Baller davemac Posted July 27, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 27, 2014 Just curious as to whether there are any significant changes between the few model years of the TXi ?? I've got two unsolicited people inquiring to buy my boat (03 Rlxi 550hrs)... even though its not for sale. I probably won't do anything, but if I do, I need something to balance skiing and family time/cruising on lake. Thanks.
Baller bbruzzese Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 Switch to PCM for '

Baller bbruzzese Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 Just picked up my 2015...new motor/tranny is awesome. So quiet and smooth!
Baller MattP Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 I have driven and skied behind the PCM Malibu. It is a sweet 6.0 they have coming out
Baller jhughes Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 "Wow" regarding switch to PCM, that's amazing. Wonder if they are going with the RH prop and PP trans or are they doing 1:1? As for changes in the model years, we get a brand new one every year and they've been 100% identical as far as I can tell.
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 Boat tests aren't until Fall.
Baller MattP Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 The motors don't need to be approved I think. Only the hulls and props.
Baller mlange Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 Boat, engine and prop are all part of the table on the approved list. http://www.usawaterski.org/pages/TournKit/AWSA/Chief%20Driver/ApprovedTournamentTowboats.pdf
Baller MattP Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 I stand corrected. Thanks for the list @mlange I would assume there is an exception for the boats use.
Baller_ DW Posted July 28, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted July 28, 2014 @davemac: I would certainly post on TheMalibuCrew website for additional feedback. Don't forget that Malibu has a relationship with GM and produces a Corvette boat on occasion thus keeping a link via GM engines is probably important particularly with Indmar going the Ford engine route. Baller bbruzzese Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 No strainers, no gear reduction and still back up drivers side.

Baller jstaab3 Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 it was my understanding that its not pcm? Pleasure craft engine group, is what will be in the TXI for next year, indmar will still do all the v drives and wakeboard boats
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 28, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 28, 2014 @jstaab3 Pleasurecraft Engine Group is the parent company for PCM and Crusader.

Baller Chad_Scott Posted July 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 29, 2014 It will be the crusader in the TXI
kstateskier
The crusader is a GM block... I wonder why Malibu is making the switch for the same (similar) block?
Baller ForrestGump Posted July 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 29, 2014 Crusader is just another brand name under the umbrella. While they originally built open water inboard pleasure boat engines, a few years back they aligned some of their engines to use common parts to the PCM variant. inland
Looks like a PCM to me in this picture. http://www.skierspier.com/default.asp?page=xNewInventoryDetail&id=778023&p=1&s=Year&d=D
Baller mlange Posted July 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 29, 2014 I'm not seeing a whole lot of changes. The outward ones I see include... 1. Engine - Ok, this is a big one. :) 2. More cup holders up front. The CFO would like the cup holders up by the pylon. She misses them from the '04 RLXi. 3. Cup holder move in back. I'm guessing the engine takes up a bit more space and they couldn't fit the cup holders into the engine cover??? 4. Slight graphics change. 5. Looks like a different bow light. 6. New steering wheel. 7. Not sure what that knob is below the MTC. Perhaps just a subwoofer control?
Baller Chef23 Posted July 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 29, 2014 The big difference to me inn the boats is the seating position. It seems like you sit up higher in the 2014 TXI than you did in the 2012.
inland
@mlange I think that the engine cover configuration had to change due to the PCM layout. I can't understand why else they would put them on the floor like that. I like the new steering wheel much better than the 12-14. I think you're right on the knob...subwoofer control. kstateskier
I like the cup holders on the pylon but would surely spill something there. Don't like the cup holders on the floor in the back, its begging someone to step on something in there and crush a beer.

Baller oldjeep Posted July 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 29, 2014 @mlange 3. They finally figured out that nobody really wanted drink warmers in a boat.
PatRe
@mlange Did they change the steering wheel such that it has more than one connection point? And did they change the shifter? We have a '14 where the little black plastic cap keeps ejecting if not held in place.
Baller mlange Posted July 29, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 29, 2014 No clue. I was just pulling my list off of looking at the pictures. I have a '12 so I was curious.
