Baller Lars Posted March 9, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 9, 2016 I'm buying a new prop for my 2004 prostar 197 (yes yes, let the PS197 hate flow...) And I've decided on an OJ prop since I can get my old one rebuilt for free. I contacted OJ and told them it is used primarily in the course they suggested one of these three: 12.5 x 12, 4-blade 12.5 x 13 4-blade 13 x 11.5 3-blade I know I can try out the props, but looking for anyone with direct experience with any of these props. Was leaning towards the 3 blade. Engine is MCX and it has the 1:1 transmission.
Baller Razorskier1 Posted March 9, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 9, 2016 Ask Matt out at Midwest MC. I liked the 3-blade on my 197 better than the 4-blade, but I had the Powerslot tranny so it isn't perfectly comparable.
Baller Rmengdahl Posted March 9, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 9, 2016 I spoke with Eric about this briefly too. He recommended the #709 that came on the new prostars. My boat has a powerslot variant as well though. @Razorskier1 which three blade did you use?
Baller Razorskier1 Posted March 10, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 10, 2016 I don't recall the size/cup, but it was an Acme, not an OJ. The guys at Acme recommended the size. The 3 blade was both quicker out of the hole and better with top speed, and also moderated the rudder pressure some.
Baller bbruzzese Posted March 10, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 10, 2016 Won't get any hate here...loved our PS197...we might have got lucky but ours had nice wakes and drove like a Ferrari...stock prop.
Baller Rmengdahl Posted March 12, 2016 Baller Share Posted March 12, 2016 Just noticed an OJ #710 for sale on SIA that came off a 14' prostar. Seems reasonably priced.
