Baller ToddL Posted July 8, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 8, 2014 So, dang... Shipping costs are very expensive if you are just an average person without any corp discount. What solutions/best options have people uncovered for reducing shipping costs for slalom skis? Any couriers to absolutely avoid / or ones you really trust? I bough a ski a few years ago and it was "shipped" via Greyhound bus. That was a new one to me. What else do you guys recommend?
oldjeep
USPS or UPS is fine - about $25 for the last one I shipped. Key is to make sure you make the box as small as possible so that you don't start hitting size limits and dimensional weight. With UPS/USPS you always save money by creating/paying for your shipment online and then dropping off the package with the postage already on it. Baller_ Wish Posted July 8, 2014 Baller_ Share Posted July 8, 2014 Have shipped all over the country and always use the US Pastal Service. It's the cheapest. If its a blank ski, ive turned a rectangle/square tube box into a triangle tube box making it considerably stronger and in some cases cheaper to ship. Baller ToddL Posted July 8, 2014 Author Baller Share Posted July 8, 2014 With trick skis, is it cheaper to ship the binding separate in its own box and the ski blank? I guess the same question for slaloms, too.
Baller Chef23 Posted July 8, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 8, 2014 Any ideas on where to come up with a box? I don't have any ski shops around.

Baller gregy Posted July 8, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 8, 2014 Last one I shipped I used two boxes and taped them together.
Baller disland Posted July 8, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 8, 2014 I have found FedEx ground cheaper than UPS for a slalom box. Never tried USPS
Baller Jordan Posted July 8, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 8, 2014 I just had two skis shipped from the US to Canada...One from Houston and one from Minnesota. Both for around $40...took about a week. Cheapest choice by far for international shipping.

Baller SkiJay Posted July 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 9, 2014 Lots of skis headed for Canada now that the six weeks of summer have started!
Baller dbski Posted July 9, 2014 Baller Share Posted July 9, 2014 I build a wood box when I ship my decorative skis. I use 1/8" plywood for the top and bottom and 1/2" pine for the sides, cost about $5 for materials. I nail the pine and the bottom and use screws to secure the top. I wrap the edges with shipping tape. It is barely heavier than cardboard and provides a lot more protection for the ski. I use USPS and the cost is around $25 in the US.
