Baller skibrain Posted October 18, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2018 My buddy Jim always tows with his Buick. The 7.4L tows great, and it always makes me smile to see him show up with the top down on drysuit days. :)
Baller UWSkier Posted October 18, 2018 Baller Share Posted October 18, 2018 @skibrain Your pal Jim looks like a guy who really takes care of his stuff. That '02 Response is as clean as his Buick!

Baller_ Jody_Seal Posted December 6, 2019 Baller_ Share Posted December 6, 2019 Just traded my Silverado 2500 for this 2500 burb with a 8.1. Tow rig!
Baller 2Valve Posted December 6, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 6, 2019 still towing with my old Silverado. 150,000 on the 5.3. Zero issues except for a brake line that rusted through this summer. Best vehicle I've ever owned.
Baller WiscoSkier Posted December 6, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 6, 2019 @Jody_Seal I use a 2500 avalanche with the 8.1l it has incredible towing ability and incredibly low fuel economy!
Baller BrennanKMN Posted December 6, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 6, 2019 @Jody_Seal You need to take that to Eric at Duraburb and get a Duramax put in it. He's right near Orlando. Does some amazing builds that are almost 100% OEM. https://www.facebook.com/duraburbinc/
Baller WiscoSkier Posted December 6, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 6, 2019 @BrennanKMN any idea what the cost of a swap is? The 8.1 made comparable torque and horsepower to the same vintage duramax. Would be a cool option if the 8.1 had a major problem. The 8.1 other then minor oil consumption are pretty reliable motors. The transmission on the other hand is So/so in the avalanche/suburban.
Baller phntmski Posted December 7, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 7, 2019 It’s a little undersized but fortunately it only pulls two trips; in the spring to the lake, with covered dock and lift, and in early winter home to the garage.
Baller Orlando76 Posted December 7, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 7, 2019 You guys make way too much money. Putting $15k into a vehicle worth less to gain 4mpg at an extra 20cents per gallon plus more maintenance and more costly repairs down the road?! And too boot you have to touch a nasty greasy fuel pump which takes 20 minutes of scrubbing to get the diesel off your hands! That truck will turn 350k miles easy before Jody gets tired of fixing all the little crap that’s designed to fail then he’ll move on.
Baller Orlando76 Posted December 7, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 7, 2019 @phntmski that’s perfect for a skiboat. Tacos have got big cojenes. My dream vehicle is a first generation Tacoma. Until then it’s my ‘18 Tundra TRD Sport.
Baller phntmski Posted December 7, 2019 Baller Share Posted December 7, 2019 @Orlando76 , I’ll trade :) JK. I do love my Tacoma. It does have power and oversized brakes to handle the job but it’s a little light in weight. I’m very thankful for good trailer brakes!

Baller JordanOz Posted October 14, 2022 Baller Share Posted October 14, 2022 @chrislandy bugger, that’s no good. I have heard of that happening. I may well get a new EGR cooler at 100k km as a precaution.
