South Padre Island Texas

I'm going to be on South Padre Island in a few weeks. Is anyone aware of any private ski lakes in the area I could visit? I didn't find much on Google.

Since SPI is an island (on the ocean) the wind is non stop. And no one skis. But a beautiful laid back area. We have a beach condo down there. PM me if you have any questions about SPI.

I believe there used to be a 3E club in Corpus Christi which isn't too far from SPI. However, I'm not sure it still exists.

You know its the off season when I'm telling a story like this - back in my 20's when I was just learning the course a friend and I went down to a tournament outside Corpus Christi. From what I remember the tournament was on a nasty brackish river that fed into the Gulf. Locals told us that they skied and also fished for Gulf redfish off the starting dock.

Conditions were beyond bad - not only a bad wind but huge rolling swells. One by one everyone went down on their opener including all of the top skiers. My friend who had never run 28(36) somehow managed to run his 22 (first person to complete a pass) then fall around 1 ball on his 28. He ended up winning the tournament and taking home a huge trophy.

His technique? "I'm young and if I get hurt I'm still drunk from last night".

I've never skied in the area since then.

Oh, and FWIW Corpus is almost 200 miles from SPI. If anyone does go down to SPI the SpaceX facility is nuts. We drove by there and you can literally get within 150 feet of the rockets. Absolutely no visible security - just crazy.

I laughed when I read that Corpus "isn't too far" from SPI. I guess it's closer than San Antonio or Houston, but I wouldn't describe it as not too far.
