Chelsea Mills joined the 39 off club today. She ran 1@41 off at Boris Laval's tournament this morning. Round 1. Pretty impressive considering she didn't even learn to ski until the age of 26. Congratulations Chelsea!!

She has broken the mold for many future skiers, and continues to break new ground! Starting the sport so late, I don’t think there’s ever been anyone that has taken their skiing as far in such a short time, as this girl!

I recall first seeing Chelsea at a Sawmill (IN) tournament about 8-9 years ago. Running mid 32 off, if my memory serves me correctly. Tremendous accomplishment, considering her late start in the sport.

Another random fact about Chelsea Mills: I'm 90% sure she grew up in Wellesley MA -- the next town over from our slalom courses in Natick. But she didn't even know about that, and learned slalom later! This summer, though, she did ski a set in Natick, and I was told she got 5 @ -39.

The next few year's pro tours could be AWESOME on the women's side. Regina might still be the literal translation of her name (queen), but there are serious challengers in Whitney, Chelsea, and Jamie.

P.S. Seeing Karina Nowlan's name makes me sad. She seemed awesome in so many ways. Hope she's doing well out there somewhere!

@Than_Bogan I don’t get it. I grew up next to Wellesley in Needham, yet I’ll never ski remotely as well as Chelsea. What gives? There must be something more to it.

Actually, Chelsea learned to ski in summer camp in Maine. She says she was first in line every day to get the best water.

@dleenhouts I’ve never skied either lake, but I suck as well. Must be something else. I’ve surfed in Maine, but never skied there like she did. Could that be her secret weapon?

Great episode @Luzz . I liked what she had to say in regards to safe sport and those whining about taking a short course. Not all appears as it is… the course is in place to assist in identifying certain situations. This isn’t about the adults that take the course… it’s for the young athletes.
