Baller radarboy32 Posted September 8, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2018 I am a very young skier, not even at 15 off, looking to improve my skiing. Sadly, I don't have video, but can somebody please tell me some common mistakes of beginner skiers? Going skiing Sunday, maybe I'll have video then. Help please! Baller radarboy32 Posted September 8, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted September 8, 2018 I apologize-I meant to post this under Slalom. I am a slalom skier.
Baller Andre Posted September 8, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2018 I would recommend watching all the videos you can find from Terry Winter and Seth Stisher. Wake crossing position is the more important thing in slalom skiing in my opinion... Good luck and welcome to BOS! My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance! Baller Chef23 Posted September 8, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2018 There is an article on basic skiing position and being properly stacked on the skimsomewhere on this site but I couldn’t find it. I would start there. Maybe @Horton knows where it is. There is a lot of good stuff in the tech section https://www.ballofspray.com/home-page/tech but some of it is more advanced. Baller_ MISkier Posted September 8, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted September 8, 2018 Some have already alluded to the common mistakes that new skiers make. Possibly the biggest one is fearing the wake so that you bend at the waist, drop your hips and butt behind you, and cross the wake on a flat ski. I’ve seen so many that can pull on edge once they are on one side of the wake or the other, but completely abandon it and almost crouch to cross the wake. Get rid of that fear and attack that wake in a good position. Pull through the wake, with your arms straight, your ski on edge, leaning away from the boat, and without bending at the waist. Absorb the shock of the wake, but that doesn’t mean cross it in a sitting position. The Seth Stisher mini whip videos on YouTube are a good place to start. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller eleeski Posted September 8, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2018 Slippery slalom on a trick ski really improves your basic slalom skills. Plus it's fun! You did originally post in the trick section. Eric
Baller_ lpskier Posted September 9, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted September 9, 2018 Take something positive away from ever set. If you are pissed off or frustrated with your skiing, you are looking at it the wrong way. Lpskier
Baller OldboyII Posted September 9, 2018 Baller Share Posted September 9, 2018 Find a good coach. Not the one who tells you - you are doing this element wrong. But the one who says - next pass please do this element better than now.
