Baller jdk99 Posted September 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 Replacing our SN200 mirror. Thinking of something wider than factory mirror. Suggestions much appreciated.

Baller scorban2 Posted September 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 I'm in the market as well, and ran across this on the Mastercraft forum. Anyone here had experience with this one? CIPA 180 degree mirror

Baller DanE Posted September 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 @scorban2 Angle is too wide on that one. At longer line lenghts than 35 off skier shows as a tiny dot in the view.
Baller Dacon62 Posted September 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 Had a PTM 140 on my last boat and loved it but my next boat is coming with the PTM 100(less $ than the 140 but narrower field of view). How’s that compare? Can you see a 15-28 off skier at the ball with the 100?
Baller jdk99 Posted September 14, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 Thanks all. PTM it is.
Baller m_pags Posted September 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 @Dacon62 you'll be upgrading to the 140. I have the 140 and a buddy had the 100. After driving my boat a couple of times he upgraded. With the 100 you can only see one buoy line well form my experience.
Baller Dacon62 Posted September 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 @m_pags same bracket for both? Just need to buy new mirror?
Baller m_pags Posted September 14, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 14, 2018 Yup. Same bracket so it makes it a little cheaper.
Baller Sethro Posted September 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 15, 2018 I bought the PTM 140 used at a very good price. I told myself I’d never pay what a new PTM 140 cost, but after owning it for a few years now I wouldn’t have a problem paying full price for the mirror. It’s really nice. Baller GregHind Posted September 15, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 15, 2018 The CIPA extreme is really good too. The cipa vision 180 makes the image too small for my liking.

Baller A_B Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 The standard mirror on my 2007 SN is plastic so is plastic on the larger motor a bad thing?
Baller oldjeep Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 Some people like the bling of a block of aluminum. Same mirror glass in both 140 models.
Baller LeonL Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 You know, I'm probably an odd ball. I've always had just stock OEM mirrors, and never looked back very much. A guy who skis at our lake got a PTM and the first time I drove his boat just by peripheral notice my full attention was drawn to the mirror. Here's where I'm kinda odd. The only time I use the mirror is when I'm tightening the line prior to pull the skier up and when I feel the skier fall or miss. I totally concentrate on keeping the boat where it's supposed to be. Now that may be due to not being as good a driver as some who can look back frequently and still keep a good line.
Baller BraceMaker Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 @LeonL big mirrors rock when you ski open water with 4 people in the boat. You actually get to see the skiing. It also helps you get in sync with your skier.
Baller oldjeep Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 @BraceMaker in open water you need to be watching forward. We use the mirror for starts, but otherwise looking where we are going. Spotter can watch skier, or when no spotter it is pretty apparent when you lose them. I tell my wife that she is in charge of not running the boat into anything, I'll take care of me.
Baller Dacon62 Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 Great for a wide angle view of any boats passing you from behind if your on a lake tour with the Mrs or just slowly cruising around.
Baller BraceMaker Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 @oldjeep obviously, but you also should have a good idea about your skier at all time. Ever gone to spin on public water only to turn the boat and find someone came up behind your skier? Or with our one boat that the mirror is behind the middle seat you need to know when the skier gets back to the wakes to set up the next shore line. You need to see both. Baller Keith_Menard Posted September 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 16, 2018 I deservedly get shit for this photo...but, this is the mirror in action:
Baller A_B Posted September 17, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 17, 2018 I mainly ski without an observer and do a fair amount of coaching with some aspiring skiers so the wider view would be nice. The bling of the billet does not seem worth the ka-ching...
Baller swc5150 Posted September 19, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 19, 2018 The plastic 140 would look and work great for your 200. We have the billet version, due to it matching all the other billet in our Prostar. No point in billet if everything else is chrome IMO.
Baller GregHind Posted September 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2018 Has anybody compared the ptm edge 140 vs cipa extreme? I bought a cipa vision 180 and don’t use it because the skier is smaller in it and I like to see the detail on 60ft and 75ft ropes we usually ski multiple kids at once on. I much prefer the cipa extreme all round than the cipa vision 180 for that reason It the PTM 140 image as large as the Extreme? Has anybody got direct experience with both? Baller oldjeep Posted September 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2018 Im a little surprised that nobody has come out with a mirror setup that is a camera and screen rather than an actual mirror. So that you could zoom to your desired field of vision. For what some of these afyer market mirrors cost it woukd certainly be doable.
Baller liquid d Posted September 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2018 Who's got their old regular mirror and bracket from the SN sitting in their garage they want to sell?
Baller Lieutenant Dan Posted September 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2018 @GregHind I have a Cipa Extreme which I’ve used for almost 15 years and also ski with others with the PTM 140. The Cipa is “serviceable”, ie you can set it up to see the entire width of the skier path but it is not necessarily a continuous side to side view. The PTM is clearly superior but you pay a premium for that improvement.
Baller Sethro Posted September 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2018 I've thrown this out there before, but I have the PTM billet mirror and bracket that I bought used. I'd trade for the black plastic mirror if anyone was so inclined. It's the only billet piece on my 98 Echelon...I think.
Baller GregHind Posted September 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2018 @Lieutenant Dan thank you. Which one gives the bigger picture of the skier. Is there a noticeable difference in the size of the skier in the mirror?
Baller skimtb Posted September 26, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2018 That is the negative to the PTM in my mind. I currently have an older cipa and the PTM both on the boat. The PTM definitely shows the skier being smaller. We call the cipa the “start mirror” and the PTM the skiing mirror... Pros/cons.
Baller A_B Posted September 27, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 27, 2018 I picked up a used like new 140 on eBay. Didn’t like the fact it was way above the window line so bought the EX400 extension that allows for it to get down to normal height. That’s the only negative that I see about the 140 Pro. Also bought a sock to cover while towing. Nice upgrade to the stock mirror.
Baller Lieutenant Dan Posted September 27, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 27, 2018 @GregHind I skied with a friend this morning who has the PTM 140. At 22 off I didn’t notice the skier being significantly smaller at the ball. The same thing for the Cipa Extreme.
Baller harddock Posted September 28, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 28, 2018 I have the factory one that came with Team 200 . Added the extension and two set screws or waves would cause it to flop down
