at either 10 o’clock (lff) or 2 o’clock (rff) as you’re floating in the water getting lined up. So if you’re a left foot forward skier you can let you ski tip flag to the left and as the boat goes it will straighten itself out on take off. The issue comes in when you have the ski tip at 12 o’clock and: 1. The ski tip happens to flop over away from your dominant side just as the boat goes. 2. your driver takes off on an angle that causes the ski to flag/fall over to your non dominant side. which is really hard to recover from and can cause missed starts IMHO.
  19. It would be great to see Freddie’s fellow competitors band together and boycott the Masters, after all they could be next…
  20. +1 for static stretching post ski only, active warm up before. I made this adjustment in the late 90’s coaching HS wrestling - switched away from static stretching at the beginning of practice to the end. Hard to prove it reduced injuries, but it seemed to help. This was a change from what I was taught as a competitor during earlier decades…
  21. I bet you can change the display units from metric to English? Is it all metric (speed, temp, etc) or just the oil pressure?
  22. Agree it is not needed, on my old 196 I did the same as Thager, except I disconnect the input to the Raw water strainer and connect the section of 1” I.D clear hose from Home Depot.
  23. @Sethro- you sure your paddlewheel is used as an input to PP? on my old 196 the paddlewheel was connected to the analog speedo gauge, separate from the PP (rev 6.5 I think) unit. Often times the speed displayed on the two did not match…
  24. You know your a water skier from New England when you are talking about skiing in April and your co workers think you talking about snow skiing…
