Baller drewski32 Posted July 17, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 17, 2015 Does anyone know what the requirement is to obtain an open men slalom rating? 2@39 in a record tournament or something like that?
Baller MattP Posted July 17, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 17, 2015 The score fluxuates based on level 9 raiting or the top 7% of skiers or 110 buoys at the moment. You need at least 2 scores from 2 seperate events on seperate days and lakes or 3 with no penalty. The raiting is good for 12 months. @klindy did I get that right? Baller santangelo Posted July 17, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 17, 2015 Record tournament not required either. Elite status for any Open or Masters rating can be obtained at Class C or above tournaments per rules as @MattP described above.
Baller LeonL Posted July 17, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 17, 2015 Separate lakes? You mean if you get the score at a particular lake and two month later you get it at that same lake it's no good? I haven't noticed that rule nuance!
Baller santangelo Posted July 17, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 17, 2015 @MattP and @LeonL I believe the multiple lakes rule is for the Worlds ranking list and not specific to the AWSA Elite rankings.
Baller MattP Posted July 17, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 17, 2015 @santangeo that sounds right. I may have been combining the two in my head.
Elite Skier ColeGiacopuzzi Posted July 17, 2015 Elite Skier Share Posted July 17, 2015 @drewski32 I actually just got the email to notify me that I had received my open men rating a couple weeks ago, a very cool feeling. As @MattP said it fluctuates, but usually it is around 2 scores of 2 @ 39.5 off. Radar Skis Follow Instagram
Baller eleeski Posted July 17, 2015 Baller Share Posted July 17, 2015 Note that the system can be totally flawed. It's great with a large enough pool of skiers to generate realistic and consistent performance based cutoffs. But with too small a group, the performances of one skier in one tournament can swing the number wildly. And our sport is shrinking so much that these anomalies are happening now. Consider the talented W3 jumper who earned an Open jump rating. But there are so few 35+ jumpers and those who still jump over 35 are unusually skilled (normal skiers don't learn jumping when older so there is not a normal distribution) that this skier does not have a Masters Women rating. Really? Unfortunately, yes. (It does create conflicts here because her overall picture doesn't work out.) With the sport's hostility to anything other than slalom, we have pushed tricks and jump to the fringes. But slalom participation is carried the same direction. The answer? Go trick. Go jump. Do it in tournaments. Make overall friendly rules at your lakes. Make overall friendly AWSA rules. Bring back the old MC Prostar as a legal boat. Encourage your kids and beginner friends to trick and jump as well as slalom. If the sport grows, we will have a big enough pool to make the rating selections work. Then go work on your performance to qualify. Eric
