Baller Bill22 Posted June 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 23, 2020 @lpskier is there any talk of a 65" ski for us slim guys? I guess you're the official spokesperson for this ski on BOS. :)
Baller Orlando76 Posted June 23, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 23, 2020 @Bill22 as of now there won’t be a 65” nor was there ever an intention of one. Im speculating 68” won’t be ready for 6 weeks or so. Molds not ready yet.
Baller Bill22 Posted June 24, 2020 Baller Share Posted June 24, 2020 Ask KLP what is the 66” weight range at 32mph. Skier skill level 22off to 28off.
Baller_ lpskier Posted June 24, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted June 24, 2020 @Bill22 i asked Kris your question last night. While @Orlando76 is correct that a 65 will not be in the product line due to lack of demand, KLP will custom make a 65 for you. Lpskier

Baller RGilmore Posted July 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2020 As has been pointed out by others, this is not the first foray into ski manufacturing for Kris LaPoint. In fact, he was building skis as far back as the 1970s, when he acquired the old Hexcel molds and laid up slalom skis in his garage. They were white, with a Psychadelic "LaPoint" silk-screened on the top - called the "Ajax". They had a honeycomb aluminum core and could hardly hold a screw, so the bindings were adjusted with shoelaces running through eyelets in the rubber wraps. I haven't been able to find an image of that early LaPoint ski, but here's a photo of the old Hexcel slalom, complete with lace-up bindings. Baller Mortyski Posted July 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2020 @RGilmore thanks for the photo....it reminds me of the Hexcel snow skis I once had. Hexcel advertised their snow skis by bending them in a loop without breaking them. I skied on the 210 cm slalom snow skis for a couple of years and ended up breaking them when they fell off the car in the ski rack onto the road at 60 mph. Memo to self after that...check your friend's ski rack to make sure it's securely fastened!
Baller ALPJr Posted July 28, 2020 Author Baller Share Posted July 28, 2020 @lpskier do you have any updates, anyone on a 68” yet? Any oldsters skiing a 32 or 30 mph on one?
Baller jimbrake Posted July 28, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2020 I used to work in the service department at a ski shop in Cupertino, CA in the '70s and '80s and had to mount Hexcels. By far the biggest PITA of any ski to mount with special epoxy and procedures. Hexcels skied "OK", but not better than the other American, Austrian, French, German, and Italian brands. Super light, but that doesn't mean better (sorry Goode). I did buy a Hexcel slalom at a ski swap (oddly enough at the Marine World pro tournament in Redwood City) because Kris skied on one and it looked cool. Could not get that ski to work. At all. But then I had none clue as to how to "tune" a ski, so it might've been great if had just moved my bindings around.
Baller_ lpskier Posted July 29, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted July 29, 2020 @ALPJr Nope. I’ve been out of Florida for 45 days so I’m a little out of the loop. I’ll see KLP at Nationals next week and get an update. Lpskier

Baller ballsohard Posted July 30, 2020 Baller Share Posted July 30, 2020 @rico I've heard that KLP makes skis that are designed to turn all 6 buoys, due to this you shouldn't pay much attention to this ski.

Baller Orlando76 Posted September 2, 2020 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2020 @ALPJr nope, still no 68”. Molds were made 1 at a time, the 68” mold still being manufactured. Not sure why such a hold up.

Baller Orlando76 Posted September 2, 2020 Baller Share Posted September 2, 2020 No Kris says there’s a lot of big skiers out there. He says more demand for 68 than 65. I would’ve thought opposite.
Baller_ lpskier Posted September 3, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted September 3, 2020 Actually, KLP now has the 68 mold but won’t make any skis until he’s back from out west. @The_MS Further west than you. @bikesrus yes. Right about that far west. Where are you and I’ll see if they will be in your neighborhood. Lpskier
Administrators Horton Posted October 15, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 15, 2020 I am rewatching some of the Malibu and Swiss Pro. Cole McCormick makes that ski look really good. I saw one for the first time a few weeks ago. Very interesting. Very wide under the bindings. Baller_ MISkier Posted October 15, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted October 15, 2020 @Horton, I think the Mapple skis had that same characteristic. One of my ski buddies has a Mapple now and has been trying skis this fall. He has been planning to try the Lapoint and has, all along, said it is likely the ski he will get. He favors the wider ski and was assessing the skis he tried against the width of his Mapple. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
