jercrane
Man I think it's going to be a really late start to our season up here in NH. Killing me. This was the view from our "dock" (which isn't in yet) on Monday. Average ice out date since 1978 on our lake is 4/16. Latest ever was 5/4. Making me think I might need to get on a plane if this drags into May.
powbmps
Where in NH are you? Cold tomorrow, but 60's after that. I'm being optimistic, and thinking the ice will break up by next Monday ;). Itching to break out the drysuit!
Baller Sethro Posted April 17, 2019 Baller Share Posted April 17, 2019 I feel your pain. Latest start for me here in NW Illinois in 20+ years due to harsh late winter weather and high water. But it was only about 4-6 weeks late in regards to the typical first outing. Water has to be manageable to get my track and dock installed so I can get my boat out of the boathouse. HighAltitude
I always think I have it bad in Colorado until I see a thread like this. Ice was off the lake in late March. Course went in about a week ago and got my first set in yesterday. Hope to ski some this weekend.
Baller vtjc Posted April 17, 2019 Baller Share Posted April 17, 2019 The ice went of Lake Iroquois in north western Vermont earlier in the week. I will be getting my boat out of storage the 27th. It was a great winter ski season in northern Vermont.
Booze
I hear you. But have faith. Last year I had hernia surgery and could not even touch a ski until mid May. It went on to be one of my best ski years ever.
Keith_Menard
But you still have some mountains open!
jercrane
Yeah the snow ski season was amazing this year in VT and NH. Still going strong And I expect the big resorts like Killington and Sugarbush to go into May this year. Got 38 days on the snow this year with a lot of powder days which is not the norm for around here. I am fully satisfied on the snow season and ready for the Lake! Baller adkh2oskier Posted April 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted April 18, 2019 Still ice on my lake but starting to break up, should be clear in a few more days, better than last year when it took until 5/2 to clear.
Baller Jmoski Posted April 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted April 18, 2019 Yep - bad start in Mass as well. Ice is out, I skied once two weeks ago, but too high water from several rainstorms and crappy weather in general has hosed us. This weekend is a rainout as well. Baller Than_Bogan Posted April 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted April 18, 2019 Hm, I think some of you are remembering past seasons through rose-colored glasses. In Natick MA, we got in a little open water skiing on each of the last two weekends, which is right on the average for getting started here. Yeah, the weather has sucked in April for the most part, but No, that is not unusual if you're dumb enough to live in New England.
Baller Jmoski Posted April 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted April 18, 2019 @Than_Bogan - actually the difference is last April Jason’s MC was in on the south pond so the high water level thwarting me at the keyhole wasn’t a factor!
powbmps
@jercrane Pleasant in New London.
jercrane
@Than_Bogan fair point but I think I got my first ski in 3rd week of April last year. Not even close this year. maybe just a week or two late this year I guess
aspski
I still have a few weeks to wait for Ghost lake just outside of Calgary. 1.5 months of -20 to -40 temps didn't help
Baller Than_Bogan Posted April 18, 2019 Baller Share Posted April 18, 2019 WOW. That is both beautiful and horrible at the same time!!

powbmps
Got the boat out of storage and skied Pleasant today. Glass, with all the ice drifted to one end. Water is 45. Not bad at all with the O'Neil Fluid Neo. Air was 64, so no brain freeze. @jercrane come on over!
jercrane
Went out on the paddle board in drysuit this morning. The ice in the middle of the lake is still weight bearing! I got off the board and stood on it. Ugh

Edbrazil
No ice-out yet on big Lake Winnipesaukee. It is right about the average time for ice-out. But, it has gone into May several times, with the latest on May 12th in 1888.

aspski
Open water reported in the middle of Ghost Lake, AB. Hopefully all broken up in the next week or so. That being said we're supposed to get 5-6" of snow tomorrow...
jercrane
Ice out official on 4/27 for Squam. Pretty nuts how fast it broke up over 1 week. Pumped! Got the new dock almost done. Finish it up and drop the lift in this weekend.
