  1. I have never met Zack but he seems like an amazing person. The fact that he can be so upbeat and smiling through all of this is a true testament to his character
  2. Well, been back skiing since May (one year after injury) and although don't think the knee will ever get completely back to where it was at age 55, it does not bother me on the slalom ski. Now, not sure that I can get the courage back up to start barefooting again. What about others on the forum - anyone barefooting after an ACL repair?
  3. Unfortunately, first barefoot run of the season and hit a piece of wood in the water. Luckily was wearing barefoot shoes but injured my knee. Got in the boat and the knee hyperextended - damn did that hurt! To complicate matters, a clot formed behind the knee the next day. MRI showed a complete tear of the ACL and tear of both meniscus. Repair surgery scheduled about a week from now. Going to be long summer :(
  4. I use this mount and it works great: https://www.brlsmounts.com/
  5. A 15+ year old photo of doing a backwards run on the boom. Don't get to do enough backward runs now :)
  6. For those not familiar with the terms/technology involved, here is a quick primer: Augmented Reality (AR) is where images are projected into your real world visual environment (think Pokeman Go). The most prevalent wearable AR headsets are the Microsoft Hololens and the Epson Moverio and they are far from being rugged enough for waterski use. However, AR is definitely the technology approach for this type of application. This compares to Virtual Reality (VR) where the entire visual field of view is virtual - there is no part of the user's real-world environment that is visible. This is devices such as Google Cardboard, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear and Hive. I think that if JLP wants to be successful with this a partnership with Microsoft would awesome.
  7. For longline barefooting, the tower is a must. Just purchased a promo Malibu Response TXI and only looked at boats that came with a tower installed.
  8. Looking for some advice. I previously owned a Malibu Response LX that had a closed cooling system. I live in NC and so at the end of every season I would simply treat the gas, detach the battery and put the boat in my garage (which always stays well above freezing) from December thru February. Now I have a 2016 Response TXI that does not have a closed cooling system. Is there anything that I should consider doing differently with this boat when putting it away for the winter?
  9. I am looking at getting a new ski for my wife. She has been skiing on an HO Esprit 64 inch with double wrap bindings for the last 20 years. Not skiing the course, just free skiing. The two skis that I was considering for her are: * 65 inch HO Women's CX with double X-Max bindings * 65 inch Radar Lyric with double Lyric bindings Any thoughts/recommendations on these two skis?
  10. Still go footing every weekend and have been for 20 years. Normal routine is that I do a few footing runs and then the wife and I take turns doing slalom. Working on my footing surface turns right now. Got the back-to-front down just fine but the front-to-back is coming along slowly
  11. Definitely barefooting - normal routine is to get a few barefoot runs in first thing in the morning before even getting on the slalom ski. Father time clock is ticking - figure I only have a few years left to get my surface turns down pat :)
  12. Bill Docherty - Married, 47 years old, 2 kids (13 and 10). Live in Granite Falls, NC (north of Charlotte) and ski on Lake Hickory - house on lake. We have a Malibu Response LX 2003 and prior to that we owned a Mastercraft 205. Wife and I both spend our time free skiing and I also do a good amount of barefooting. Did not start skiing until my early 20's and now playing catch-up :) Recently moved from skiing a ten-year old HO CDX ski to a new Radar Senate and love the ski. Hoping to get into the course for the first time next year
  13. I bought a 2003 Malibu Response LX back at the end of 2003 (used one year as a promo boat). The boat has a closed cooling system. The promo boat owner indicated it was a mixup when the boat was ordered and that the boat had never been used in anything other than fresh water and all indications were he was speaking the truth. We have had the boat now for 10 years and always used in fresh water lakes. Just reinforcing what others stated earlier - just because the boat has a closed cooling system does not automatically mean it was used in salt water.
  14. 2003 Malibu Response LX. 410 Hours and well cared for. Love that boat :)
