The Governor of California is trying to eliminate the Department of Boating and Waterways even though the legislature rejected the proposal earlier in the spring. This threat is considered to be the most serious yet and most likely to be successful.
The proposal for elimination goes to the State Senate Subcommittee #2 on May 7 so time is SHORT. The Subcommittee has only three members:
Senator Joe Simitian, D, Palo Alto, http://www.senatorsimitian.com/
Senator John Benoit, R, Palm Desert, http://cssrc.us/web/37/default.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
Senator Alan Lowenthal, D, Long Beach, http://dist27.casen.govoffice.com/
Important, RBOC and the Boating Coalition need an email from you and your organization by this Friday, May 1, 2009 supporting this letter so your organization can be included on this letter.
Email your support or comments and suggestions to RBOC's representative in Sacramento:
Obviously, if you are in one of these three Senators' district, your direct contact would be very important, they like constituents best!!!
And of course continue contacting the Governor and your state Assemblymembers and Senators.
I know we are all busy or crazy busy with summer coming but losing the Department will make all of our lives more difficult, our programs more difficult to sustain and boating less safe!
And please forward this to all of your staff any other boaters, boating dealers, manufacturers, etc., that you know. We do not want to lose this time after all the times we have succeeded!
