  1. McClintock’s …this Friday….Who’s coming ?? Great chance to build some Southern Ontario ski culture. Always a fun early season day to make some new friends at JMacs. Weather looks like it’s going to be great. Hope to see some of you there.
  2. I use to have similar experiences with course balls for years , and all types. UV rays are killer. Gummy top surface was a magnet for bugs. Have had great luck past 5-6 years spray painting the top half with 2 coats . Even when new. Really protects the surface from breaking down. Course is in May - Oct and stickiness of the plastic is next to nothing when removed in Oct. Quick hang and spray in spring and right back out there. Think I am 4th year on many of them this way
  3. I would think that the opportunity to say that you bought the boat of legendary m4 icon Laz has to be worth a serious premium on price.
  4. Fluorescent duck tape on each side
  5. Awesome Laz ! Can't wait , one of the best days of the year, excited to get back at it. Always great to see current and meet new Ontario ski friends... Make sure JMac orders a nice day for the lake...
  6. Come ski the Ibprofuen Open early June at McClintocks ... great fun day for the 35+ crew. 2021will be year 3. Rob, Go Home Lake up by Bala...
  7. Would love some input please. Have a 99 Malibu Sportster that has been just a dream to own for the past 21 years. Breaks my heart to even think that I am considering looking for new boat. My challenge is our course is in an phenomenal location but requires a very very narrow "walk thru" entry of rock outcropping protecting our paradise. The sportster specs of 1999 say that draft is 14" on the sportster series. Our entry has some challenges but always very doable getting into the bay with only one or two weekends every couple years being an issue. Ski pal has a 95 response that is reported as 16" draft for response series. That said, another friend has a 2005 ski nautique that is reported to be 22" draft. No question that mine is the shallowest of the three and likely 2" better than the response.....but not 8" shallower than the nautique. All three of us have little issues when careful. However with all the new boats at 22" it appears ... should I be concerned? Is it possible that draft measurements prior to 2000 were different?? I get that the sportster is a smaller boat, but is what is good for a 95 response or a 05 nautique should have same draft issues as a 2018-2020 prostar or TXI? or Nautique 200 ?? I don't see an 8" difference between what I have now(or pals 95 response) , and a new boat considering the 2005 SN works just fine? I believe draft is measured from average waterline to bottom of prop? referring to the amount of water needed to clear the bottom?
  8. Surprisingly very tropical 70F. Just perfect. Shorts only needed
  9. Just an outstanding day for what seemed like Southern Ontario’s first day of actual sun and summer. Big thanks to OWSA and McClintocks for making it happen. We had 25 - 35yr plus skiers out. At least a third to half were newbies to enjoy the day and atmosphere. Highlights were all the way from Harold’s 1@41 to a 70 something ripping the course on a pair of 1960s SeaGliders Just awesome conditions for early season here and a few aches today appropriately taken care of via tournament T slogan.
  10. We had my little guy behind the boat early into 3 yrs old, real two skis, Connelly cadets with the plastic bar but hanging onto handle for real, not attached to skis. Thought I was quite resourceful and it was easy , comfortable for kid and the real ski sensation.... PADDLEBOARD.... kid in water deep water position dad lying on stomach on paddle board holding second rope just slightly shorter than kid line. Picture dad on right side of kid with rope in right hand extended. Rope is tracking on the left side of the tip of paddleboard so the board wants to angle off right , not into kids path. Left hand on kids right heel. Boat takes off , only has to go very slow and your left hand keeps skis in position so they don’t get dragged out the front , nor do the fall on butt as skis stay underneath them. Once on plane , you slowly let go and just keep hand close for support. Once up and balanced kids ha e no issues with the direct contact with boat.. then once it’s time for support bar to go , it’s just a simple hand on butt to get balance point. No expensive trainers or boards required. Progression process was very quick and comfort of being beside him was great for kid.....and nervous mom.
  11. Curious about firebird lake. Love some direction. Staying up the road for sales meeting Sunday 25th thru 27th. Curious if 1) it’s possible to get a set there and 2) what are chances they have any kind of ski that I could use. Solid short line course skier just looking for some exercise Sunday afternoon and/or Tuesday afternoon? Not interested in travelling with ski this time. Been a long winter and love to stretch the arms if possible. Thanks
  12. Have had a great 19 yr experience with our insta-slalom. Surprisingly the rope mainline has lasted us 19 yrs. Quite amazing and PPass gets perfect times past 3 years since installing in boat. Quite dark and cool water 5ft under surface seems to limit UV and have had no stretching. It's in for May and out in October and we are lucky water levels change minimally. Very sheltered area but one thing that has worked very well in past 5 years is dropping a cement block in middle of course with a hole drilled thru the A section(boat gate) centre for a rope. Keeps it straight during mild breeze.
  13. First time poster and have to offer my 2 cents here as it is my business with 19yrs of experience. Industry has changed a ton over that time. Horizontal deck/dock coatings can always pose a potential challenges as they are difficult surfaces. A coating can last 10-20 years+ on a vertical but if surface preparation, application, and some potential protective maintenance are not followed you can cause yourself some grief on horizontals. The new "resurfacing products" by various companies will do as they were intended, no question, you just have to be aware of the process and expectations. Just as a bit of information, EVERY paint company has negative reviews of their products. We make numerous #1 rated products that you'll find poor experiences on line. You just never hear about the real happy ones we talk to after the fact. When things go wrong for a customer after the physical investment of the work the internet in todays age is an ideal venting place. Unfortunately the positives don't get reported and never get spread socially like the bad ones. Companies make and sell these things by the 100,000's of gallons and if any major retailer keeps them on the shelf, it is a legitimate product. Hardware stores don't sell products if they are known to consistently fail. Attached are some pictures of a work friend who also happens to be on same lake as me. His dock takes the worst of Canadian winter and loads of heat in summer. Working on three winters of perfection now with a "Restoration" type product of ours. Another very close ski pal put it on his deck last winter and as you will see the grey is perfect under similar conditions and he has had 3 years on his deck in the city without issue. They won't hold your deck up if falling down but will certainly offer protection for what they are intended to do. Happy to provide any individual advice and recommendations on any coatings products if you'd like to reach out individually. Just don't feel comfortable offering product or company advice in a public setting.
