2007 196 No Hydrogate?

Yes it was an option.  It can be added.   I bought my 2007 used from a dealer and had them add the hydrogate and Zero off at the time of purchase.  Was definitely worth adding in my opinion.

I agree with @BKistler about needing the hydrogate for tricks.  I had a 2007  196 that was a promo boat at the time.  Lifting the hydrogate allows the stern to run a little deeper for a larger and arguably smoother wake.  That is good for trick skiers.  If all you pull is slalom and have no plans to ever pull trick skiers, the fixed plate (non-adjustable gate) at the back of the boat is fine.

It should have a fixed plate on the transom that is the same as having the hydro gate in the engaged position.  If your slalom only your good to go.
