Baller susanm1ski Posted July 18, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2015 I'm looking to work at a ski school next summer, but I am not a great skier (one day...). I have lots of experience with kids and some retail experience, but that's about all I have to offer in the way of ski schools. I'm also not afraid to work hard, I will do anything to have a place to train for the summer! I'm currently trying to learn how to drive the course as well but that has been slow going as I do not have a ski course (I ski with friends that live on a ski lake). Anyone have any advice or ski school recommendations?
Baller nam1975 Posted July 18, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 18, 2015 Trophy Lakes always has college peeps in the summer, i think Matt is still there? Seth Stisher might need someone, yes I like Charleston, SC. Your inquiry here will help.
Baller Andre Posted July 19, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2015 Coble is not too far from you. April always have some young foreigners and american coaches and drivers. Good luck and i'm sure you'll find something waterski related for next summer! My ski finish in 16.95 but my ass is out of tolerance!
Baller Chef23 Posted July 19, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2015 Reach out to April Coble. There are always a variety of ability of skiers working at Coble's there is plenty of work to go around there.
Baller Skihack Posted July 19, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2015 Just so you know, I don't think you will be paid a paycheck per se. But, your lodging, food, and skiing should be free. The day goes by really fast so I don't think it is much time left to really train.
Baller_ Bruce_Butterfield Posted July 19, 2015 Baller_ Share Posted July 19, 2015 Keep in mind that ski schools don't just need coaches and drivers. They need cooks, people to clean, get groceries, mow grass, wipe down and wax boats. Showing initiative and willingness to do (almost) anything goes a long way to getting your foot in the door. Bennetts is a good place to look and not too far away. If it was easy, they would call it Wakeboarding
Baller LeonL Posted July 19, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2015 In fact a lot of ski school coaches get their start cooking, etc., then driving before ever giving ski advice. Lots of work to be done around those places, like @Bruce_Butterfield said.
Baller Rpc29 Posted July 19, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 19, 2015 Coble's, if you call April and tell her you are willing to work in the kitchen and cut grass, she's always looking for more hard workers.
Baller susanm1ski Posted July 19, 2015 Author Baller Share Posted July 19, 2015 Thanks for the advice, everyone! I am totally fine with cooking, cleaning, and other sorts of maintenance work as long as I get to ski
Baller Broussard Posted July 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 21, 2015 Try Bennetts over in Zachary, LA. He usually is looking for someone to heat up and serve dinner as well as helping with paperwork in the spring. .
Baller rab Posted July 21, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 21, 2015 If you are unable to find a slalom specific school to work at another option is working at a summer camp with a ski program. Even though many of them do not have courses it would be a good way to get something on your resume to help in landing a ski school job. Both @Beans and I have worked at Camp Walden and have had a really good experience.
