Baller_ lpskier Posted October 18, 2021 Baller_ Share Posted October 18, 2021 I just started riding a Denali C85 with a CG fin. The wing is unusually low relative to the bottom of the ski, too low to use normal wing angle gages. I’ve been using the shaft of my calipers as a spacer (which works fine but is cumbersome and you can’t put a gauge on both sides of the fin while tightening the wing screws without two sets of calipers and four hands). A few days ago I saw a tool that goes over and sits flush on the wing and takes up enough space between the wing and the bottom to be able to use a normal wing angle gauge. The top of this spacer tool is parallel with the the top and bottom of the wing, so the angle of the tool relative to the ski is the same as the wing. The tool is a rectangular piece of aluminum with four cut outs to go over the wing and provide four different spacings between the wing and the bottom. It is not the tool that allows you to measure fin depth without removing the wing. Anyone know where to find such a thing? It’s not available from Denali or SkiDoc. Baller aupatking Posted October 18, 2021 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2021 Any parallel spacer works. I use one that I think is about 1/2 inch wide and can be used on both sides, but is not terribly easy to do both sides at the same time, as mentioned. Baller S1Pitts Posted October 18, 2021 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2021 Another source here-Link I had this guy add the two bumps to go against the bottom of the ski when I was on the C-65. The tail bottom has a fair amount of rocker on it so the 1st gen gauges rocked on the bottom. I don't know about the C 75/ C 85 tails but something to check. Baller ToddA Posted October 18, 2021 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2021 @lpskier I just went to a hardware store, and bought a 6" (1/2" wide) piece of aluminum stock, and use that as a spacer between the ski and my wing angle guages. Inexpensive and works great.
Baller RGilmore Posted October 18, 2021 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2021 Depending on your angle gauge set, you can add two together and you won't need a spacer. For example, if you're looking for 9*, a 4* and a 5* will stack to get that. An 11* and reversed-4* will get you 7* (a common Denali setting). You just have to get creative. Baller Stevie Boy Posted October 18, 2021 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2021 So here,s a idea, three bits of material the thickness of your fin, one to go either side and a piece to act as a spacer rivet the three pieces together and you have wing angle gauge that does both sides at once. Just a Idea
Baller_ lpskier Posted October 18, 2021 Author Baller_ Share Posted October 18, 2021 @Horton I just checked their website and don’t see it. Do you have a link? If I’d asked the question Saturday, I could have gone to their booth at Worlds. Timing is everything! Lpskier
jim_s
If you're a geek, and have a 3D printer (or know a geek with a 3D printer...). https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2018229. (and if you're not a geek, and don't know any geeks, I could be convinced to print what you need.) (Looks like the ones listed on SIA are the same ones listed on the Thingiverse site, the guy is just offering to print them for $10.)
Baller_ lpskier Posted October 19, 2021 Author Baller_ Share Posted October 19, 2021 A friend is printing me some oversized angle gauges. I’d still buy a wing thingy if I could find one. Lpskier
Baller jercrane Posted October 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted October 19, 2021 The FM wing angle gauges work on Denali CG fin with no spacers https://fluidmotionsports.com/collections/products-accessories/products/fm-angle-gauge They are Huge! Site says they are out of stock on a bunch of angles but it's way out of date. Just contact them and I'm sure they will have what you need. Baller_ lpskier Posted October 19, 2021 Author Baller_ Share Posted October 19, 2021 @BobF Thanks! That’s what I’m looking for but I don’t want to buy the gauges. I already have three sets of gauges. Lpskier
Baller keithh2oskier Posted October 19, 2021 Baller Share Posted October 19, 2021 Maybe swing by the hardware store and see if you can find a 1" piece of aluminum square stock or something that could work.
jim_s
If the 'wing thingy' that @lpskier is referring to is not available for purchase, if somebody has one and can tell me the spacing on those slots (ie, the distance between the outer edge of the rectangle, and each of the 4 slot outer edges), I can throw together a quick 3D-printable design. (I'm not trying to cut into anyone's sales/profits, and I have no financial interest or incentive to design one, but if they're useful and not easily obtainable, I'm happy to put a printable design together and make it freely available, simply for the utility of it.)
