Reflex front boot with radar vapour rear boot

Anyone used this set up or know of some one who is, I need a new front boot and am curious as to the safety and performance of running a Reflex font boot with the vapour rear. I'm currently running double vapours, my thoughts would be to graduate to a r style or kicker over time.

A friend is using this setup, he likes it but safety might be an issue.

Personally I believe that is not very safe to ski in a reflex-rubber combination, there is a very high chance that the Reflex would release and the rubber would not. Some skiers use willie's rear boot but with loosen overlays.

If you are going to change to Reflex front why not change the rear too and try the R style or RTP, they both work great with Reflex front.

I used the RELEX front Vapor rear for more than a year. This year I switched to double REFLEX and love it! I am 5'4" and most thought that my feet would be too far apart, not the case. I was able to get closer than with the VAPOR.

@skialex Actually, thats not the case at all. Almost always, when you trip the reflex release you're heel has already lifted enough that you're starting to come out of the rear. The only exception is those buoy strikes where the ski lands flat. But then again, no binding is totally safe there.

Me too. I have the DIN set to about 4 and i don't do any of the lacing up on the rear boot. Releases a treat. Notice how Whitneys' rear boot has neen modified slightly....the front/tip of the outer boot has been removed - i guess to aid the releasing mechanism...

I have made my own modifications - documented elsewhere (1,5 deg cant/ wedge under the binding plate). But most recently the addition of an internal heel lift, forward lean wedge and a power strap - just like on a snow ski boot..

Because the reflex binding plate is twice as thick as the rear plate, and it's raised up due to the canting wedge undernieth, i have raised the rear binding plate back up to the same level as the front.

I was finding that my flexing movements were causing my hips to drop back....

@gavski have you skied on that setup yet. I tried the Supershell on my 2015 Vapor coming off from a black top reflex. I had to loosen the rear strap due to excessive tip pressure. With that powerstrap it would be even more noticable I'm thinking. Ski was bitting out of the turns and doing something weird coming of the wakes. Lowered the strap on hole and it made it more controllable. Still not sold on the supershell, they have a little too much volume for my skinny narrow foot.

Your issues will be all down to alignment...the supershell is a taller boot, so misalignment problems will be exaggerated.

This is the first hard shell boot that i have skied on - double strada boot previously. Even before i took a set, I spent a short time 'feeling' my way into correct alignment and then made a wedge to go under the plate. Right off the dock, the set up felt amazing.

Out of curiosity, I spoke to Harald Harb and asked him what my ski boot numbers were...Left foot was 1.5deg and right foot 0deg. I am LFF and i was amazed how close i got by feel - 1.1deg...so i upped it to 1.5 deg and bingo...

however, it was noticed that hips were now dropping back, particularly during the gate pull out - nothing i could do seemed to cure it...Back to Harald Harb and he pointed out a similar issue to my snow skiing, which was cured with a 3mm heel lift to both boots. So, an internal heel lift added, power strap (his recommendation) and levelling out the the front and rear bindings. Already i am standing taller and my flex pattern has improved.

No issues with too much tip pressure. My ski set up as per John Horton's final recommendation..

Had my first set on this set up last night, went better than I expected, I feel so much more connected to my ski, and the water, managed to get my boots to the right spacing, and they look like they should release, I did have to make a specific screw washer for the rear of front boot though to get the right measurement from the rear of the ski.fdfmevd4f4tf.jpeg
