Baller cragginshred Posted September 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2016 I just replaced my 4 year old Vapor boots with the green ones (front one first). The rear one went on last week and has been a bugger to break in. Matt Rini mentioned removing the stiff inner piece and others here mentioned doing that in the new Carbitex boots too. Problem is the inner piece is stitched in at the bottom. For those who have removed it -did you cut it out? If so did you remove just the ankle portion or the foot sidewall part too? Method? Thanks, Don
Baller mbabiash Posted September 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2016 My wife's orange vapor and my carbitex boots had the stiff piece. They both come out easily from the top. Part of the plastic sticks up and you can pull it out.
Baller Bill22 Posted September 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2016 @cragginshred I have the green vapor boots. They don't have the extra support piece. Check back with Matt Rini maybe he thought you got the 2015 boots. If you search for pictures you will see what they look like.
Baller Bill22 Posted September 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 5, 2016 If your boot doesn't have the big orange shim you are good to go. Did you heat mold them? If they have tight spots heat molding will help.
Baller cragginshred Posted September 6, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted September 6, 2016 @Bill22 Thanks for the pic of the liners! Mine do not have the shim there. I have a pic at home. The boots I have may be 2014 (green ones). There is no pocket in the liners as in your pic. The boot has an extra piece on the side that is sewn in. Baller wtrskior Posted September 6, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 6, 2016 @cragginshred cut it open and pull it out.
Baller cragginshred Posted September 6, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted September 6, 2016 @wtrskior I thought of that,..it's literally a flap at the ankle sewn in at the bottom and separated from the front foot flap by a little margin. So although its thick, I could likely cut it with sheet metal shears or something. I mentioned cutting it to Matt Rini and he said 'give it time'. Baller Jordan Posted September 7, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 7, 2016 no need to butcher the 2014 boots...They will feel like butter once you heat mold the liners.
Baller cragginshred Posted September 8, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted September 8, 2016 @Jordan you are right and so was Matt Rini. Last night I skied great and they are better than ever. They are now broken in but one huge factor was Matt's suggestion to position the back boot toed OUT -which externally rotates the hip and allowed for a much better 1/3/5 When I began this thread I did not know the newer liners had the extra piece on the side. I was referring to the flap in the shell.
Baller igkya Posted September 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2016 @cragginshred which foot forward do you ski? Sorry for the high jack.
Baller ToddL Posted September 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted September 8, 2016 @cragginshred - leave those shell flaps in tact. Key to the binding functionality. Also, be careful to never let them get curled under by the liner. Always make sure they are flat and up. Once they get curled and stored or skied on like that, they tend to never stay perfectly flat again.
