Baller Keith_Menard Posted May 14, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2017 When you get little tear in your upholstery, what do you use to stop it from spreading?
Baller BlueSki Posted May 14, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2017 I used a repair kit from Napa Auto Parts. It worked and a more practiced hand would have done a better job, but I was the only one to notice and it stopped any spreading.
bstphen24
A product called vlp vinyl repair has worked amazingly well for me. Someone kindly cut my drivers seat with a very sharp knife while camping one year. Asked an upholstery shop what they recommended and went with it. Held up for 5 years with two kids climbing all over the boat and was still in great shape when I sold it.
Baller Wayne Posted May 14, 2017 Baller Share Posted May 14, 2017 Where is the tear? If it's in a high traffic area you should remove the upholstery to get to the back side. Then bond a patch to the back side of the tear to reinforce the area (larger patch is better). Reinstall the upholstery and then do a surface repair to hide the visual aspects of the tear. Depending on the size of the tear and where it is you may not need to reinforce it. I'd say smaller than a nickel and on a vertical surface that never gets stepped or sat on is when I would skip reinforcing it.

Baller Keith_Menard Posted June 20, 2017 Author Baller Share Posted June 20, 2017 So, I found this stuff at Wal-mart while I was waiting for the VLP to be delivered: https://goo.gl/photos/ts5cDJAbCzCeyE1n6 I am REALLY impressed. It dries clear, and seems to be flexible. Will keep you posted as the season goes.
Baller oldjeep Posted June 20, 2017 Baller Share Posted June 20, 2017 If it is anything like the permatex clear vinyl repair glue it will be clear for a while and then yellow in the sun over time.
