Baller steve77 Posted February 2, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 2, 2016 We used one for awhile this past season and I liked it. I thought I wasn't going to but I was surprised by how comfortable it was
mikegile
Looks alot like the old US gear handle. I liked the feel and felt like I never got split fingered by the rope
Baller The_MS Posted February 2, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 2, 2016 I just got my new handles from US Gear. AWESOME. They are lighter, my head doesn't fit through and I got 4, 300 plus set years out of my last one.
Baller lakeaustinskier Posted February 2, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 2, 2016 My ski partner has that handle and he loves it. I've tried it and hated it. It all comes down to how you grip your handle. When I ski I have one of my thumbs on top of the handle cap. With the Masterline Radius Ergo handle my grip would sometimes slide too far up the handle for my comfort. Nothing wrong with the handle - it just didn't suit my style. Baller dchristman Posted February 2, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 2, 2016 @ms how long did it take you to get those new handles after you ordered them?
Baller dchristman Posted February 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 As @gregy mentioned when you last asked ... the Masterline doesn't have the flotation of the US Gear handles. To make it more clear, they sink. Last summer at a tournament they threw my handle from the boat and didn't reach the dock. It started going down fast... my buddy Mason jumped in to rescue it without thinking about the phone in his pocket. I thank him for his sacrifice :)
Baller gregy Posted February 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 @ms is was that recently that you got those from US Gear? How long did it take to get them? @dchristman been thinking of ways to put some flotation on the Masterline. My US Gear handle will have to be retired by Summer. Administrators Horton Posted February 3, 2016 Administrators Share Posted February 3, 2016 If anyone cares MasterLine and InTow support BallOfSpray. US Gear thoroughly burned a bridge with me and many Ballers a few years ago. I wish Randy well but i can not recommend doing business with him. Baller dchristman Posted February 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 @gregy it would be nice to add some flotation. I was thinking of taking a couple of thin foam floats off an old trick harness, slicing them lengthwise, and then gluing them back together over the exposed rope in the 'Y'. I hate to make it more bulky though - it's already bigger and heavier than a 12" US Gear. The only time it's an issue is during handle swapping at a tournament... Baller Bill22 Posted February 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 @dchristman remember when all handles floated?
Baller dave2ball Posted February 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 the new ergo handle is the bomb. I have tried both us gear and Masterline and Masterline is better better quality and stands behind there product.
Administrators Horton Posted February 3, 2016 Administrators Share Posted February 3, 2016 MasterLine quality is second to none. I have one of the early prototypes of the ergo handle. I need to get my hands on the finished product. I'm also vaguely aware of some of the R&D and custom stuff that happens at MasterLine. My impression is Russell really knows what he's doing and always working towards cutting edge product. Baller dchristman Posted February 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 @Bill22 I gotta say "no"... I guess I'm not that old. only 1 out of 5 of these old handles floated. It is the oldest one, though.
Baller dchristman Posted February 3, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 @gregy I was going to try one of these foam rope floats, but my float test says one isn't enough :/
Baller disland Posted February 3, 2016 Author Baller Share Posted February 3, 2016 @horton I just ordered one. I will do a review but wont be skiing much until April. Going on a surf trip in March

Baller skibug Posted February 4, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2016 The only issue I have with the ML handle versus the US Gear Handle is that ML doesn't offer different diameters. I like a smaller diameter than ML offers so I am forced to go with US Gear. maybe ML will start to offer a few diameter choices.
Baller A_B Posted February 4, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2016 Really liked my Ergo handle. I know it is just a feel difference, but I thought the Ergo stayed stickier all season vs. the USG. I don't ski that much, but when I do, there is a fair amount of resistance on the handle, so stickiness is important to me. Some guys are fine with handles that I think are dry or slippery, just my preference...
Baller skihacker Posted February 4, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2016 ml offers 8 diameters, from .888 up to 1.
Baller gregy Posted February 4, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2016 On the website it only list 1.0" as the handle diameter. If a you really wanted something different might be worth contacting ML and ask for a custom dia.
Baller Chef23 Posted February 4, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 4, 2016 I would be shocked if ML wouldn't make a custom diameter but maybe they have limited sizes in the Ergo blanks.
Baller rockdog Posted February 5, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 5, 2016 I've had mine for 12 months and really like it. Had a problem with the first one bending after one set, but they stood behind it and replaced it, albeit after a long wait. No probs since. I find the 13" too big and next time will get a 12. With the curved end caps it makes the handle feel bigger. Great rubber too.
Baller skibug Posted February 6, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 6, 2016 @skihacker @Chef23 prepare to be shocked - I inquired with Randy last summer, in person when I was in Orlando, and they did not plan on offering different diameters. The website used to, and may still, allow you to choose the diameter size for the Ergo but that was a carry over from the straight handle ordering pages. They only offer the 1" diameter; even if you choose a different diameter on the ordering page.....I know because I ordered one with a smaller diameter and got the standard 1" diameter. Baller The_MS Posted February 6, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 6, 2016 I had USG make mine at .
Baller dchristman Posted February 6, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 6, 2016 @rockdog does your 13" measure 13.5"? My (presumably) 12" measures 12.5" ... Definitely feels bigger than my old us gear 12". Both are 1" diameter.
Baller rockdog Posted February 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 8, 2016 @dchristman mine is spot on 13". It really is too big and wished I got the 12. Also certain there's still only one diameter - 1", for those wondering.
Baller Edbrazil Posted February 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 8, 2016 @dchristman Vs. your posting in Feb. 3rd: which one of the 5 handles floated? Would it be the Glad Handle on the right? In the early 1970's, I made the Ultra Handle, which was golf grips over an Aluminum holllow foam-filled core. It DID float, and also passed the AWSA load specification. See Rule: 8.04d. Worded differently now, but it used to be the handle had to take a load of 700# without breaking. The Ultra Handle was 6061T6 Aluminum, 13/16 OD and 1/8 wall. Think that it was the first "golf grip" handle. Made about 350 of them. Sold for $25. An example of one is at the Hall of Fame Museum.
Baller ALPJr Posted February 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 8, 2016 @Edbrazil Old friends of mine John and Ben Pimpinelli swore by the Ultra - we were south Jersey free skiers back then.
Baller dchristman Posted February 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 8, 2016 @Edbrazil Yes, the red glad handle on the right is floating. I seem to recall all the crappy "recreational" handles floating back in the 70's, but the tournament handles did not.
Baller ALPJr Posted February 8, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 8, 2016 Two of my ski buddies are very happy with the In-tow radius handles with the cross bar.
Baller dchristman Posted February 21, 2016 Baller Share Posted February 21, 2016 With the acquisition of Eagle, this seems like an accessory that @mlusa ought to make. Some nice light-weight foam with a tough water repellent cover. It could be made to match your Eagle vest. It's not an arm guard - It's a handle float ;)
