Baller vtmecheng Posted October 1, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 1, 2017 As my last thread suggested, I'm in the market for a new stick. I'm good with either a 2016 or newer Radar Graphite Senate or a 2017 Connelly Carbon V. Both are listed as "on sale" at online shops and I'm noticing they are showing as sold out in the more common sizes. When is the best time of the year to buy a ski? Do the 2017s start to sell out around now or can we do better around the holidays? Thanks everyone.
Baller MuskokaKy Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 @vtmecheng for what its worth im in a similar boat where i want to upgrade from my 2016 senate to the 17...sale prices have started everywhere ive seen as the 2018s are out and being used...Ill pull the trigger by halloween ( at the latest thanksgiving). I can usually find a 67 fairly easily...Review on the the 17 senate was pretty awesome and i demo's one which felt great ( especially for not having my binding set up.) Baller Orlando76 Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 Best time to buy is right after your wife messed up or when she bought something unimportant.
Baller BraceMaker Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 Immediately before your old one sells on ski-it-again. Hopefully then you have a box for shipping the old ski.
Baller thager Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 It is far easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. Buy it. Hide it. It's yours!
Baller Nando Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 We should have a poll- how many of us have bought a ski and hidden it (or its price) from our spouses? I'm guilty...
Baller Nando Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 Or a boat...
Baller UWSkier Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 Depends. Lots of times the really popular models and sizes never make it to closeout before being soldout. The waiting game can be risky in this small volume sport.
Baller vtmecheng Posted October 2, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 Too bad I'm the one usually in trouble. Lucky for me I got injured (funny to type) with an OTF on my current ski and my wife agrees I should get something more stable and predictable. It'll be my Christmas present. I'm thinking of getting the ski now since the 2018s are out and 2017s are already on clearance.
Baller swc5150 Posted October 2, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 @Nando I couldn't sneak the new boat price past my wife, but my Vapor LE was $400 ha!
Baller vtmecheng Posted October 2, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted October 2, 2017 @swc5150 We all need to shop wherever you do! My wife does all the budget tracking. So long as she gets something in kind everyone's happy.
pregom
Personally, I think a good stick is nice to have, but a good binding setup is more important to minimize (reduce?) the risk of injuries. If you can, do both!
Baller 6balls Posted October 3, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 3, 2017 I'd also like to bring up the monkey theory...@razorskier1 and @razorross3 told me about this; a monkey never releases the branch it's holding until it has the next branch in hand. The idea is when you are skiing well on a particular ski, and get a new one wanting more buoys...and it seems like a winner right away...don't sell your existing ski just yet. After a while you may be saying geez I was really hot on my old ski and I let it go...wish I had that one back.
Baller Chef23 Posted October 3, 2017 Baller Share Posted October 3, 2017 I totally agree with @6balls. A few years ago I traded a Goode Mid I set a PB on for a Nano 1 which I never got comfortable on. After trying several different skis I wound up buying another Goode Mid and was happy again. Baller vtmecheng Posted October 3, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted October 3, 2017 Thanks for the advice. I'm on a 2010 siege right now and doubt I'm going to find myself wishing for it in the course. Probably just keep it at my dad's lake house so I don't have to travel with my new one. We just free ski there anyway. Regarding the otf I had. Most of the injury was due to me stupidly having the front binding too tight. My foot couldn't get out. Never make that mistake again.
