Baller Andre Posted December 16, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 16, 2019 Coolest BOS thread! These days anyway. My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted December 17, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted December 17, 2019 Today we wrestled the old steering cable out. By the condition of the jacket, I’d guess this boat needed some “arm-strong” steering.

Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted December 18, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted December 18, 2019 @Horton I thought you told me you paid Richard to haul it off!! Lol!! If I did not do this for a living I would find it fun!! Now a days I dream of D-8 Caterpillar smashing em flat and getting pushed into the landfill... I love the smell of fiberglass getting crunched in the morning... ..it smells like Victory!
Baller Timr71 Posted December 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 18, 2019 I love this thread too. It has a lot of things that I like including restoring an old boat to new glory. The SB has such great lines and is very similar to my own Ski Centurion Falcon with the sloped nose. Keep the pics coming.

Baller_ RichardDoane Posted December 20, 2019 Author Baller_ Share Posted December 20, 2019 The original trailer was sold off long ago. One of my boating friends sold me a paperless trailer for $500. It used to have a 26’ fishing boat on it. We’re trimming the tongue and re-bunking it for Dr. Jack’s SB.
Baller bishop8950 Posted December 20, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 20, 2019 @RichardDoane please keep the pics coming. Also, I hope you take it for a ski at Broho when you get her done. Need pics of that as well!

Baller_ RichardDoane Posted January 7, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted January 7, 2020 The last 2 weeks got busy with holidays, and other stuff. But we’ve been slowly making the trailer fit this boat.
Baller Kevin89MC Posted January 8, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 8, 2020 Very nice work on the boat, and that trailer. Where did you get the trailer bunk hardware if you don't mind me asking? Love the adjust-ability factor. I'm looking at an old Malibu with no trailer, if it's still available in the spring, I might go get it. Would then need to find a trailer that is at least close that I can modify like you did. Thanks, Kevin
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted January 8, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted January 8, 2020 @Kevin89MC brackets/u-bolts/bunk carpet all came from different vendors off of amazon. there's a big difference in bunk carpet quality, some stuff was so thin I sent it back. once the boat floats off we'll adjust the bunks/brackets to be a little more even and then tack weld. laying underneath with the boat in the way was a hassle, but not that difficult. floor jack and some blocking held the boat where we wanted it, and then we fit the bunks up to the boat. make sure you position bunks not to damage the PP paddle wheel
Baller 503Kento Posted January 10, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 10, 2020 @RichardDoane What carpet did you use for the bunks? I need to recarpet my bunks for my 85 Centurion. I’d like to get your recommendation. Thanks Get high, Get fast, and do some good work.
Baller DavidN Posted January 10, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 10, 2020 @503Kento I redid the bunks of my boat lift a couple weeks ago and used black 18oz bunk carpet I got off eBay. Excellent product! Far superior to the original carpet I removed from the bunks. 202713432128 is the article # on eBay, “boatcarpetsales” was the vendor. Baller_ RichardDoane Posted January 10, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted January 10, 2020 This week was installing the replacement steering cable. But before hooking every thing up, the rudder needed to be dropped out and lubed.
Baller thager Posted January 11, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 11, 2020 Now you need an ACME prop!
Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted January 11, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted January 11, 2020 @thager is right. Unless you are trying to keep the boat as original as practical, a 4 blade prop will make a big improvement both the wake/rooster tail and holeshot. If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Baller thager Posted January 11, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 11, 2020 There are some really good 3 blades to consider from ACME as well.

Baller_ RichardDoane Posted January 11, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted January 11, 2020 @thager yes, as soon as we can run that boat to verify transmission function, we’ll re-prop to 4 blade and then set up the PP system @Bruce_Butterfield we had good results years ago with OJ 4 blade props on the 92 MC
Baller ALPJr Posted January 12, 2020 Baller Share Posted January 12, 2020 An OJ 454 4 blade on our 92 was a great improvement. Eric at OJ knows his props.
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted January 25, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted January 25, 2020 We’re going to need a decent driver seat in a couple weeks when we head to the the lake to test the trans and run the engine hard for the first time. Old seat headed off to the upholstery shop this week. And of course it will have electric seat heat kits.
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted January 26, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted January 26, 2020 Friday afternoon I had a little time to set up the starboard muffler and exhaust hoses now that the steering cable clamp is finished. Baller MidMOSkier Posted March 31, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 31, 2020 @RichardDoane Great job with the boat so far - I look forward to future updates. The red gelcoat is stunning. I'm in the process of restoring an 89 Brendella with a missing gas tank. Would you be able to measure the rough dimensions of yours? I can gauge what will probably fit just based on the space, but having the OEM size would be nice while I try to find a new one.
Baller Zman Posted March 31, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 31, 2020 @MidMOSkier I helped my ski partner install a new gas tank, fuel line, pump and carb in his 1989 Ski Brendella last fall. We replaced his old aluminum tank with a 19 gallon poly tank that was almost an exact replacement. Most importantly, the connections were in the same place, including the fill spout, top and center. If you would like, I can get the details for purchasing the poly tank. I think it was about 2 bills, level sensor included.
Baller_ DW Posted March 31, 2020 Baller_ Share Posted March 31, 2020 @MidMOSkier - good chance you can find a tank made by 'Moeller', they are a major supplier of ski boat tanks. 'Great Lakes Skipper' might also have one that will slip in, they are an auction house the resells boat stuff. Most likely, either an old MC 190 or Malibu Echelon / Response tank will fit the hole. Baller KRoundy Posted March 31, 2020 Baller Share Posted March 31, 2020 @RichardDoane Was the boat accidentally in gear when you revved the engine? That shaft should not be moving unless you are in the water.
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted March 31, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted March 31, 2020 @KRoundy when we run boats on the hose I’ll spray the shaft/strut with wd40. That’s hopefully just a little transmission drag as the boat was in neutral. That’s why it needs a full throttle lake test as soon as possible. We don’t want to find a bad transmission after getting carried away with the interior.
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted March 31, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted March 31, 2020 @MidMOSkier that tank measures 11” high, 10” deep, and 47” long. @Horton told me that Dr Jack had replaced it at one time
Baller_ RichardDoane Posted March 31, 2020 Author Baller_ Share Posted March 31, 2020 Somehow the teak swim step got lost in translation, but thanks to @ToddA who donated a leftover.
