  1. I would recommend Boat US/GEICO. Underwriters tend to rotate through the recreational marine insurance market as the market hardens and softens, but the Boat US Program has managed to be successful in spite of the up and downs of the market. Their premiums tend to be lower as well due to high underwriting standards and the fact that they write business directly with the consumer (no broker involved).
  2. Last spring the 343 in my 196 was doing something similar. Changed everything. Turned out to be the Cap, something that I had just recently replaced.
  3. Thank you for doing the podcasts. I listen religiously. I would love to hear more on how each of you recommend organizing your training sets to maximize performance. When to start skiing up the line v. volume sets etc.
  4. Eden Ski Lake and Sanibel/Captiva FLA is a good combination
  5. has anyone tried one with the Reflex release?
  6. I am using the reflex white cuff with the thin reflex liner— been happy with it. Which intuition are you using?
  7. How about a discussion about volume v. intensity in training and how to use different training styles through the course of a season.
  8. Sorry to hear about your injury. As noted above, I tore mine skiing in July 2016. I had it surgically repaired within a couple of days of the incident. Do the PT aggressively and you will be physically ready to ski in the Spring. For me overcoming the mental hurdles ( having the confidence to ski aggressively again) was a bigger challenge than the physical aspect. This year I finally jumped that hurdle and have skied a full season with confidence. My ankle will never feel exactly the same again, but I don’t notice when I am skiing. Good luck and keep us posted.
  9. Contact the insurance company ASAP. Let them deal with it and everything that comes with including salvage pollution concerns, etc. Start shopping for a new boat. This is why you pay your premium.
  10. I am four years out from the same injury. Sorry to hear about yours. Religious participation in PT is the key. If you want to keep the pounds off, use the crutches the whole time rather than the scooter. That’s what I did. I literally crutched everywhere, upstairs, downstairs, through the airport, etc. terrific workout. With religious participation in PT, I was physically back in 6-9 months. It took another two years before for me to get back mentally in relation to water skiing, but taking it slow was worth it. The mental come back in snow skiing and other sports was faster. Good luck and stay positive.
  11. Your personal umbrella may or may not kick in above the limit of your boat policy. Likely depends on whether there is a watercraft exclusion or not. How the boat is titled may also have an impact. If applicable, that is the most cost effective means to secure coverage above the limit of the boat policy. You can also probably secure an excess policy on your boat alone. Your broker should have some answers and options.
  12. In my case, what I learned after the fact was that the retailer sent me the super shell plate for the regular boot. This was hard to identify out of the box.
  13. My bet is that the plate or the boot is the wrong size for one or the other or vice versa. When I switched to the reflex, the retailer sent me the wrong plate. I did not know the difference and the set up looked ok on land. Then when I tried to ski it, I got up turned 1 ball and pre released toe first, I then did it again. Then I called the retailer, got the right plate, re installed and it worked fine.
  14. Stiletto great memories Jason Paredes gave/sold me like $50 an old EP Stiletto when I was stalling out at 15/36 in college. He was the coach. This was maybe 1993 or 1994 Pushed me mostly through -22 then for some reason it did not work for me anymore and I went back to my Kidder. Felt like I could push the Kidder around on my own betterFunny part is I stopped skiing for darn near 20 years and when I came back I asked my parents if my ski stuff was still in the basement of their house where I left it. My Dad said sure. So I found the kidder rode it and then went to look for the Stilletto. My Dad told me that he cut it up with the Sawzall and put it in curbside recycling.. Great memories Waiting for the video.
  15. Army Corps of Engineers will have jurisdiction for waters that are free flowing to the ocean up to the historical mean high water mark. The California Delta is a prime example. Inland lakes can be governed by a whole host of different entities. Lake Berryessa, for instance, is the Federal Bureau of Reclamation. Shasta is the National Forest Service once you get below the mean high water mark. Determining the entity responsible for the lake below the high water mark and approaching them is the key.
