Baller_ lpskier Posted April 6, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted April 6, 2018 This question is addressed to safety directors and lake owners, and the real question is “What’s in your first aid kit?” What is necessary, what is a good idea and what are the luxuries? Baller Kelvin Posted April 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 6, 2018 Here's a list that was used at Nationals a few times. Sorry about the file format.
Baller oldjeep Posted April 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 6, 2018 Quickclot is in all my first aid kits.
Baller Keith_Menard Posted April 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 6, 2018 What's in my wallet? Nothing...I went to performance ski without my wife :) (Good list above)
WaterSkier12
Before the kid got hurt, not much: but now pretty much anything u can think of—except a rib spreader and a cervical traction tong setup ;-)
Baller vtmecheng Posted April 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 6, 2018 That's a good list @Kelvin has. I agree with adding Quickclot and would add a tourniquet like this since it cost almost nothing and saves lives.
Baller BraceMaker Posted April 6, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 6, 2018 Inflatable splints are a good buy. Makes the ride to the hospital tolerable
Baller_ MISkier Posted April 7, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted April 7, 2018 These are some good suggestions. I am going to double check our inventory. One thing we do have in our kits in Michigan is an AED. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller_ lpskier Posted April 8, 2018 Author Baller_ Share Posted April 8, 2018 Thanks guys. I needed to put a safety kit together quickly and your input was very helpful. Even better, we didn’t need it once today. Lots of great skiing at LaPoint Ski Park’s April Record. Best part of the day, though, was Ty Oppenlander taking a ski ride. Absolutely awesome! Baller Andre Posted April 8, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2018 @MISkier Any precautions you should take before using an AED near water or on a wet person ? Sidenote:Pulling an inconscious skier back in the boat by yourself must not be an easy task if no spotter... My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance! Baller_ MISkier Posted April 8, 2018 Baller_ Share Posted April 8, 2018 @Andre, You can't use the AED while the person is still in the water. As with any AED use, the responders and person administering the AED must be clear of the patient while the shock is delivered. That includes making sure you are not standing in a puddle of water which is also touching the patient. There is no problem for the patient themselves to be wet, but the bystanders must not be positioned in any manner that provides conductivity to the patient. The worst slalom equipment I own is between my ears.
Baller Obrienslalom Posted April 8, 2018 Baller Share Posted April 8, 2018 After a rookie mistake backing up on a rope last season, a knife is a must.
Baller_ lpskier Posted April 9, 2018 Author Baller_ Share Posted April 9, 2018 @Andre Your Quebec ski buddies arrived today for a week of skiing at LaPoint Ski Park. Where, might I ask, are you? Come on down here and take some early season turns! Lpskier
