Baller BlueSki Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 The Ballers might be able to settle a bet between two brothers, my kids. In trying to come up with names for a male dog, the ski-related name of Stack was tabled among others. We have a good list of names, so I don't really need suggestions but feel free to throw some out, I really just need final word on their bet of whether or not Stack is good name for a dog so the kids can move on and fight about other things. Only skiers can answer that question.
Baller Andre Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 I m surr they can find better ski related name for the dog. What breed ? My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
Baller_ MISkier Posted August 16, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted August 16, 2018 I think I heard somewhere that the animal’s name should be two syllables, since commands are typically one syllable. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller BraceMaker Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 Stack is a good name, has two hard sounds in it st ck should get the dogs attention just fine. I'm not sure its important that people understand the name. But then again until you see a dog who knows what they should be named. Meet the beast and you might want to call it butthole. Baller igkya Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 Who cares if others understand, its your (kids) dawg! But agree with MISKier on the 2 syllables for a name.
Baller jercrane Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 I kind of like "Tender" especially the irony of having your dog serve that purpose.
Baller A_B Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 Smear would be a much better name.

Baller PatM Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 Don't worry about if other understand. My dogs are Buoy and Mapple. Mapple is a hard one for people, first they want to call him Maple, second is what does that mean. They are interest when they find out where the name came from. Baller klindy Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 I like the two-syllable rule too. I also find dogs whose name ends in "y" helps too - Sammy, Mikey, Rocky, etc. To get back to waterski related names how about - Reride Radar or my favorite - Smear
Baller BlueSki Posted August 16, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 @MS, if it was a female I would campaign hard for Camille or Regina.
Baller dchristman Posted August 16, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive, but I can't imagine most women would be happy to know you named your dog after them.

Baller BlueSki Posted August 16, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 16, 2018 @DavidP, Horton in and of itself would be a good name for a dog, but I met Horton at Nationals and he is not necessarily a golden retriever, perhaps a different breed. I will let someone else that knows him better start the “What Breed is Horton” thread that will end with “I will ban all of you!”

Baller tjm Posted August 17, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 17, 2018 Stack is a good name. In the dog show world you “stack” the dog in presenting him to the judge.

mopowpow
We always thought we would name a male dog Radar. Our female dogs have had snow ski names. Greeley - our favorite run at Alta Blizzard - my favorite skis and storm
Baller sunvalleylaw Posted August 19, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 19, 2018 I like it. If you do, I say go for it. And if you really find you need two syllables, you can always add a y. As in Stack-y, or get Stack-y, which could be a new suggestion from the boat, etc.

Baller Keith_Menard Posted August 22, 2018 Baller Share Posted August 22, 2018 We are looking at a Bernese...I wanted to name it Ballast. I was very quickly shot down.
Baller BlueSki Posted August 22, 2018 Author Baller Share Posted August 22, 2018 @"Keith Menard" Bernese are very cool dogs. Because they like to lean (primarily against you and not light on the line) you might be able to come up with a name off of that trait. Lean, Reach, etc.
