MuskokaKy
watched this 50 times easily. took a while to figure out what happened. first thought was fin second was fish then finally saw the rope...rough fall. nice MC though!!
klindy
That's why I always put all the lose rope in the boat behind the driver seat. Never leave it at your feet. It'll get sucked out of the boat far faster than you can get your toes out of the way.
Baller thager Posted September 8, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2017 Don't think the loop popped, I think the ropee put the slip knot on backwards. That holds for a bit then gives later. Been there done that! Ouch!
Baller rawly Posted September 8, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2017 That is why I upgraded my rope to the Masterline slip knot rope. Cannot be put on wrong. I have had people attach the loop of the end of the previous section , not the one that you are skiing. Didn't end this bad ( if that is what happened )
Baller BraceMaker Posted September 8, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2017 @thager seems right to me - popped right as he started to let up like a hair trigger - probably had a loop formed in the long line segment instead of the next loop down, when pulled the knot held against the loop, as the skier cut out and released tension that knot slipped and some amount of mainline slipped out. Almost should send the spare line back out of the slip tube to the rear, would hate to drag someone on that.
klindy
@dvskier I'm real curious why you disagree with putting the rope out of harms way. This one has me baffled.

Baller thager Posted September 8, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2017 @BraceMaker By popped I thought you meant the loop jumped off the pylon. With the new ropes many people don't bother to loop a slipknot anymore. I don't anymore because I need every inch of rope I can get!
Baller dvskier Posted September 9, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 9, 2017 @klindy must have hit disagree by mistake. I fixed it.
Baller BraceMaker Posted September 9, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 9, 2017 @thager that was my initial thought but it goes tight again, and the tag end is visible so I assume it caught again? Otherwise I'd have expected the rope to leave the boat.

Baller B_S Posted September 26, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2017 Yeah, I don't think he was doing that on purpose. Question is, why did the driver keep pulling him for so long?
Baller BraceMaker Posted September 26, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2017 Yeah - not right - however sometimes when tournaments have safety boats and since the fallen skiers usually swim in you'll see the tendency to just keep on cooking down the lake at speed. Could be boat crew saw the fall, took until after the guy bounced to say anything and the driver may have already started to "autopilot" down the lake. This is where when people talk about some sort of release for other towed sport you can see the value - but the risk of pre-release.
Baller BobF Posted September 26, 2017 Baller Share Posted September 26, 2017 I wasn't sure if this was intentional or not. Definitely not trying to squeeze any entertainment value out of a possible injury. (unless it's really, really funny :) ) There's another video out there somewhere of a skier tumble turning out of a fall and standing back up, but after a second look the one above does look like he may have been stuck on the handle. Would really like to see what happened immediately after...
