Baller Ski_Dad Posted August 25, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 25, 2016 Hi Guys, my best friend lives in Ocala, FL - i haven't been down to visit for a few years so I thought about going to a school near by while I visit - is there anything good around there ? I'm an intermediate skier looking to advance.
Baller_ lpskier Posted August 25, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted August 25, 2016 Travers in Groveland is as close as you'll find. Swiss is in Clermont. Franz Oberleitner is around there somewhere as well. It's a bit of a drive from Ocala. #iskiconnelly Lpskier
Baller Orlando76 Posted August 25, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 25, 2016 Like mentioned, Travers is probably 45 minutes from the heart of Ocala.
Baller_ DW Posted August 26, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted August 26, 2016 And make sure to go to Big Daddy Don Garlits drag racing museum!
Baller mjump Posted August 26, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 26, 2016 Ocean pond ski club (lake city,fl). @MillerTime38 and I would be glad to give you a pull and coaching. I am originally from Ohio as well always willing to help. Give me a pm if we can help.
Baller Ski_Dad Posted August 26, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted August 26, 2016 Thanks Guys for your willingness to help :) Looks like Travers is the closest. Would you suggest a package that has 2 sets per day or 4 ? Would I kill my arms skiing 4x per day ? I usually ski twice when I do ski, rarely 3 if my wife is OK with it - haha
Baller_ lpskier Posted August 26, 2016 Baller_ Share Posted August 26, 2016 You have answered your own question. If you overdo it on day one the rest of your stay is worthless. Pace yourself and get the most out of your experience. #iskiconnelly Lpskier
Baller Chef23 Posted August 26, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 26, 2016 Travers is pretty flexible. I wouldn't do 4 a day every day unless you are in peak mid season ski form. Even then be sure to tape your hands. I took my son to Travers and he skied 4 a day but he 3 events. I think I skied 2 most days and 3 1 day and paid by the set. Baller harddock Posted August 28, 2016 Baller Share Posted August 28, 2016 I would agree with Mark about Travers. Even with two sets a day you will learn, better your skills. Travers will work with you. With any of these places contact them and book in advance!
Baller Ski_Dad Posted December 14, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted December 14, 2016 i apologize for the long delay. I booked my trip to Traver's for February. Excited!! My current ski is a Radar P6. They have HO Skis to use. Do you think I will be OK using something like an HO TX or should I really consider getting my ski down there ?
Baller Edbrazil Posted December 14, 2016 Baller Share Posted December 14, 2016 Posting an endorsement for Travers. Good guy from back in NH. Jack has been involved with the sport for nearly 60 years.
Baller Ski_Dad Posted December 14, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted December 14, 2016 I need to work on form. I'm not looking for a new ski for a while - I feel i need to get good enough form to actually take advantage of the one i have
Baller ScottScott Posted December 18, 2016 Baller Share Posted December 18, 2016 Did you get a Jack'd or JT package. I would specify one of those, or if there is an option for Chris (I've read he is a very good coach also, but don't see a Chris Package.)
Baller lcarnes Posted December 19, 2016 Baller Share Posted December 19, 2016 I'm a regular at Jack's and ditto the comments that they will work with you. Chris is a fabulous coach. It's 40 minutes to there from exit 352 on I-75 in Ocala.
Baller Ski_Dad Posted December 19, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted December 19, 2016 I got the explorer package. 2 sets a day M-F. I think I get whoever they have available.
