maxpower220
I know that some people in the past posted up about handles or nets for handles to prevent injuries. I did a search here, on Overtons, Perfski and can't find any info. Can someone post a link to where I could purchase a safety net or safety handle for skiing? Thanks. Baller_ MISkier Posted March 23, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted March 23, 2020 Try this: https://www.miamiskinautiques.com/Fluid-Motion-Handle-Guard-B2-p/fm-handle-guard-b2.htm The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.

Baller Jmoski Posted March 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2020 In-tow will add a safety bar to any handle they make: http://www.intowonline.com/viewitem.php?productid=
Baller dbutcher Posted March 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2020 You can also make one yourself with some strong plastic mesh (or similar material), a grommet tool, and zip ties.
Baller igkya Posted March 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2020 And let's not forget @Thomas Wayne who made handle guards and then just disappeared.
Baller Dacon62 Posted March 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2020 Killer deal now that the exchange rate is favoring my friends south of me. https://fluidmotionsports.com/collections/parts/products/fm-handle-guard
Baller eleeski Posted March 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2020 Or you can just splice a cross line to block the open space in the Vee. Cheap and easy. Maybe not as safe as a full guard but surprisingly effective at keeping arms and heads out of the handle. Eric
Baller BraceMaker Posted March 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2020 @igkya now you have to throw salt over your shoulder and turn three times left then for measure your fin depth or someone's going to mail you a cease and desist.
Baller DaveD Posted March 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 23, 2020 I've seen one made out of duct tape. It also adds character.

Baller Dacon62 Posted March 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 24, 2020 @skialex yours is a less expensive, functional, minimalistic version. I like it but many of us don’t have the talent to do that but we know our way around a zap strap or duct tape if needed. Here’s mine. Just coming out of 1 ball. Isolation crazy setting in. Baller skialex Posted March 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 24, 2020 @Dacon62 wow this stacked position looks great! ? was thinking of adding this to my workouts too. Thinking of putting my wife spaying water with a sprinkling can as an addition to this.

maxpower220
Ordered one from Miami Nautiques with a new rope and handle. Thanks for the inputs and links. I don't have any extra time to figure out how to make one, it's easier just to buy. Plus the economy needs my money right now.
Baller pregom Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 I'm curious to see if a mesh for a lacrosse stick could be used to make a handle guard. I may try it.
Baller dbutcher Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 It doesn't have to be mesh. It just has to be tough. I've cut pieces from a flexible plastic tub (or lid) that worked just fine. Round or sand the edges though so they won't cut you or things. It's best if there is plastic tubing on the V ropes of the handle to prevent wear from the grommets or zip ties.
Baller Roger Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 I have the FM guard on my handle. Another thing I do to mitigate the possibility of an arm or head intrusion is to hold onto the handle in a fall until the boat takes it from me. Baller skialex Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 I tend to get up with the arms very stretched forward and I hate the feeling of the zip ties banging on the edge of my ski. At least if you are using a carbon handle (tubed rope) you can open small holes on the tube and pass the zip ties between the tube and the rope. I have done that.. works much better than over the tube. Not very easy but doable without hurting the rope.
Baller Andre Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 I made my own 5-6 years ago...very easy and lots of threads here. Only thing i could had is to cut your zip ties with a nail clipper.Ends will be round and blunt and NOT razor blades waiting to cut someone open. My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
Baller eleeski Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 Replace the zip ties with shoelace. Easy, durable and soft. A good project while on lockdown. Eric
Baller pregom Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 @dbutcher - I don't know if I agree with you. A handle that bounces around in a fall is very unpredictable. I think I would prefer to have "softness" all around as much as possible, with no zip ties or hard plastic that could cause cuts and bruises. @eleeski's shoe laces instead of zip ties seems a good idea to me. Baller Dacon62 Posted March 25, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 25, 2020 Another benefit of the plastic guard is the rope doesn’t get twisted up.

Cfootin
We require handle guards at our tournaments. I’ve seen several home made guards that work. But I have to say I see a bunch of guards made with duct tape and have a lot of advantages. 1. Inexpensive 2. Light weight. 3. Don’t hold water. 4. Very customizable. How large of an opening. Color. 6. Strong and easy to repair.
maxpower220
I got the new rope, handle, and guard. My wife is happy, my son likes it (even though he doesn't understand what it is really for), and it does not interfere in my skiing. I did notice that the handle will "fly" a little now when I release it. Thanks for the input.

Baller Andre Posted June 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2020 I know i'm repeating myself but use the nail clipper to cut ty wraps never wire cutter as they becomes VERY VERY sharp and will slice open a forearm like butter, Also while sitting in between passes,i make sure they are pointing inward and turn them if not. Baller Jetsetr Posted June 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2020 You can use a razor blade to cut the zip tie tail as well...wish I had a dollar for every time I sliced my hand, finger or wrists working on aircraft engines because mechanics were too lazy to trim the zip ties. Baller ScottScott Posted June 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2020 Got my new masterline handle recently and put my guard on right away. Baller Andre Posted June 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2020 Looking great! How do you tie up the ends? ...and why do i keep using zip ties? My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
Baller bishop8950 Posted June 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2020 Yep, I am going back to this as well. Although it’s unlikely and there is risk everywhere, these guards eliminate the risk of a head through.
Baller ScottScott Posted June 21, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 21, 2020 @Andre I started stringing at bottom of v, leaving a couple inches. Then went up one side, back down, up the other side and back down leaving the 2 ends at bottom of v. Double knot and super glue to bond it together.
